I am looking to buy a pair of "value for money" bookshelf speakers, maybe 2 ways.
Although I know RM1k is a bit less, I want to know what your guys would recommend with that amount. If possible, please provide the companies selling the speakers.

FYI, I a am mostly into classical, classic rock (pink floyd, bad company) and 20% movie.

Have a good weekend.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I listed the recommend speakers below and I would also like to see their audio quality comparison and their aesthetics characteristic.
I would go to WWW and put down their detail information when I am free tonight.
Thanks.

1. Mission M31i (RM???)

2. Epos M5i (RM???) According to Klimal, the speakers can be auditioned at Acoustic Arts Sdn. Bhd.

3. Whardedale Diamond 10.1 (RM899) Can be auditioned and purchased at Desa Home Theater. (Thank you BOTAK_WAI)

4. Monitor Audio BR2 [Review] [Review] [Review] [Review] (RM???)
Can be auditioned at Acoustique Systems, Level 1, Amcorp Mall (thank you htkaki).

5. LS3/5A (RM???) Review Can be auditioned at a Lowyat hifi shop

6. Aviano 1 (RM900-999) Review
Reference credits go to htkaki &, klimal.

Nobody has stupid questions.

A good and musical bookshelf speakers definitely will do well for movies. The other way around may not be always true.

Cost? that depend how much you willing to pay. I am trying to create this thread to collect all the info for any sub 1k speakers. I believe they can sound good. Hopefully this can be a reference point for people who are tight in budget like me. If you have any sub RM1k candidate speaker you came across, please let me know so I can add it to the 1st post.

Epos is a good brand. I am using it now.
Another one to check out is the Spendor LS3/5A for listening to classical stuff. I think the hi-fi shop at Low Yat sells it. Can't remember name of shop as it's been years since I went there.

Do you know the price range of Spendor LS3/5A?

Can any kind handsome and pretty sifu reply back the retail prices for Epos m5i & Mission M31i as reference for future potential buyers?

Also, please also suggest any good speakers under your possession or have been auditioned for under RM1K.

I intend to make this post for as a reference for me and future buyers.

Let's make it a better place to lepak.

Added on November 29, 2011, 7:34 amAdded Mordaunt-Short Aviano 1 in the list. Aviano 1 is a new China made speaker I found and sounds so "hifi".

I'm building a separate stereo setup, currently using wharfedale 10.2 for stereo which i switch back and forth for home theater setup..Any idea how it's fair against wharfedale?
*
Wharfedale 10.2 is a pair of good speaker. Unfortunately, we couldn't secure one so far to do a A/B comparison.
However, we did compare with Ascend CMT-340 and definitely Encore edged out the former in high and low register, with warmer signature. On the other hand, former AV123 has done some comparisons and it concluded that the Encore can definitely match those around USD1000.

We did invite some speaker veterans for auditions and even sent a pair to psvsound for reviewing, all make an identical conclusion: it is not a 1k or 2k signature, but 3+k.

In fact, Encore is designed upon reference of Aerial Acoustics Model 5 loudspeaker. Surprisingly, one of the local reviewer was able to correctly guessed that that.

Let's me show you the comments, they are in Chinese ...

RM3k??

Will you join the coming kliav this July? It would be a good platform to demo your speakers..I'm hoping you will be joining coz I'll be there..
*
Not this year.
Although it is a good platform to get exposure, it will jet up the speaker price tremendously. The speaker price at 1.2k does not generate a lot of profit, and we gonna sell 20+ pairs to cover the cost.
Perhaps next year, after we have more products.

Anyway, x-ls encore allow you to do 10 days in house audition, and if you are not satisfied w it, you can return it. No question asks. Isn' this a lot better than av show environment?

So I plan to buy a set of decent bookshelf speakers, budget around MYR1000, I intend to use a T-amp, Lepai 2020A to drive it. Can sifus gives some suggestion to me? Thanks biggrin.gif

Me myself is Wharfedale 10.1 user, of course my vote will goes to it.

You can get it from Desa Home Theater, they made offer during KLIAV 2013, RM850 per pair. I think you can get RM899 by walk-in.
I suggest you pair it with Marantz PM6004, very musical.

Thank you, updated the price listing at the first post.
