hahahaha, why should there be gender preferences if you're looking for someone to be a workout partner at the gym? besides in most cases guys would be more suitable as majority of the guys are physically bigger, since you're "lifting heavy".

smells like bait to me.

because i am a GIRL! demmit XD

I do wish to workout with the big guys but i dont wanna be a hindrance coz i cannot lift as heavy as them but i lift heavier than most average guys. I could at least carry my own bodyweight for all compound exercises.

so far this is what i could do but cant push any further;

bench press: at least 50kg
chin up/pull up: not assisted/bodyweight could probably max out 8-10 reps
deadlift: 80kg
rows: at least 50kg
squat: at least 50kg
dips: not assisted/bodyweight can go for 20 reps
bicep curls: 50lbs

if you big guys dont mind to keep taking out and putting back plates for every single thing, then i am cool with it.

Use the smith machine.. keep your back straight. Move in a controlled manner. Focus on your thighs not your back when you squeeze up. And most importantly... don't look down smile.gif. If you have a training belt that would help a bit...

I notice you deadlift 80 kg. That there shows that you have a pretty strong back and core. My 2 cents... go for it. Slowly try adding the weights on yer squats.. pretty soon you'll have something new to rave about.

Seeing a lady doing this... wow.. Most of us here are definitely proud of you smile.gif I'll be honoured to train with you, unfortunately I'm not a true fitness member. Having a DJ in the weights area is just wrong!!!... has anyone flung a dumbbell at the fella yet?

I'm usually at Axis PJ. Hey, I can bring people in during the weekends.. Care for a weekend Legs Blast?.

I think you've given some people a good lesson about not jumping to conclusions too quickly. brows.gif

For the squats, so long as your form is right, adding weight (within your capability, of course) shouldn't be a problem. Try looking for videos on proper form for squats, ie Mark Rippetoe's videos, or even take a video of your squat to get some C&C on your form.

If i only have someone around to help take a video..... LOL
I know i could add more since on a hack squat i could go 200lbs and and leg press 360lbs.

It's my brain that's stopping me. I've seen horror videos of accidents while squating and i guess have been quite a chicken since :S

raynx,

I know a couple of girls who do weights at TF Jaya33. Problem is, they lift nowhere near your poundages. As you said, your lifts are heavier than the average Malaysian male, much less most females. They did mention that if you would face the same problem as you would training with the big guys, constant moving of plates.

I think it would be easier for you to get male lifters who move around your poundages as compared to females. The only female at Jaya33 who could potentially partner you would be LadyVanity.

I think I know raynx. I saw you today, while the f***ed up Thai kickboxing noisy shit was going loco and pissing all the regular members off. I had no mood to do cardio with all that noise.

I hate to say this but Sheldon88 has a point. Lol, a female lifter is still a lifter no matter what. They'd like it if you treated like one of the guys. No special attention or heaps of praises are needed. She wants a workout partner, not an admirer or oggler.

Yes darklight, we see each other in the gym very often smile.gif

And thank you for pointing out that i dont need all the attention. Like i said, if I can't find a female workout partner, a guy would do fine as well. So any taker pls pls pls pls pls? You can only lift to a certain extent alone, work limited muscle groups with machines and it's definately safer with a partner.

Wow, it's good to hear a number of LYN forumers are patrons to TF Jaya 33. I myself am one too, but kinda newbie at it.
And yes, I do agree that last night's kickboxing launch was a tad bit annoying. Especially when they wired the music and the mic to locker rooms speakers as well.
Nice meeting you guys. smile.gif

If raynx came to my gym she would definitely get some stares man. I've never seen a girl in my gym do any unassisted pull ups before. Hell, a girl gets stares when she does assisted pull ups.
I've got a good mind to bring u to my gym and show the young boys dicking out at the weights area just how far they have to go lol. That'll definitely be fun!
Oh and fyi you can lift alone and still progress though I do agree progression is definitely faster if u got a good workout partner

You can train with me if we happen to be doing the same bodypart. But everytime you see me lift you start shaking your head. Just ask to join, I'm not some crazy *******. =)

Added on July 28, 2011, 11:57 amwookp, it was a total waste of time. It's just a typical kickboxing class which is held outside the normal aerobics room. Then we got the bunch of retards following the class and screaming away thinking they're so cool and acting like real kickboxers. Lame. They should use the money for maintenance of the machines and weights, not promoting some stupid shit.
I have a healthy respect for Thai kickboxing but that wasn't the real deal.

Ya knoe.. I've been practising martial since I was a kid and every time I pass by or see one of those 1+1 muah tai kickboxing thinggy that some of the pt's would conduct. I just feel sorry for the guy taking it up. Their form is never corrected. Its not even in the same league as the real deal. Guys, if you're seriously thinking about martial arts.. enrol yourself in a school where the master has a good number of years experience behind him.. Not one of these martial crap that sells so well in fitness centers.

I knoe this off topic.. but seriously... Instead of promising good health, These classes do nothing but promise false hopes unwanted injuries sad.gif

Just had to chip in.

I also come from a martial arts background in three forms, and I don't have a problem with some of the members who join the class. It's all about mentality. There are those who join for cardio reasons, so a crappy knee strike doesn't really matter as the whole point is to get the body running. There are also those whose basic punches are all out of sorts, but that's alright as they're just doing something different rather than jogging for cardio. It's just a different form of cardio for em.

The ones who I do have issues with, are those who join as if it makes them real fighters (I've heard the term MMA being bandied about by a couple shakehead.gif ). The basic guard is often too low or too high, and they can't kick without losing balance. But they often huddle around in a group eyeballing other members with a 'mightier than you' look. But then again, I just mind my own business and just get on with my routine.

Meh... lol. I mind their business cos they were doing it outside in the main area as opposed to a sound proofed room cos it's a promotional stint. That makes it hard to mind my own business.

Where's the LIKE button on this post?

However, I think it's a one day thing? Since I didn't see anymore such classes yesterday.

As a paying member of a gym, I find it annoying too and that's the trend nowadays with commercial gyms. A new launch and there's a big hoo-hah with it coming all over the speakers, not to mention lots of people getting in my way.

I can train alone AND with a partner. But if I train with a partner, we rarely talk at all. It's only the usual give me a spot on this or 1 more ,things like that.

this is probably a good place to rant this out. i usually workout solo as my work forces me to adjust my gym timings and personally i prefer to train solo. Anyways, i have this inexplicable fear of big weights. every session seems to be 50% psychological war for me. thoughts like getting pinned on the bench press, breaking my back during DL, snapping my wrists and arms off during seated shoulder presses are very common, although the possibility of it happening is quite small. (but possible). i spend probably half a minute with db's already in position for lift off trying to eliminate the fear for every heavy set that i do, lol.

So whenever i have a gym buddy to train with i always make sure to stretch my weights a tad bit heavier than i would have been able to lift. but if its solo its usually fear holding me back from taking up the new db's..

anyone have this problem and if yes, how do you cope with it?

OR you can just nicely ask one of the trainers or nearby members to give you a spot. Never had any trouble at that.

brah, ever heard of "mind over matter" ? it is all in your head... i remember when i bench my maximum weight, i called my buddy to spot me for another 3 reps more... by the time i rack the weight my gym buddy looked at me and said " are u sure u needed a spot just now brah? i barely touch anything at all"... i was like "bertstare" at him... then i realize it is all in your mind... if u think the weight is light, then it is light, hence the line "light weight bebeh"!!!... no wonder Ronnie n Branch keep on saying that...

Big fear especially on heavy shoulder presses. I'd sit on the bench with my dbs in hand and stare blindly into space and I always stay in the sitting position of the deadlift for ages before I have the drive (balls) to start my set.

It's normal. Just talk to yourself. I do. "Let's go. 10 reps(whatever number) You can do it" It's weird, but you can just mumble it under your breath so people don't look at you strange.

Damn, how I wish I can train with this strong lady here..
But my strength is nowhere near her limit. And I don't train nowhere near there cry.gif
My squat is more than hers tho tongue.gif
But as soon as she kill that fears, I think she will be jumping far away from current limit.
Go go go.. Don't let anything get in your way.

raynx : can u tell me your workout schedule maybe we could train together, i always train alone most of the time and i cant do much without a spotter as i m prone to injuries by nature thus its always safer to have someone spot me.

i workout almost 3-4 times a week on different times tho perhaps if timing is right then we can have some sessions together smile.gif

i dont lift that heavy tho i m more focused on form
but should be able to match your stats smile.gif
