I guess there is no right or wrong answer. It's more like a personal experience.
I am not sure whether it is the right way to collect the sample.
Just take it with a pinch of salt.
ATI
nVidia
laugh.gif The link is funny. Yup, I am agree too, the argument on which driver is better is subject to personal experience and preference. I have no flickering problem so far. I update my driver every month.

PS: just saw your post, may be i m not aware of the flickering if it exist.

@J.A.Robert: I called up the 1-800 number the day it was launched! Still have not get my notebook! Thanks for you offer anyway...

this vostro v131 looks like a solid business laptop.. now that my 4820tg is currently on repair.. feel so tempting to replace it with this vostro.
I know maybe some will said it is a downgrade, but I prefer a business laptop rather than normal consumer laptop. The advantages of v131 over 4820tg are matte screen, better keyboard, smaller (i like 13.3 size), lighter, thin(not sure which is thinner), not sure what else.
But the processor currently offered is up to i3 only? I prefer it comes with i5 at least
*
What happen to you 4820tg? I am currently using 3820tg, still strong and nothing wrong with it.

It's thinner than my 3820tg. It should be much thinner than 4820tg. According to spec: Height: 30.40 mm

V131 is 21.00 mm.

Other advantage including USB3.0 and e-Sata. Both allow you to use external HDD at 10 times (theoretically) faster. With this option, it is now possible to install a small SSD (cheaper) for OS and application, then keep all movies, VMware, etc in an external HDD. You can access the external HDD at full speed.

V131 has faster HDD (7200 RPM), 2 hours more battery life with wifi, Sandy Bridge CPU and there is also a finger print reader... but i dont use them... the Webcam is a HD webcam, much better than most web cam.

The difference between i3 and i5 in most daily computing are not noticeable; even in running a few VMware and gaming. But i3 should run cooler.

But since you already have 4820tg, I recommend you keep it. V131 is no match when it comes to gaming. The 5650 / 6550 GPU in 4820tg will make V131 cry. cry.gif

my hard disk failing.. S.M.A.R.T reporting hdd going to fail.. lucky I have few months before my warranty period over.
I have few other complaints like lid not closing properly and noisy fan even when not gaming, keyboard trapped so many dust and it flexes.
I have desktop already for gaming, and I don't like gaming in laptop coz the fan will kick in, laptop feel hotter and I feel like my laptop under stress  tongue.gif
I use my laptop mainly for java programming, that's why I require to have i5 processor, and the portability of the laptop means I can do programming more on the go. u have explained more advantages v131 have compared to 4820tg. but then when it come to my senses, maybe I should just keep the acer. dunno  rclxub.gif
*
HDD failure! I hope you managed to save your data.

Desktop is much prefer if playing game. I play game mostly when traveling, so a portable and gaming notebook is preferred.

I list down all advantages of V131 as you have requested for it! If you dont have 4820tg, make sense to get V131. But since you already have 4820tg, make sense to keep it. Unless $ is not an issue. smile.gif

Even with Eclipse+JWS+JBOSS+everything jav-else running, I doubt you will see the differences in i3 and i5. smile.gif

Who lost money? Steve Jobs resigned as CEO.

When he come back to Apple, he wanted to prove that those who fired him were wrong. He did it. notworthy.gif

Dont know the apm and aam setting of my HDD, but i know its WD. What you want to do with the APM?

hmmm, any netbooks worth to get nowadays??

I wanna get one for Uni use but don't wanna waste so much money on it since my laptop is just 1 year++ only...

Looking at 1015B but C-50 seems not powerful enough...

I like the EOL'ed AO522 but the only downside is the 3-cell battery...

Hp-dm1z seems out of my budget... For that price, I'd rather top up a bit more and get x121e in UK which is much mroe powerful..
*
I was considering netbook previously, but finally decided to go for a full SB in V131. I really think 1.5ghz atom / fusion are not fast enough for running Visual Studio, VMware, etc. My current CPU is i5-460m, 3dmark06 = 3k, e-350 = 1k. SuperPI (16) for i5 = 16, e-350 = 51.

So, the e-350 is like 1/3 of the speed of i5-460m, that could make me go crazy...

*warning* those are simply estimation. really dont know how it feel when using e-350, may be it's not that bad for normal browsing...

I have never used an atom or c-50.. Is it really that slow? I just need it to jot down lecture notes or view lecture slides.. I know the resolution would be a downside but just have to cope with it since it's cheap.. Rm799 is really worth it cause any normal netbooks in Uk are at least rm1000 Even after converted..
*
Look like a netbook might meet your requirement. In that case how about a tablet? Hehe

You mean this article ?

"The V131 comes with up to a 256GB SSD or 750GB hard disk drive."
Means need customizations.

Quick review:

-Flashy red
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

- Not as thin I expected! Due to the 6 cell battery. Yet, still thinner than my 3820tg.
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

- The screen is better than I expected considering the low 180 nit brightness.

- Keyboard is comfy but the key feel like smaller...

Both screen in max brightness when you took the picture ?
Hinge? Wobbles ?
*
Yes, both at Max brightness. It certainly does not look dull huh?

The hinge is a little easier to close and open then the 3820tg. It does shake (front and back) more if I 'poke' the screen. May be because of that, it does feel like a little loose. Contrary to 3820tg which open and close screen feel a little more tight.

Now updating and downloading prime85 + furmark

ya, i think the viewing angle also not really the best for 3820tg... i'll take another snapshot shortly. but so far, the screen of V131 is really not dull.
