Am in Seremban. Am thinking of getting a Syrian hammie for my 7 yo but one BIG factor that is holding us back is that we often go on holiday - anywhere from 4 days to nearly 2.5 weeks. Don't know how the hammie will cope while we are away.

ohh... as long as give him tons of food...  they for sure survive...  but need to maintain the bedding once return from vac.., most important is water, thy drink a lot.. if gt relatives, much better.. maybe can leave at relative house if vac over 1week. just help give food and change water.  i often leave my hammy for 1week, syrian as well.. but too bad. these escape master always escape from his cage    owez make me panic sometimes..  so make sure the cage door owez seal properly..

u probably need this type of water bottle. enuf to sustain for 1 week

LOL...ya...but I found a pet boarder nearby so hopefully when the time comes, should be okay.

I just *managed* to stroke his head semalam and he is now sort of okay with being outside while I'm changing his food bowl. Woke up this morning and he was sleeping on his hoard of food.

I also find his cage a bit lacking in terms of space so I created a platform using some blocks from Daiso and lollipop sticks. Ignore the pink accessories la - it's my daughter's doing. LOL.



I still find the space somewhat lacking coz I would like to add in some toys. Have been looking at Zoo Zone 2 (cheapest so far is RM145 excluding postage) but that means getting a new wheel and what do I do with this cage and wheel? Haiya.

well.. the bigger the space, its good actually.. but.. its kinda wasted if u buy new zoo zone 2    if can modified and have extension like in the pic below.. probably... possible? 

Ya...I wouldn't know what to do with another cage if I got the zoo zone. Hm...modify and extend? Wah, kena cut the bars leh. I might build some mazes/tunnels with toilet roll - got a lot of those.

I think they are aggressive to me because I seldom play with them la, mostly when I put my hands in the cage it's to clean it n refill food

My current bedding has baking soda - although the bag says it's okay for hammies, I'm not quite sure.

I might get Critter Care bedding (since I work near IPC so can pop in to look during lunch time) and maybe mix with wood pellets. Are wood pellets okay for hamsters?

Ya, I too think soft bedding is better.

It says the baking soda is for odour control. I don't smell anything but then again, I'm not a hamster so dunno la.

See la...maybe besok can find something at Pet Safari that doesn't have baking soda. Am eyeing paper-based bedding.

Hm...how do you know it's trained to go to the potty? There is a potty in the cage and Jasper uses it but I cannot tell oso. LOL.

master of escape.. 4 days leave home.. they manage to escape from the cage    make me heart attack after return from bzness trip

Ooooooo...excitement! Jasper took a nibble at my finger, thinking it's food. Later he took a small piece of capsicum from my hand...but he's still shy coz kena feed him from his hiding spot (but he's also kaypoh - wanna see what's going on).
