About 70% of the time I alt-tab/hit Windows key/zoom out of Heroes of Newerth, my screen blacks out. Sometimes my laptop immediately hangs and has to be shut-down forcefully (several times already). But sometimes, it recovers and shows me the following dialog on the bottom-right taskbar:

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

For those that prefer not to see the screenshot, it says:
QUOTE
Display driver stopped responding and has recovered

Display driver AMD driver stopped responding and has successfully recovered.

I already reinstalled my driver and it worked... for a few days. Then the problem came back. What should I do?

Thanks!

On fixed mode, not sure if I'll encounter this problem in dynamic mode since I never tried it.

@SRLee, does that only happen with Heroes of Newerth ?
*
Yeah, but that's probably because I mostly play Heroes of Newerth only. tongue.gif

Yup, that bios.
Does this also happen when you are using stock/older driver ?
*
I have no idea. I had the latest drivers when I started playing Heroes of Newerth in this laptop.

1. I uninstalled my driver from Device Manager (AMD only).

2. Downloaded and installed AMD High-Definition Graphics Driver from HP's website. (After installing, the display turned off and I had to force shut-down, to date I've did about 5 force shut-downs... in 2 months!)

3. Installed CCC 11.7 (not 11.5b tongue.gif) from link on first post.

My replacement laptop has arrived and is waiting for me to go collect.

How likely is it that it is a recon unit?

OK I got a replacement unit a few days ago.

So far, I'm pretty satisfied with my new laptop except that it gets pretty laggy, i.e. sometimes it takes up to 2 seconds for the text that I input to come out, or to switch Firefox tabs through clicking, or scrolling down a webpage after clicking a link, or just opening a blank new tab, etc. It takes a significantly longer time. What could be the problem here?

The AMD driver crash issue with Heroes of Newerth still exists, although it does recover for the 2 times I've encountered it.

The USB 3.0 transfer speeds is still bad, even after I reinstalled the driver (Renesas) from HP. At this moment of writing, I'm transferring 19.6GB of items (videos and documents) at a rate of 9.00MB/s to 9.86MB/s, which is absolutely horrible. I'm beginning to regret that I bought a USB 3.0 external hard drive.

CULPRIT DETECTED! WDSmartWare was backing up whatever I was putting into my laptop, I guess that's why my transfer speed suffered. Now my transfer speeds are slightly better. It fluctuates a lot. I was expecting a consistent >50MB/s of transfer rates with USB 3.0. However, USB 3.0 transfer speed is still more than double than the transfer speed of USB 2.0 (for the same item). I guess that's something good.

For comparison purposes, my USB 2.0 external hard drive is clocking speeds of 20MB/s to 26MB/s from a USB 2.0 port. Seriously. What is going on here? rclxub.gif

As a summary, my problems so far:

1. Laptop lagness.
2. AMD driver crash issue when hitting Windows key in Heroes of Newerth.
3. Extremely slow Slow USB 3.0 speed.

Any solutions?

UPDATE: AMD driver crashed during transferring of various data from external HD to internal HD. Screen blacked out for a second before becoming normal again. What is happening? I'm pretty sure transferring items don't need to use HD6770M. Note: I'm on fixed mode running HD6770m permanently.

Another update: The laptop lags until it is absolutely unbearable when transferring large amount of data.

@Acid, are you requesting me to post a HijackThis log?

@chuahuaping, my previous unit had the following problems:

1. Hard drive error that I didn't even know. The technician at HP discovered it after I sent my unit for other issues.
2. LCD scratches made by HP technician.

Your can recreate AMD "driver not responding" with HoN right?
can u disable this 4 processes from startup ad then recreate the error?

YCMMirage.exe
HPOSD.exe
HPMSGSVC.exe
HPCMDelayStart.exe
*
By disabling this 4 processes, do you mean disabling them in msconfig > startup?

I can only find the HP startup programs, YCMMirate.exe is not in msconfig > startup.

yeah.. but wait.. i think u can just force end these processes and recreate the error.

Ok I know how to end these processes. But how do I re-enable them? Rebooting?

I disabled all but HPDelayStart.exe (not found in processes).

Problem recreated successfully. Sequence below:

1. Disabled 3 processes.

2. Start Heroes of Newerth.

3. Hit "Windows" key 5 times, successfully and seamlessly switched out of HoN in all attempts.

4. Created a practice game.

5. Hit "Windows" key 5 times, successfully and seamlessly switched out of HoN in all attempts.

6. Click on "Start Game".

7. Once the countdown is done, right away hit "Windows" key.

8. Problem recreated successfully.

i'm really running out of idea now... i tried to replicate what u did there in HoN but i didn't get any driver crashed/BSOD.

since this is your replacement unit and u still getting the same problem, i'm guessing the driver conflicted with something u installed after that.. hmm.gif
*
It's a weird coincidence. doh.gif

However, the 3 times the driver crashed in this new replacement unit, it successfully recovered. Let's hope I don't have to force-shutdown. sweat.gif

Could it be the game installer problem ?
*
Couldn't be, Acid can't recreate the problem and my friend that owns a similar laptop cannot recreate the problem too.

QUOTE(Acid_RuleZz @ Aug 22 2011, 12:42 PM)
Then about the lag u mentioned.. is it overall system lagging or just specific app/situation/condition?
*
The minor lag occurs randomly and in no specific app, situation or condition.

But during transferring of large amount of data, externally or internally, the lag becomes serious until after the transferring is done.

OK so this is one of my lag I'm experience while not transferring data, i.e. normal use lag.

Whenever I boot my laptop, I open Firefox. And when I do that, Firefox's window will load up then the screen just freezes. The mouse cursor can be moved, but Firefox's tabs will not load and the current tab does not load anything. After about 5 seconds, everything resumes, albeit with a little feeling of lag.

So what can I do?

Your Ffox is stock or full with extensions? Lag happened only when u run FFox right after Windows logon?
If lag only happened after logon i think that because Window is still loading the services examples prefetcher, windows search & etc.

Btw, u might want to install Auslogics Disk Defrag then run Defrag and Optimize from time to time.
Alternative to Auslogic Disk Defrag is Piriform Deffragler.. althought its not as fast as Auslogics' but it has boot time defrag which can be usefull to defrag your fragmented system files.
*
My Firefox has 3 extensions and constantly less than 3 tabs when I open it.

I can't seem to replicate the problem. It lags when it wants to. Sometimes, I get smooth performance. sweat.gif

I do have Auslogics Disk Defrag, which I Defrag & Optimize frequently (once in 2 days maybe).

Anyway, what's a good boot time?

My boot time, measured with Bootimer, ranges from 28.5 to 30.0 seconds. I think it's pretty good. icon_rolleyes.gif
