hi everyone,
new Asus N43SL owner here

there are few questions that would like to clarify
1) the noise of optical drive when starting the lappy is quite noisy... before the ASUS logo shows in the screen... anyone have this situation?

2) saw that some says that by updating BIOS of N43SL, it can last up to 8 hours battery, is it true? can specify which BIOS version is that??

3) another silly question, how to check my boot time? any program to detect it?

4) my lappy seem a bit slow and around 90 processes running, how to make it faster/reduce number of processes running?

regards

2) The latest bios.
3) To check boot time http://www.planetsoft.org/utils/BootTimer.exe
4) To reduce processes, open msconfig, on startup tab, disable stuff you don't need.
and do defrag..

1)it's normal cause sometimes it enable and disable the optical drive. When it does that it make sound.

2) Can download latest BIOS at Asus web. Just search for your laptop model and click download

3) Download BootTimer.

4) Follow the guide on the 1st page.

thanks everyone,

1) check on the bootup program, around 74 seconds, is it normal?? Attached Image
with minimum startup programs, after ccleaner, defrag... Attached Image

2) check on Asus website, there are 5 BIOS version there, which is the correct one? and heard that updating BIOS might cause lappy to bye-bye. wanna confirm before doing so whistling.gif

Not sure about the lights.

Yeah, that's the icon, when you run programs that need nVidia, that program will be listed on that icon when you hover it..

Open Power4Gear, there you can set the taskbar to autohide or not..
The white wallpaper is under power saving wallpaper.

Flashing during random situation or ?
*
i think he mean when changing power plan to power saver, it will flash few times before changing the wallpaper to white color and hiding taskbar
hopefully it is normal whistling.gif

even after manually set on global settings fo nvidia, program settings by choosing which program to use nvidia
but the icon below still show none program using
does this mean i failed to manually set nvidia setting??

however, if i open warcraft, the icon show it is using nvidia
this mean it working perfectly right?

just curious why im unable to set it myself hmm.gif

You count using boottimer or own timer ?
mod what ? Mine around 17000k-19000k..
Use HWMonitor or OpenHardwareMonitor..
That one just made all the software listed there to use nVidia. Not all the program running at your computer at the moment will be using nVidia.
*
yup
from global settings, i manually choose nvidia as perferred GPU but none program use as well
even at program settings, i manually choose nvidia as perferred GPU but that program not using nvidia as well
but if play games, it will be automatically using nvidia hmm.gif
