QUOTE(snowdrop89 @ Jul 22 2011, 01:47 PM) me too, i'm using galaxy tab, there's the purple phone icon on the top, is there anyway to make it go away? n does it affect battery? i asked this before.. settings page, uncheck display notification icon.. and yes... since it's a background running app instead of push messages, it WILL drain batt life despite what they say in their official website.... not that i believe advertisements like that always also... |

QUOTE(Viber @ Jul 24 2011, 03:49 PM) - About the battery drain: are you sure you isolated Viber in order to determine that this is the certain cause for your battery drain? We tested it here in our labs with several devices and except for when making a call (when it is natural for the battery to be used), we didn't notice any significant battery drain. First of all is Viber using Push notifications or C2MD? - We are discussing adding an "Exit" button in the near future. We will keep you posted on that. Exit button is a must for android... since multitask is our double-edged weapon.... Also consider making the app Apps2SD able if you have not... QUOTE(Viber @ Jul 24 2011, 06:56 PM) - We support C2DM. It requires of course a Google account associated with your Androd and Android 2.2 or above. Recently there have been some glitches with C2DM. That's probably due to the huge number of people who downloaded Viber only within a few days, and we're checking it at the moment. nice.... i'll be happy to reinstall your product back anytime once i confirm there's no battery drain... which i havent personally tested it out myself....- Exit button is being discussed these days and will hopefully be implemented very soon. - Support for SD cards is something we are considering. I will keep you posted should we have any news |

QUOTE(Viber @ Jul 24 2011, 10:36 PM) You said you tested this battery drain - haha... that i dont know im not a app dev... i dont know bout batt drain... i only read what other people say.. i didnt test it out specifically and record down like how long and how much it is drained... but i left it on for one night and of course the battery is drained after a night's sleep so i didnt confirm exactly is it really draining alot... but since other people says it is.. i rather not take the risk....Can you try and be more specific as to WHY you suffer from such harsh battery drain? What does Viber do that other apps don't? why is this battery drain caused? thanks for reading all the feedback though.... This post has been edited by HeartRoxas: Jul 25 2011, 12:51 AM |

QUOTE(Viber @ Jul 25 2011, 03:50 PM) All, i cant wait =) good luck..We are investigating the battery drain issue and will hopefully be able to fix it soon. Please make sure you "isolate" Viber in regards to the battery issue, and also - soon we'll release a newer version to Market that is expected to better when it comes to battery consumption. |

i left my viber on for the wholeday... did not exit the app at all... and left it monitor for 24 hours... here's what i come up with...
HTC Desire, MIUI-Au 1.7.29 Phone left idle and i go to sleep 6-8 hours... WiFi, 3G all off and kill apps clear cache before locking the phone and sleep (yes im seriously testing it so i follow the exact steps) without viber - 3-5% drained with viber - 4-6% drained phone normal usage whole day battery draining speed is SAME as olden days... used battery monitoring system i have in my MIUI ROM, comparing 3 alternate message apps viber taking up 1%, whatsapp 1%, liveprofile 1% for whole day... no difference... all of the three did not receive or sent any.... NOTE: i did not even EXIT Viber... so push/C2DM is working... i think i can start using viber now i dont see any HUGE difference in battery life... Never compare to whatsapp/live profile if you call using viber.. they simply do not have call service and of course talking through phone will consume battery.... That is all... i hope more people can test it out seriously and get rid of any false assumptions or misunderstandings... Cheers, YK |

QUOTE(Viber @ Aug 3 2011, 03:43 PM) @HeartRoxas lol my test is without WiFi connection and also Data Plan... so i dont think my test is valid enough yet... because i seem to notice viber, and other alternate messaging apps i mentioned above tend to not use any battery at all when there is no connection... when there is connection then we'll have to see how frequent the app is used... Thanks for your detailed test and report. I will be able to refer many users here to your message in order to see a thorough test based on empirical details Added on August 3, 2011, 10:48 pm Hi everyone, I'm excited to announce that according to preliminary results, it seems as though we managed to find and fix the collision problem of Viber with CM7 and MIUI ROMs (and possible the rest as well) Both these ROMs "change" the device's identity (virtually, of course), preventing Viber from adapting itself correctly to the device's microphone configuration. This is why most of you with ROMs experienced the one-side audio issue. Anyway - we are working on adding a fix to the new version that will hopefully be officially released next week to Market. Updates soon, Viber. so my testing is not detail let alone professional... but the fact that i do not have to EXIT the app with battery life still draining the same is something though... Im glad that viber is reading and supporting whatever we voiced out.. that itself can mean the best software out there already.. after all feedback and replies is the best for us customers.... Cheers, YK P/S:Im using MIUI and your patch is a good news.. i dont face that always but at times yes... |

QUOTE(kuro0314 @ Aug 6 2011, 02:10 PM) lets say i have viber, my friend has viber we using viber as a platform to call or we still need our own individual sim in order to make call? You will need sim cause you will need a number to be called or messaged to... viber needs wifi or 3g... so if you have unlimited 3g connection.. no charges will be done except your normal monthly subscription fee... viber to viber is free nonetheless but any charges you need for internet connection is not covered... it is like using skype with streamyx.. you call free but you pay monthly streamyx bill....Basically without wifi, using 3g it will cost charges base on the teleco plan? kind of confusing here sorry |

QUOTE(michael9413 @ Aug 12 2011, 10:23 AM) i'm using Desire Z from Maxis seriously dont compare these two apps... viber can call... whatsapp cannot... and whatsapp is not that good... i have apps which consume same amount of battery life... even faster messaging response.. and can do everything whatsapp can do.. do not need to exit also... and it's free... if you pay RM1 for a roti canai... and i dont have to pay any to have a higer class one.. which one would you prefer then??with custom Kernal OC to 1.5GHz (max) (2.6.35.13-virtuous-sense-v3.1.0), currently OC to 1.2Ghz (On Demand), screen sleep back to normal 800Mhz... ROM is most current Rooted Gingerbread ROM (Build 2.42.405, Virtuous V2.0)) from HTC customised by Virtuous group... Baseband is 12.28e.60.140fu..... yea now i need to exit after i use it... but no such problem with whatsapp... i'm willing to pay few ringgit and get back my battery life... btw that few ringgit just enough for you to have a light breakfast now... so no need to say it is free or not... is like you pay RM1 for a normal roti canai and paying RM2 for a higher class one and also taste better which you would prefer??? besides.. i dont exit my viber... i dont see any drain...
