if anyone buys a car without considering the above criterias, its either filthy rich or super retard. doh.gif
it makes perfect sense to ask those questions before buying any car, which will be a financial liability to him in the future 5-10years.

i think it's ok to ask bout maintenance and fc unless u buy supercar. For sub 200k car, rm10k earner can buy already.

my neighbour owns a 350Z... bought 2nd hand from mudah.my advert.

He is a young Malay teacher with salary of RM 2,500 while his wife working at a company in Klang with salary RM 2,500.

Total household RM 5,000. One children.. and need to pay for one house he just bought plus the rent of the house beside mine.

For him before he bought... maintenance and fc is his greatest concern. He is used to driving a Gen.2 Evo CK.. so I just told him fuel might be like how his Gen.2 drinks when fully pressed on highway.

Finally he bought it anyway... his Gen.2 still there... but convert normal engine already.

I was quite astonished with his decision to buy the car.. here's why (he is my close neighbour... we play console games once in a while so I ask him for details of his financial and payment every month):

-Proton Gen.2 CPS RM650
-House + Bills RM900
-Nissan 350Z RM 1300
-House Rent RM 450

(at least this is what he told me... + - )

so RM 3,300. Household income RM 5,000 - RM 3,300 = RM 1,700

The reason he manages to get his 350Z is because he lives in Perak... his wife lives in Klang... so apparently he smooth talk his wife... his wife agree to share buy a Fairlady... and that is his ride every Friday night when he went off to Klang from Taiping to visit his wife.

The rest left only RM 1,700... and he is still able to continue living without any problems.

A lot of 'once a dream car' for many people... have actually been in reach to most of them now.

An RX-8 costs RM 90,000 to RM 110,000 at most.
A 350Z costs probably about RM 110,000.
An Evo 7 costs maybe about RM 112,000.

Mostly recon and 2nd hand... but for low salary enthusiasts.. they won't mind of course.

Ofcourse buying and maintaining it is a whole different story. Which is why these people... their very first concern would be how much the fuel is and how much to maintain it as daily driver vs weekend drive.

I don't know about other people here... but in my taman area... there's a lot of teachers here. People even go as far as calling this 'Taman Cikgu'. Me not a teach but somehow got stuck in this place as well haha sweat.gif

These teachers are young... sometimes maybe 35 at most. And they do own fancy cars. One neighbor owns a Harrier... the other drives an Estima. All with a mere salary of a teacher (I always assume it to be between RM 2,500 to RM 3,500 at most).

So there we go... no need to be a rich guy to own a sport cars in today's age. Only need to know where and how to manage financial income the right way if we choose to satisfy our car enthusiasm hunger. Like the malay chap beside my house... I've never seen a single light from his house at night. I'm guessing the only place switched on is probably his and his children's room.

He is a very religious guy every night about 7 pm go to the mosque already... then came back only at 10 pm... every single night. This kind of lifestyle... without pure entertainment like clubbing and weekend movies... is probably the source of his maintenance cash for his Z.

respect the courage... live life to the fullest... wish i had that mentality...
your neighbour's cars' installment is more than 2x the house doh.gif
my 2 cars' installment is still less than 1/2 of my installment for my houses doh.gif

most probably your neighbour gives tuition also, easily earn more than the peanut teacher's salary he's getting tongue.gif

yup, good for him.
minus some sundry/grocery expenses, he & wife left 1k to spend on food for each month. each get rm500.....

with the 350Z roadtax rm4.4k IIRC, what will that do to them? 4mths no need to eat just to save up for roadtax? remember thats excluding the car insurance, maintenance, wear n tear, bla bla....

not a butthurt person here, just wonder how could some1 with such income willing to risk so much just for self satisfactory.

If I were that teacher, with low income, I might as well consider to buy other cars than 350Z, like Skyline,DC5,S2k, EVO etc.
Fairlady are just eye candy. With lackluster performance compared to it's rivals + crazy roadtax & FC, it is not a good choice but still it's a looker,

Even DC5 & S2k can whoop Fairlady in racetrack... hmm.gif laugh.gif

i know market price for recon is around 160-170k
known problem would be transfer case whinning sound
fuel consumption not that sure and i tihnk maintenance cost is just the LSD fluid and engine oil etc etc?

However i was hoping there are more information regarding it
and also if drive an evo...can pump ron95? or must pump v-power
last time this is my dream car i was thinking die die must pump v-power since not that expensive...but now...as you all know fuel price increase like crazy.

I am not loaded with money, just a passionate guy that die die must drive evo...haha, but of cuz provided if i can afford it.

i dont think its stupid to ask about maintenance cost about a sub par 200k car. However if i open a thread about ferrari maintenance cost that will sound retarded and just plainly wasting time since filthy rich ppl usually dont visit forum. They just buy and drive ^^

You wouldn't believe me if I say this... but this guy still got savings every month about RM 300 to RM 350 (sometimes more or so... says he). I really don't know how he did it. But then looking at his lifestyle I guess it is possible.

Just imagine... you never go clubbing... you never go to cinema (in his view those stuff are considered taboo or not recommended by his religion.. stuff like that).

He got no Astro and not even a TV in his house (got one friend during my university time.. also like that. Parents working as lecturers in USM... forbid TV as they say TV is the root of most social problems now).

Only thing good in his house to me is his high-speed internet, a desktop computer and big LCD for PES with PS3.

Normal house but a slick looking 350Z in his garage.

While RM 1,700 definitely not enough for us... I see it serves him well enough. It all boils down to what kind of lifestyle we lead after all.

We like to hold friendly conversation about religion especially concerning Christianity and Islam... and there's this time we reach a topic about modesty and leading a simple life based on religion. I remember him saying something along the lines of..

"I live with the expectation that we will never be able to get everything we want in our life. So instead of aiming for everything.. better cars, better houses, better clothing, better watches, better phone and so on... I strive for one or two things that is what I really really want in my life... and then stay simple with other wants and desires in my life."

"What I like is a good wife and a great car.. and I have them now. So I'll go very slow with other aspect of my life."

True enough... he only uses a cheap RM80 Nokia phone instead of a fancy iPhone and Blackberry as opposed to me and other people. And his appetite hardly knows KFC and McDonalds.

Which is why I really respect him. smile.gif Coz I know I can never lead such a life at all. And I doubt any of you can. At least one McDonalds for me every three days... biggrin.gif

And this is all while he is still young. Teachers do make lots of money over the course of their life. If they rise through the rank and become important people in school (like penolong kanan) and later headmaster... their salary increases is quite high. And rise through the rank is common. Very rare to see teach retire still as normal teacher.

Then they got that unique payment (I don't know what it is called... but something like gravity or gratifiti or watever... my little sister is a teacher so i know a bit of this)... you literally won't have a single loan left unpaid once you received this money. Huge amount I think. But a lot of retires got dupe into business... pity them.

Not necessarily. Got some kiddos from image marketing aka MLM... make a huge backdoor loan and bought a Ferrari F430. And then got lots of headache about not enough money to maintain.

Later got no money to pump fuel at all and after three months... their cars are up on sale through 'sambung bayar procedure'. cool2.gif

But if you use Evo.. definitely no Ron 95. That much I know...

Evo really can't use RON95 ?

Coz I've seen EVO owners pump RON 95 at Petrol station.

AFAIK all EVO pre X model were 4G63 ? So shouldn't be a problem ?

hmmm
evo price definitely exceed my annual income sleep.gif
but i thinking of saving up and give like around 20-30% down payment so monthly instalment wont be overkill
well, see how it goes
any real life situation on driving evo?
anyone driving evo willing to share how does it feel like in term of maintenance cost etc, trouble with police etc?/...you know, real life situation instead of hypothetical one

Well also less hurting on pocket
And you can use RON95 + Octane Booster or Water Injection to compensate for the lower RON rating fuel icon_idea.gif
Hell with that way you can run same or higher boost/timing then RON97 alone biggrin.gif
@TS,a suggestion for you...
Visit zerotohundred.com and ask in the Lancer Evolution Owners Club section
Also another good source would be lancerregister.net/evolutionm.net
And if your budget is constrained, why not look into older EVO?You can pick up EVO VII for like 100k,EVO VIII for like 115-130k and EVO VIII MR for a bit more icon_rolleyes.gif
If you need to know detailed difference between EVO,can PM me smile.gif

Stock 4G63T boost is about 1.3-1.4bar and taper down a bit at top end
This applies to EVO IV+ 4G63
As for HP,the main weaklink is actually con rod bolt
Suggested torque to stick to with stock bottom end is about 425-450ft/lb
HP wise depend on turbo selection, octane, tuner etc

only got experience with evo 7 gta-spec not long ago, very good car, average fc (if dont drive like mad dog lah)....

power is slightly less than a "normal" evo, but still enough to vroom vroom with rx8, scirocco, 3-series or those turbocharged wira on the highway and Genting without any problem......

the owner of this car is letting go at RM90k ++
