So, can it bare the intensity of Battlefield3?

If it does support it, what is the spec of your gaming rig? hmm.gif

Based on the reviews I've read so far, 6870 is one of the best bang for the buck cards in the market currently.

6870 and 5850 uses the same graphic board. Despite the benchmark result, 5850 perform better in games than 6870. It is only 6950 onwards that they started using a new board to house the graphic processing power.

GTX460 (768mb) here along with an i5-760 @ 2.8GHz & 4GB ram. I can run BC2 smoothly with High texture, High detail, Low shadow, 1xAA and HBAO off.

Other than performance, no problems so far.

Power supply should be able to support the card , and also CPU will not bottleneck it...

Sapphire re-tweak the HD5850 at a higher clock speed but for a low price.
But do note , depending on your PSU.

Should be ok, as it makes no sense for DICE to crank up the requirements so high to the point most 3 years old PC cant play.

Mine is slightly below the alpha recommended. Probably ok on Medium with 720p.

actually the best way is to set a budget on how much you are willing to spend on a graphic card then pick the best of the lot. Check PSU, PCIe slot and whether ur casing have enough space for it :3

I'm thinking between 3k to 2.5k. The specs u probably have to decide on whether u want a Intel system or an AMD instead. Both are just as good. From there only other stuff like mobo and Graphic card choices will come in

560 Ti Fzr II - mine was able to max all at 1920x1080 on BF2 ; highest FPS around 80-90 lowest probably 40. Depending on the AA settings you're using ; I'm using the CSAA 16x though.

Chill peeps, no need to get top of the line products. As long as the game runs smooth on budget ~ mid-range hardware it's fine.........

Unless, you're truly a graphic whore or a freaking rich kid.

True , but some people prefer fine details @ constant fps in the game , same goes for me.
Like i said , calm down , no official requirement is set up yet.

Why Hexa ? Unless you do alot of graphic editing and video encoding then you absolutely dont need 6 cores. For gaming, Quad cores are slowly becoming the standard requirements nowdays and it's more than enough.

^yes, at least it can support future games with ease rather than keep upgrading yur rig trying to keep up with it, which is more costly.

mine using 955BE running great on max setting BC2 but card not decent enough.

rite now im using AM3 mobo (asus M4N98TD EVO), so bulldozer is definitely out for me. it will cost me a fortune to buy new AM3+ mobo (asus sabertooth or formula V) not to mention the proccessor itself will be expensive.

a good read on am3+ proc on am3 mobo

I'm using i3 2100 too bro, and it runs BC2 damn fine. B4 this i was using a phenom II x3 720BE and cant even get close to teh performance of 2100 unless i unlock it to quad.

The problem is some games does benefit from hyper threading just like Crysis 2 , which ppl who own an i5 540 can play the game smoothly.

I'm sticking with the 2100 for now and see how it runs come BF3. If not up to par , then no choice but to go Quad. Another hole in the wallet.

Read the specs properly, its recommended specs, not minimum.

Also, the game is very unoptimised till now.

at least can confirm my rig (read my signature) runs BF3 at 1920x1080 High Settings (highest in Alpha Trial) at fps 60-80, average 70, with single 5870, smooooooth
Crossfire does not scale well, unplayable instable low fps below 32, it just an alpha trial or beta,
so I hope gpu manufacturers make it better multi gpu support smile.gif

These are for reference only until the full game release,

Well, you probably right if you solely does nothing but gaming. However, I do other things besides gaming so the extra RAM really helps alot in multi tasking. smile.gif

yeap i7 2600K, it's not my intention 12GB though, as the price of 2x4GB cheap and too cheap to let go my 2x2GB, so... mix it up, and got this. well, the more the better, it's not like the machine will slowing down...

I found benchmark for my laptop. People manage to run it on high with 1080p with 20 to 30 fps. That's not bad for a rather weak quad.

Until they unlock the full destruction. :/

I doubt the recommended specs will be that high, they'll be segmenting out a fair share of the gamer population.

That said, what I need is a RAM upgrade. Gonna cost me £40 for that. *sigh*

Resolution does come into part
while alot of people rather go for full 1920x1080
for me,i can't get used to screen bigger then 1400x900
smaller reso = lower performance to get to ultra settings
If im not mistaken

yep...lower resolution means lower demand from the gpu. But not the case for CPU..resolution does not affect the demand from CPU.

=.=..that kinda rig isn't for battlefield 3 only enough for many games to come
aren't going to upgrade yet this year even if i have to live with 1366x768
Ivy Bridge is interesting biggrin.gif
or maybe LGA2011
not going for AMD bobcats or Bulldozer though
*
So far I only can see view of the game that I want to play, they are Battlefield 3, Need For Speed The Run and Diablo III. Then I really don't know what game should I play anymore. tongue.gif

Might add another piece of GTX 580 to run in SLI mode and in single monitor.

my advice is

Don't!
wait for next year newer graphic card
you will just waste money for Sli
if you are using multiple monitor setup then Sli or Cfx is recommended
other then that is just benchmarks
or so in my opinion

Ya, single player at max setting and online at medium.

4870 is a powerful workhorse. The Core2Quad is at 2.13GHz.

I tried a "Jack Sparrow" version of Crysis 2 and surprisingly I am able to play at max setting with decent FPS.

No.. 512MB RAM not enough to run hi-res pack. Some more it is just a test and "jack sparrow" version, didn't bother to update.

Yeah, I got think of that, wait the new one come out see any better. This is because currently I am using 120Hz monitor, and the fps in the game must at least 90fps above or I'll see the lag of the graphic.

I'm using Samsung SyncMaster S23A950D, good for Counter-Strike 1.6 and Modern Warfare series.

Hey guys, just wondering. I'm planning to get 2x ATI 6950 (crossfire) solely to play BF3. But i'm not sure if my current mobo/setup supports it, the only thing i know is that my mobo support CrossFire. Planning to run BF3 at max settings on full def reso.

Asus Maximus Formula X38
Intel Q6600
4GB DDR2
Silverstone ST75ZF 750 watt PSU

Any guru able to help? Much appreciated, thanks.

Aside from that , found this little neat website...
It analyze your pc specs and compare it with the recommended and minimum specs needed.

http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/cyri/analysis.aspx

and search for Battlefield 3

*Note : This is a rough sketch , but it is the closest it will get*

This should made it clear which GPU can play BF3.

Also, low is for 1280x720 at minimum. High setting at recommended.

Intel i3 3.2Ghz dual-core, 8Gb High-performance *forget full spec* dual-channel, Leadtek GTX 460 OC Edition... dunno can or not. The most demanding game that struggles for me at max settings is "Metro 2033" (without AA runs smoothly, max settings 1920x1080). Of course, what I want for BF3 is 1920x1080 max settings. At least 2x AA. Not sure can or not, might turn off AA and reduce resolution but never graphical settings. I want to see full destruction! The 38% performance boost from the new Nvidia drivers seem to give me a boost of confidence, and so should it be for everyone else.

low end BC2 system should be able to run considering lowest in-game widescreen res in BF3 is 720x480 and 720x576.
lowest is 640x480.

so yea, no eye candy, but can still play.

I see some sites like guru3d suggesting http://www.yougamers.com/gameometer/10482/

Funnily enough, my humble 460 is good to go for high settings it seems lol.

This should made it clear which GPU can play BF3.

Also, low is for 1280x720 at minimum. High setting at recommended.

from system monitor, my amd x4 955be used about 60-70%, 4gb ram used about 70%
my GC, omg 100% full throttle which meant 200% maybe in actual usage lollolololol...

city area quite lag compared to park & tunnel area.

Played like 4 hours yesterday, i am running on Medium generally, with High textures and SSAO. No AA. Looks good enough for me and runs ok, with 30 to 50fps.

It gave me High as default and the fps was hovering around 20.

Caspian Border would probably kill the performance.

Wow, kinda scary with all the performance talk... I recall years ago on my old machine, running "Battlefield 2", all settings turned down and still pauses occuring. I still remember the developer saying recommended is "dual-core processor with 2Gigs memory" and I was like WTH... now for "Battlefield 3" it is "quad-core with 4Gigs memory".

*I have yet to see any games utilize more than 4Gigs memory. Perhaps this will be the first.

Benchmarks have started to appear for the Beta...

Gone case... bye bye 1920x1080. 21fps min and 23fps max for GTX 460! On an i7-2600k. On an i3, going to be a slide show. Even 560 Ti holds up really well. If performance is an issue regardless of resolution, goodbye PC version for me.

Whoa. Seriously... average 60fps, max 76fps. That gives me an awful lot of hope. Will try to Beta and experiment the settings to see how it goes.

Lol, will come after you if the performance is questionable since you gave me hope! Kidding, kidding... only planning to buy a brand new rig next year (Ivy Bridge + Nvidia 600 Series).

Just have *some* hope. I am planning on maxing out all settings and then lowering reso all the way down and turning off AA if I must. I said the exact same thing in 2007 for "Crysis" - - ended up leaving PC gaming and going console... now I'm back and with an option to opt for console version anytime.

Even its running quite badly now, probably due to low clock quad core and a mid range GPU. Should have import a Sager last year.

I am not impressed, especially with the rubbish Operation Metro.

Not sure if this has been posted, but the following analysis should help you decide building your rig. It covers the beta graphics settings as well as the performance of different cards on various settings. Mind you it's by nvidia so they would obviously champion their cards - and maybe even overestimating some figures. But for the 460 which i use, they're right on the money. The card performs more or less what they've stated, on those very same settings.

thats why you can run max on crysis 2, if on DX11 it's another story dude...

i think in beta, destruction not so overwhelm biggrin.gif
and theres a bug when u run into the hole, suddenly it suck u down XD

perhaps for final release, more destructions, and prepare for more lagging!!!

i may buying 6870 only if requirement not so extreme for high setting (not full 1080px still ok for me)
currently use HD4770, running all medium with 1600px only tongue.gif
not bad fps at caspian borders, 64ppls

I just tried bf3, everything low, everything off, playing @ 1920 x 1080; I don't think I got to play it @ 60fps.

Even though everything was set to low, the graphics was still good.

Sigh... need a new GPU already if I wanna play this at a higher settings and smoother frame rate.

i shopped and the boss assembled gtx560 ti twin frozr II for me instead of my request of msi gtx560 ti hawk, without any extra cost($which he said the former costs SGD$22 more)
but...how is the performance of the card? will it be almost the same?

hawk is more of performances
but twin fozr II is very good IMHO,
its have one of the nicest cooler i seen in GTX series
aside then DirectCuII
you won't see any differences
and don't worry its also can support BF3 nicely

err... what?

The last time I've checked, Hawk (aka Twin Frozr III) cost more than Twin Frozr II.

It's like you are now saying live in apartment cannot have a BMW 5 series? No such thing saying that using AMD processor and pair with nVidia graphic card is a bad idea. doh.gif

Alienware M15x, or MSI GX640.

Sure, can run on medium high settings. I've seen someone from this forum with the same specs as you running Battlefield 3 at 1680x1050 at around 40FPS.
