Bleh... the GDDR5 version. In terms of raw power where memory is not really a concern, the GDDR3 one is still more powerful due to the increase number of stream processors and memory bandwidth.

o.O.... it's i5?
*
Yes Intel Core i5-2410M, but remember this notebook SKU is only for the Philippines. Most likely in Malaysia it will be Intel Core i7-2630QM to compete with the offerings of ASUS, Lenovo, and HP. If this was offered in the Philippines with Intel Core i7-2630QM then I'm sure it would be priced much higher.

QUOTE(Trance4eva @ Jul 24 2011, 01:26 PM)
for gaming i5 is still consider ok.....might not be in the future though cause more games might use CPU Processing power like Black Ops
*
Actually I was hoping that the Intel Core i5-2410M model be made available for this configuration here in Malaysia so that the price could be cheaper. Also the Intel Core i5-2410M should run much cooler and be less prone to thermal throttling than the Intel Core i7-2630QM especially in games (due to less number of cores).

Another thing, the Intel Core i5-2410M has a higher base speed than the Intel Core i7-2630QM so if both processors are under high temperature (and both are throttling down) the Core i5 might end up running faster than the Core i7 (?)

Intel Core i7-2630QM
- Base speed (normal) = 2.0GHz
- Max turbo speed using 1 core = 2.9 GHz
- Max turbo speed using 2 cores = 2.8 GHz
- Max turbo speed using 4 cores = 2.6 GHz

Intel Core i5-2410M
- Base speed (normal) = 2.3GHz
- Max turbo speed using 1 core = 2.9 GHz
- Max turbo speed using 2 cores = 2.6 GHz

I guess for gaming, notebook cooling of the CPU (and GPU) should be very good to prevent throttling down issues...

You're right, according to Anandtech the GDDR3 version of the Geforce GT 555M has more CUDA cores, TMU's, and ROP's hmm.gif

I guess the Geforce GT 555M GDDR5 version in the MSI should perform better than the Geforce GT 540M but also perform slightly less than the Geforce GT 555M GDDR3 version. This is still ok because MSI is making this particular laptop SKU available to compete with the likes of:

- Lenovo Y470, Y570
- ASUS N53Sn (and upcoming replacement model)
- HP DV4 and HP DV6 with Radeon HD 6750, and 6770 (respectively)

The GT555M GDDR5 version is basically a faster GT540M. Same chip, just faster memory.

The N53 replacement unit will come equipped with a GT555M which is most probably the GDDR3 version.

how can a GT540M OC to a GT555M speed.
GT555M and GT540M has a quite huge performance gap.

GT540M has a Memory Bus Width of 128bit while GT555M is 192bit
also GT540M has 96SP while GT555M has 144SP

GT555M Type B is equipped with GDDR5 instead of the GDDR3 found in the GT525M, GT540M and GT550M. Other than that and clock and memory speed, everything else is the same.

The GT555M Type A is using GDDR3 which has the 192 bit bus and 144 SP.
