1. Annual Income:
RM30K

2. Free Lifetime Annual Fee:
A Must

3. Card required for:
Petrol (Esso)
Occasionally hotel bookings (work - claim, but I heard its better/cheaper to pay cash?)
PTPTN repayment (using FPX monthly, charged RM0.50/transaction)
Groceries (cause have J-card)

4. Existing credit cards if any:
Nil. tongue.gif

5. Preferred Bank or Considering CC from banks:
CIMB (cause I plan to use CIMB Clicks to pay icon_rolleyes.gif . Weird?)

6. Others:
I will be traveling next week (Wed), so would like to get one before then.
Will mainly be using it to pump petrol. Might use it to pay back my PTPTN if cheaper compared to the current RM0.50/transaction.
Planning to purchase something above RM1500 next month (senior told that its better to pay installment instead of lump sum since now 0% interest)
If there are reward, would prefer it to be cash based and not point.

7. Estimated Spending per month with the card:
Less than RM1K

Tried to read this, but no time as too much work and headache doh.gif , so decided to trouble you guys here whistling.gif . Sorry

hahaha, just the way I described Gen Y - product of our education system, just want fast answer without working for it.

I guess for your case I'll make it short - Maybankard 2 Cards Gold. If you want it fast, go to Maybank 1U or KLCC card centre. Want more info, go read below article, that is if you free and no headaches tongue.gif
http://creditcardsmalaysia.blogspot.com/20...-cimb-visa.html

And by the way, can you pay your PTPTN loan with Credit Card?
*
hmm.gif hmm.gif , to be honest I had no idea at all on whether can be paid or not. Was thinking the same thing last night. Well, since I have sometime today, will be doing some reading during lunch time. I do like to do more research on a particular thing, but with a limited time and unlimited meetings to attend, I can hardly find anytime to do so.

Hi, I am back, and after more reading and digging, I am now dizzying.

Ok, I always have the perception that what ever you buy with a CC, you have to pay more. EG: RM2,000 if cash, but if CC then end of month will be RM2,0xx. But after some more reading, especially one of the plan that I have, buying a TV set, pay in 12 month installment with 0%, so meaning if RM2,000 by end of 12 month, I pay RM2,000? Assuming I pay on time/early.

But then I read somewhere you will be charged extra if pay early, so can I make my CC into something like a Debit Card? Meaning I know every month I need to pay RM300, I just give advance payment of RM400, for 3 months in a row, and the 4th month I did not pay in time, (bank only will charge/kill you when delay payment etc right?) do I still get charged? Since I always overpay and paid early for the last 3months, I should have extra RM300 to cover my ass.

Sorry for getting you guys rclxub.gif . Will try to re-phrase if you can't understand the stupid me. icon_rolleyes.gif

-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*

Oh yeah, I am planning CIMB's CC or Maybank (like you suggested), if a showdown between these two, which would benefit me more? Both also can pay (w/o extra charge) via their own online portal right(Maybank2u/Clicks)?

Thanks for the good info

If for petrol, definitely Maybankard 2 Cards. For online, wshoh have been saying that CIMB deemed your purchase online thru Applestore.com.my as overseas transaction even though it is in RM. Also read this Thread by idoblu on CIMB online security.

Click here to read my latest article titled Best Credit Cards for Petrol and Movies.

As for installment plan 0%, yes no interest charges if you pay on time amount stated in the Monthly Statement. And yes, some cards do charge you exit fee if let say you pay up in full by the 6th month for the 12 months installment plan. Anyway, no benefit if you pay more in advance since you sign up for 12 months 0% installment plan.

Alright, assuming I pump RM300/month.
Correct me if I'm wrong:
Card 1: 5% Cash Back (CB)
Card 2: 5X Treat Points (TP)

Since 5% CB is capped@RM50, I will only use Card 1 to pump once during weekend. Even if I pump RM100 during weekend, it should be useless. So instead, I will use Card 2 for its 5X TP which will convert to a 1-2% CB. Couple the 2 cards with ESSO Smiles card.

So if I used Card 1 and pumped RM50 during weekend, I will get RM2.50 discount in the next statement?
And Card 2, how do I redeem the cash back? I can see it in next statement or is it like the J Card, where you gather all the points to get something?
Smiles Card, will just redeem petrol once desired points are reached.
answer

Another thing is I plan to use it as a substitute to cash, so forget the troublesome-ness, if lets say I pump RM100 petrol this week, and next Monday I use Maybank2u and pay RM100 (statement not out yet). Is it alright?
01 Sep 2011 - Statement out (Billed RM 100)
02 Sep 2011 - RM 50 petrol
10 Sep 2011 - What are the difference if I pay RM100 vs RM150? (Assuming if I pay RM150, does that means I don't have to pay 1cent for next month's statement?)
answer - If pay RM100
answer - If pay RM150

One last Question for now. In your topic CC Slave, its true that we are charge killer interest when we are unable to settle the amount by the due date. And every other swipe that comes after will be calculate into daily interest charged until you settle the FULL amount. Lets say I am in that category, I paid short RM100, and the next month I use the card to pay for petrol RM50. So both the RM100 and RM50 will be charged the daily interest until
Paid FULL amount on
(i) the day I swipe RM50 (Pay RM200 and statement not out yet) answer
(ii) the day the statement was out (paid immediately the total amount stated on the statement) answer
(iii) paid extra RM200 just in case of some unseen charges before the due date (if I pay at 20th, do the interest stop as of 20th or will it continue to cumulate until the Due Date? answer

in short, MBB 2card use amex to pump petrol will entitle u to earn 5x TP but master or visa card only 1x TP
and use amex card during WEEKEND then only entitled to 5% rebate
capped at RM 50/month rebate which is also spending of up to RM 1000
*
Ok, so basically MBB2card, one of it is AMEX and the other is Master/Visa.
AMEX earn 5X TP and 5% Cash back (weekends only, cap RM50/month)
Visa/Master = useless

What do you mean by RM1,000? Meaning if I spend lesser then RM1,000/month, I won't be entitled for the 5% cash back of RM50 which is RM2.50?

please refer to the dedicated thread here
you'll get the 5% on weekend nonetheless
*
Thanks for the guidance. Its a good read.

So that means I was more or less right, the most benefit card among the two is AMEX, so there is practically no use holding the Visa/Master right?

Meaning if I swipe the card at Esso on weekend, I get triple bonus?!
1) 5% cash back (cap RM50)
2) 5X points (no cap) = +-2.5% cash back
3) +-1.5% cash back Esso card (no cap)

Meaning if I pump RM300/month, for 10 month
1) RM 50 x 5.0% = RM2.50 x 10 = RM25
2) RM300 x 2.5% = RM7.50 X 10 = RM75
3) RM300 x 10mnths = RM3,000 = RM45

Total in 10months, for petrol only, I get RM145 cash back. Is this correct?

OMG, you are really as what I described as Gen Y, info/answers have to be spoon fed, hahaha. For RM300 petrol monthly, just  get the 5% cash back credit card and make your life simple.  Click here to read my article on CC for Petrol and Movies.

If you cannot pay in full monthly - in means you're living beyond your means AND my recommendation is not to get a credit card period. As for payment  it can be made anytime and not necessary on the Due Date. Interest charges should stop the moment your outstanding balance account goes back to zero i.e. payment in full.
Try get OCBC Titanium MasterCard as you will get 5% for petrol, hypermarket (go to OCBC TMC Thread to see list), dining and Telco bills. If you pump at Petronas, your CIMB will earn you 2% cash back,
Yah, you should post this petrol questions at Petrol thread. But since you posted here, I will assist you as I can see you're really blur (for a person that have a pretty good command of English).

Pump RM300 on Saturday or Sundays every month.

5% cash back x RM300 = RM15
2.5% return in terms of voucher xs RM300 = RM7.50
Total returns for 1o months = (RM15 + RM7.5) x 10 months = RM225 (you got to less GST to get nett)

The RM50 cap means  that is the maximum cash back you'll get per month. That means if you spend RM800 per month on weekends, you get RM40, and if you spend RM2,888 on weekends per month you will only get maximum RM50 cash back.
*
ALRIGHT! I've been an idiot thinking the following:
a) Its either 5X TP or 5% cash back, never both (But seeing your calculations, it means both can happen simultaneously) [5X TP for everyday, additional 5% applicable only during Weekend)
b) RM50 cap (I thought RM50 cap was the limit per month. In other words, I thought only the first RM50 swiped on weekend are applicable for 5% cash back)

Yes, I do admit that I always get spoon fed on things that I don't know whistling.gif . But that is why we have lots of friends, like if I know something more then my friends, I will spoon feed them and try to answer as many question that I can. because they always tend to throw some question that I can't answer, which is a good thing so that I can learn new things as well. tongue.gif

1) Now, since AMEX is so so so alluring, what are the down side? (As they say, when something looks too good, there is always something hidden at the back.)
2) What is the point of having VISA/MASTERS when I have such a good AMEX card? (From all that I've read, AMEX is the better card, but what am I not seeing?)

Of yeah, let me end this post with a BIG BIG THANK YOU to you guys who patiently taught me all these stuffs.

Bad thing on Amex
Not many merchants are accepting this at the moment. Go to the Places to Use Amex thread for the details  smile.gif

QUOTE(snigapoe @ Aug 22 2011, 08:36 AM)
they provide with u an alternative in case where merchant does not accept amex
*
Oh, ok. Anymore things that I am not seeing on AMEX?

I've checked the thread on places that accepts AMEX, I basically will only use it for petrol (ESSO) and sometime hotel (work). Will still pay most stuff via cash as I feel safer that way doh.gif . And if I found places that accepts AMEX, will report to that thread. Basically that is a bonus for me (to earn TP and/or cash back).

Oh guys, will be applying my very first CC sometime this week flex.gif . Since 1Utama can get it done in one hour, what are the things that I need to bring along hmm.gif ?

I've printed my 4months pay slip, and epf statement. Well, any other things that I should bring along? Considering going there around noon whistling.gif .

QUOTE(snigapoe @ Aug 22 2011, 08:55 PM)
that's true
it is up to ur decision
for me i written it as for mbb2card gold application only on all the document
if u wanted CC i'm afraid that's the only way u can do

Well, thanks for the advice, so I would just draw a line across from bottom left to top right with a blue pen and write for maybankard2 application xx/08/2011.

Hopefully I will be able to go and apply for my CC this Friday
