QUOTE(ben83 @ Aug 6 2011, 09:23 PM) Replace or not, pay or not, it is the customer's choice but it is the service centre's duty to inform. ya..this one got recallThe airbag problem of older Gen2 is known problem & Proton already announced the recall for 2008 and older models. http://www.mmail.com.my/content/51622-gen2...o-recall-proton but other brand like toyota and perodua sometime also got inform but their user also didn't replace it cuz it's expensive and got report also it didn't deploy or pre deploy each is around 2-2.5k each for p1 and p2...toyota ones are more expensive which is why car theft like to steal it |

Expensive or not, it is up to the customer to judge although for Gen2 it should be replaced for free.but other brand like toyota and perodua sometime also got inform but their user also didn't replace it cuz it's expensive and got report also it didn't deploy or pre deploy each is around 2-2.5k each for p1 and p2...toyota ones are more expensive which is why car theft like to steal it Every 2008 & older Gen2 sent to Proton authorized service centres for car service, the airbag problem checking/replacement should be in the checklist. Otherwise we expect to see & hear more of this problem. Of course there are customers that never send their Gen2 to authorized service centre for car service after warranty period, but this is a separate matter. |

QUOTE(MR_alien @ Aug 6 2011, 09:09 PM) it is actually its actually 10year and not 2 year if the airbag is install in good condition...no recall...no problem if it pre-mature deploy and didn't deploy at all we could only blame ourself for not checking and replacing it regularly if i'm not wrong airbag have an "expire date" as well...after 2 year(i think)..need to replace already and it's RM2k each....do u want to replace it?? which is why SC didn't check it...and we just leave it....leave it to luck...if lucky, it will deploy when accident despite after the 2 years Added on August 6, 2011, 9:10 pm including the airbag???...thn good...go for it |

QUOTE(rickyro @ Aug 6 2011, 09:38 PM) Actually i went to PSC once the recall is announced and they noted my car's details and told me that they need to order the part, once it arrived they'll call me to get it replaced but they didn't call me even after 3 months plus of my last visit.During the 4th month,my airbag deployed by itself. I guess for my case it's different from urs because i've already went to PSC and they've key-in my claim for order the part but my airbag successfully deployed by itself before they call me.It's clearly their fault. They have nothing to argue other than just replace all of the involved parts for free of charge.I didn't pay anything. Since u didn't notice the recall and u've called a 3rd party mechanic to remove it,i'm skeptical whether they'll do the claim for u but i would just advise u to try talking with them.Gd luck. QUOTE(rickyro @ Aug 6 2011, 09:50 PM) I just sent my car for service just over a week ago at Proton Service Centre. They only did some regular maintenance I think u should blame on u first because u didn't even knew about the recall,it was on news, papers and few local automotive web/blog/forum.If u notice it,im sure u've voice it out on ur last service or get it done months ago.2ndly the mistakes on PSC as well for not being concern enough to check through. |

Did your steering cracked once the airbag was deployed? If I were you, might as well install a steering without airbag. Other cars... airbag saves life but this... It might take away your life. Imagine the airbag being deployed when you're cruising in the middle of the highway. Seriously dangerous.

Other cars... airbag saves life but this... It might take away your life. Imagine the airbag being deployed when you're cruising in the middle of the highway. Seriously dangerous. I don't think ur suggestion make much sense. It has been reported through the mass media that the clock spring (airbag rotary coupling) need to be replaced and TS unfortunately not aware of that. Then how about those Persona/Saga BLM/Exora/Myvi users with airbags equipped? Anything with defect need to be changed, apply to this case as well. Changing to steering wheel without airbag will not solve the problem. Other brands did recalled their cars as well for quality issues, we couldn't blame the manufacturer if owner did not return to rectify the problem. To TS, I'm not pushing all the blame to you as you not aware of the news but sometimes bad luck does happen and unfortunately it fall on ur head this time. If it just clock spring + steering airbag alone, the cost of the 2 spare parts won't be above 1.2k. The driver airbag alone only cost around RM950 in retail price, after discount it will be less than that. If the service centre advisors kind and smart enough, they should be able to help you claim the parts. |

QUOTE(LittleBear @ Aug 7 2011, 11:48 AM) Please refer to this thread: http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1636137/+1060* have u ever been behind the steering wheel of BMW tat his driver airbag deploy? Read and see the comments posted by Conroe... As you can see, when the airbag was deployed, the steering cracks & the cracked hard plastic could possibly hit your eyes. Don't you think its risky & dangerous when the airbag is deployed that way?? It seems PROTON did not design the steering well to cater for proper air bag deployment. this is fate, not design flaws » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « |

QUOTE(LittleBear @ Aug 7 2011, 11:48 AM) Please refer to this thread: http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1636137/+1060* I was lucky enough that the plastic didn't hit other parts of my body. I think the airbag deployment was fine. I hope that my case is justified by proton and will give me a full repair to it. If not, I'll just install a racing steering with a horn and that is itRead and see the comments posted by Conroe... QUOTE(LittleBear @ Aug 7 2011, 11:48 AM) Please refer to this thread: http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1636137/+1060* There are so many possibility of how an accident occurred due to the impact direction.Read and see the comments posted by Conroe... As you can see, when the airbag was deployed, the steering cracks & the cracked hard plastic could possibly hit your eyes. Don't you think its risky & dangerous when the airbag is deployed that way?? It seems PROTON did not design the steering well to cater for proper air bag deployment. Will steering wheel crack or bent? Does the legs of drivers actually bang the dashboard lower, steering shaft? I guess you don't really know the car design well, and I dun think u shouldn't comment much by just doing some simple reading. To TS, even new airbag/rotary coupling won't cost much, roughly 1k with installation? Your life is worth more than that. You will appreciate the airbag if it deploy for good reason in the future. It may save your some teeth, a scar on the face, etc. |
