depends on the processor socket....must matching with the motherboard socket...what is your current processor?

Core2Duo/Quad use 775 socket , the core i3/i5 uses 1156 socket , the i7 uses the 1366.The second generation of i3/i5/i7 are 1155.

Check your current Mobo. Even if it say it is 775 doesn't mean that it will support the latest 775 CPU. Without a bios update your mobo won't recognise anything 2-3 yrs younger than it.

That's why I went to great effort to hunt down the last quad core that my current Mobo can support.

Use CPU-Z can check your mobo chipset and cpu model.

nowdays mobo isnt that expensive already...rm250-300 can get a 1155 mobo already that supports the latest gen intel processors....or u could go for amd...a little cheaper

& of course i3 is better coz its a newer gen processor...improved performance & more power efficient...but not sure if its good enough for battlefield 3 la (64 players )...better wait for them to release the specs....

if i were u i would wait....wait for the beta...test it....if can even play at the most minimum settings ok. dont upgrade first.

upgrade next year...because Q1 2012 ivy bridge will come out (if no delay)....ivy bridge is a whole new level processor...its said to have around 30-40% performance increase but more power efficient...dont really remember what the percentage was for power...50% less i think

same goes for graphic card....nvidia is going to release their new kepler gpu which is said to smoke the current Fermi gpus

and i just saw the recently release MW3 multiplayer trailer...... OMG that one sure looks super DULL!
