QUOTE(joeyap @ Jul 28 2011, 10:11 PM) Hi, after i downloaded the .apk file into my PC harddisk, how do I use it? You just need copy the apk file into your phone , say ext SD card - tap the apk file and the app will self install. You cannot install the apk file on PC and transfer over. Please do read up some basics of android as apparently you are really unfamiliar how android works. Checkup the sticky threads in the main Android forum for the basic guidelinesWhen I double click on it, it ask what software do i want to open it with help pls. Added on July 28, 2011, 11:32 pm QUOTE(damnreaper @ Jul 28 2011, 10:20 PM) need help from all the sifu here.. still noob bout flashing..huhu.. I have mentioned countless times that if you start to root and flash, don't even think about warranty. By installing CWN, you have already change your kernel. Even though you can restore back your original rom - your kernel is still based on CF Rooti already gain root using cf-root, now i wanna flash Lite'ning Rom.. backup using cwm, is it sufficient backup for me if i wanna send back to warranty? I am not trying to discourage users from root/flash - I find this phobia of warranty persists. If you want to root/flash - you mest be mentally prepared that warranty is void. If you cannot accept this, than don't root and flash. My experience ( 5 times ) in dealing with Samsung Service center and 2 times with HTC and one time with Apple - all my submits to claim were based on rooted/flash/jailbreak and in ALL occasions I never faced any problem claiming repairs/replacement/services - all are FOC. But mentally I am prepare to pay for any costs incurred. If I can get all these claims done FOC - it is a bonus Most recent is just last week - I help to send in my friend Galaxy Tab to KL Service Centre - his Tab was rooted and after flashing a cook rom and a trial kernel resulting in a lot of problems - battery drain, hard to switch on etc ; the center still process it and reflash a new rom free. When I send it in, I told the staff honestly what he has done , all his trial kernel and rom flashing. Infact I tell the same story too of rooting and flashing when I sent in to Spore Center 3 times for my ex Galaxy S and all 3 ocassions done free and my set is bought AP in LowYat KL ! QUOTE(kazama82 @ Jul 29 2011, 09:37 AM) i search thru last post by uncle benny. how to backup your rom.i found below step Depend which version look for backup under Nandroid or at Advanced1. Use Titanium Backup to backup all your apps/data 2. Use Odin to flash Chaimfire CF4 - this will root and install a Clockworkmod recovery 3. Boot to recovery and select backup 4. Than only proceed flash whatever rom but problem is when i reboot CWM recovery, there are no options for backup..when i enter normal CWM menu, it shows backup..when i select backup, it just reboot to CWM recovery, and show same menu..reboot, wipe data/factory reset but not backup rom... Added on July 29, 2011, 9:46 amUse hard buttons to go into recovery. Sometimes the cwm app not compatible with some roms This post has been edited by benny888: Jul 29 2011, 09:46 AM |

QUOTE(Angelpoli @ Jul 29 2011, 11:27 AM) hmm, i read all the infos on first page already but still didn't see anything about upgrading the sgs2 firmware except rooting it and then update it. but my sgs2 is not rooted and currently has baseband version DXKF1. the build number is XWKF1. how can i update my sgs2 without rooting it? thanks. If you do not wish to root, your only option is :-Update it thro KIES - this is very slow and the updates are also very backdated when available. You will only know whether your firmware can have a later update by just connecting it to PC and launch KIES. Example now is already at KG3. Most probably your nextupdate will only be KF2 or KF3 or KF4. KG series is most unlikely The power of root : Analogous you have a BMW 525i car but inside is only a 1600 cc engine. Root it and unleash the 2500 ccc power inside it This post has been edited by benny888: Jul 29 2011, 11:45 AM |

QUOTE(mydragoon @ Jul 29 2011, 11:51 AM) hmmmm... this is what i get when i check my phone info... Is NORMAL - it just shows the source of the kernel ; the word root does not mean it is rootedmy phone is unrooted... so wondering if the line marked red is normal. we can't update the firmware direct from the phone? as in... settings --> about phone --> software update. another Q... i noticed when i click applications icon... some of the pages have got an empty box. i tot it would auto populate the boxes? adding another Q... how to know what is the latest firmware? is it published on Samsung site? You can update firmware ( if available ) through KIES ; if you are lucky you can get it done within an hour ; if you are unlucky it can drag several hours as KIES is stiill very buggy and its performance is heavily affected by your 3rd party installations in your PC. Unless you are tech savvy and has the time to troubleshoot , you can remove those 3rd party software affecting it. Some guys puirposely format their PC just to get KIES working perfectly to update their phone firmware You can look it up at www.samfirmware.com - you need to register to access site and view firmware listing and download |

QUOTE(alvin_lee @ Jul 29 2011, 01:49 PM) Hi all, i am new to Android, Please read first my tips on flashing : page 1 post # 5Just to check: should i Root the HP first ot should i flash the Lighting ROM to 4.2 Version? Rom is same as firmware? thanks If you have read Litening 4.2 features - it is clearly described ROOT is part of the feature ; so you need not root first to flash it. After flash, your phone will auto be rooted ROM is used interchangeably with firmware ; actually more appropriate term here is firmware |
