Rather than actively creating light, the quantum dot films developed by Nanosys effectively work like a phosphor. At this point in time, they are all in prototype, still quite a bit of advancement needed, till then the manufacture would cash in on LED and Plasma

Thus far the best picture display is still CRT, unfortunately its bulky and not environment friendly.

The closest to CRT would be SED and FED, thanks to canon for this.

Lets see, how it progresses...

Be it OLED or Crystal-LED they have self emitting pixel , and therefore susceptible to burn-in.

I do not think LCD will be replaced as a desktop monitor, but perhaps for HDTV.

Plasma uses heated gases to light up the phosphor, laser TV uses laser.

It look bulky to me has to be set-up inwall to look nice, I think just available in industries markets and no info on consumer market yet.
