QUOTE(firdaus934 @ May 27 2012, 11:07 AM) offer to monash.(given that they have done mufy) just another info.the offer was mailed to them before mufy, stating that upon completion of mufy, the offer can be used when applying to monash. this is rather new to me. the conditional offers that I know of are when applying into Monash directly, and not when you're just applying for MUFY. basically what a conditional offer is is that you'll need to maintain your grades above a certain average for either the first 1 or 2 semesters.

QUOTE(CookieGhoul @ Jul 2 2012, 05:02 PM) Depends really on the courses. I daresay some courses like ENG1091 (Maths) and ENG1060 (Computing) would have higher percentage of students getting HD. Monash does not follow bell curve grading system. There aren't any "challenging" lecturers as far as I know, because at the end of the day, classes which have a low pass percentage would reflect a bit bad towards the lecturer. In Monash the grade thresholds are quite clear. Also, at the end of the day, many of the exam papers are set in Clayton, with some help from the Malaysian lecturers (this happens for Engineering at least). Yes, Monash does do the bell curve. And guess what? your current PVC had been famous in Clayton before when he was there as a lecturer years ago for flunking an entire class.

QUOTE(CookieGhoul @ Jul 3 2012, 08:29 AM) What ? Really ? Lol sorry I had no idea . My mistake. Flunking an entire class ? Wow. Why did he do that aiks! should be Caulfield, not Clayton. He used to take on one of the Statistics subjects for Marketing over there. Let's just say, he's kinda inflexible on incredibly high standards.

QUOTE(johnconnor @ Jul 6 2012, 08:08 PM) Which faculty/ies employ the bell-shape curve system? What is PVC? Would you mind elaborating? Thank you for taking the trouble to reply my post. PVC is Pro Vice Chancellor. All faculties does the bell-curve actually. However how they stretch the curve also depends on the faculty, and also on the subject itself. For instance, one of the 2nd year CS subjects used to have the curve stretched towards the passing side, as without scaling, you're bound to get like 95% failures for that subject. So its stretched to only have 20% or so failures.

QUOTE(MaxReddevil @ Jul 8 2012, 05:04 PM) Sigghhh good results for me except for one which i got a 48 (N), is it possible for me to apply for supplementary? since it is the last unit before i graduate? if its a non core subject, they might allow you a NP and allow you to graduate. if its a core subject, then its quite a big tougher.

QUOTE(fuchsia @ Jul 10 2012, 06:12 AM) Is it true that it is difficult to pass in Monash? depends on the subject Added on July 10, 2012, 8:31 amQUOTE(VinceCheong @ Jul 10 2012, 02:01 AM) What happens if i have 2 lecture that clashes from the units I've enrolled in? Money & Capital Market and Youth Media? It's so annoying, and I don't wanna re-enroll to a different unit... it's gonna screw up my own course planning =.= Failed papers are already automatically remarked. That's why there's no requests for remarks in Monash. This post has been edited by malleus: Jul 10 2012, 08:31 AM

QUOTE(VinceCheong @ Jul 10 2012, 04:24 PM) What you mean? I believe you didn't directly replied to my post i presume... opps sorry, think I replied to the wrong post. In any case, to your question, either you take one of the subjects in another semester, or you decide which lecture to skip each week. Get buddies from each subject who can fill you in on what you missed too

QUOTE(melvin471 @ Jul 10 2012, 11:34 PM) So my only chance is to appeal for grace mark.. I have emailed the chief examiner and the faculty course manager but none replied yet. :/ 48% is so close to passing, failing someone just because of 2% to passing just does not make any sense. They should try to remark and find where can I gain an extra 2 marks in the paper. every failed paper is already automatically remarked. if its still a fail, then it means that they cannot find anywhere to give you that 2 marks. Added on July 11, 2012, 1:14 amQUOTE(melvin471 @ Jul 11 2012, 12:11 AM) This sucks man. If they wont pass me, my average mark will be drastically low plus I was hoping to exchange to aus. :/ And the failed subject will cost 4k..... dang. if I'm not mistaken, I don't think it'll effect your average mark, or at least it didn't used to. if you retake the subject and pass, then the passing mark will be the one taken towards your average. QUOTE(melvin471 @ Jul 11 2012, 01:26 AM) May I know how you know about how the marking works? know it from the lecturers who mark the papers. that's the policy they all adhere to. that's also why there's no such thing as a request for remark in Monash. QUOTE(satsugai @ Jul 11 2012, 08:20 AM) 48% does not mean that you got a 48%. It the mark they return to everyone who has failed a subject. There's no way to know what your actual marks are except by reviewing your paper and adding the marks with your internals. I've had friends who've checked their papers in the hopes of getting a pass, but alas, life aint all sunshine and rainbows Just move on man(apply to check your paper just to be sure), learn your lesson and work your ass offf next sem. also learn from the review on where you had gone wrong during the exam.

QUOTE(ariccheong @ Jul 22 2012, 04:36 PM) any graduates from business and commerce here? im looking for some help in selecting electives! or any 1 could recommend any electives? am lookin for units preferably easy and score-able to pull my average >< thanks! I was from Comp Sci, and have done electives from biz&comm. pretty interesting to do some cross discipline subjects. I won't exactly recommend just doing subjects that's easier to score, but prefer to do subjects that's more useful. some recommended 1st year subjects: - management - business law - accounting If you're looking for something easy to score, the e-commerce subjects are dead easy, but I personally think they're a waste of money

QUOTE(ariccheong @ Jul 24 2012, 12:48 PM) perhaps any one taken fit1030 before? planing to take that as it seem to be an easy unit? From the description, it does sound like one of the 1st year ecommerce subjects. and yes, it would be a rather easy subject, so the question to ask yourself is, is it worth paying for that subject.

QUOTE(cckkpr @ Nov 12 2013, 09:10 PM) Don't Clayton and Sunway sit for the same papers? You did your final year in Clayton. Did it made a difference in your employment prospects? this largely depends on the actual course that you're doing. cause some courses have subjects from other campuses like gippsland or caulfield and not clayton. although they're supposed to be standardising on all of these
