Hi to all snooker's lover & sifus here, pls help me to clear few doubts in my mind!
I always heard that to improve ur snooker game u have to buy ur own cue, but there is so many cue to choose for in the market so...

1)Is it the more expensive cue is better and make us more skillful thus can increase the pot succes rate 0.o?
2)Which is the best material (such as ebony, ashwood, zebrawood, etc...), lenght, wide or weight of cues to choose for OR is it totally depends on personal preference?
3)What is the most popular brand that ussually used in local and where is the place to bought?
4)Any site that u guys always surf and have all the usefull articles about snooker game?

TQ very much and please share ur thought guys, lets us improve our game together!! biggrin.gif

Answer to:
1) Yes, more expensive cue at times would be better but it also depends on whether it suits the player. It will not make you more skillful but it would be an advantage towards certain shots because using a house cue, every cue is different as the feel, tip shape, deflection etc etc which may affect your game. Increased pot rate does not come from cues, it comes from working hard on drills and dedication towards the game.

2) I believe this should be left for cue makers or players that are more familiar with cue technology. And yes, it does depend on personal preference as well

3) Most popular brand, i would believe for snooker is omin? Not very sure as I play pool only

4) None... I believe if you have a chance to learn from pro players (yes even locally) that has gone through a series of training programmes or exercises, it would benefit you a lot already

On the side note, any Taylor's students here play pool?

Hi,

Good cue does make a diff .. but no need too expensive. You just to know how to select a good cue. do some research on how to know whether the cue is good or not.

Recommended : http://www.handmadecues.com/home/21-general.htm

Placing is important .. but shots like deep screw .. power shot . . spin.. You do need a cue that is responsive. Of cux dont forget you need the technique too..

About weight .. length .. that you would have to try out diff weight length of cue to help you find a spec that best suit you. For me .. I'm playing with 58 1/3 length cue. 18oz.. and 9.5mm tip.

You just need a good shaft.. the design of burl wood.. zebra wood.. olive wood .. maccassar is all about personal preferences and looks only. Dont waste too much on design. Exotic wood comes very expensive.

In Asia, most players go for Omin or Mastercue. They are cheaper compare to Mat Salleh cue. Playability .. you can see that most Asian top players are using their cue so not a problem. But comes to woodmanship, there are some difference is western cues and asian cues.
You would have to try it yourself to tell the difference, cux some said yes some said no.. it depends on personal.

For more useful information, articles and techniques... come join www.thesnookerforum.com .. TSF .. there have coach and cue makers to chat and share about many things, I'm Freddie Ng on TSF forum..

Hope this helps,
Freddie

but this shaft is not good for hard hitters. just a bit of displacement from the center will cause more spin than usual. designed for soft hitters.

Maybe we could help introduce a buyer if you could show us the condition of the shaft and butt. Dents, scratches etc etc.

ya bro i quit a few years ago to stick with music. had a 314 1st gen shaft on an aska butt (PH locally made, already sold) and an al bautista JB cue (PH locally made too). helped me win 2nd place and 3rd place trophy and plaque (but never 1st place). now i rarely play, but at times i miss playing.
