Key advantage OLED Televisions

Superior Picture Quality
With more vivid, lifelike colors, better representation of fast action video, wider viewing angels, and much higher contrast ratios, Organic light emitting diode Tvs dramatically enhance the viewing experience. Ech frame is sharp, ech detail pops! Thats because this display technology naturally refresh up to a thousand times faster than an LCD. Their color gamut can exceed NTSC standards. And this displays feature almost 180 degree viewing angle and in inherent contrast ratio of > 1.000.000:1.

High Efficiency
This display technology use power more efficiently than existing LCD and PDP HDTVs. With Tvs getting larger, they are becoming an increasingly energy intensive consumer of electricity. Purchasing power efficient Tvs will save money and critical energy resources.

Very thin
Much thinner and lighter weight than existing PDPs and LCDs, this displays can be the thickness of a pane of glass, and with gains made in flexible electronics could get even thinner. They can also be lightweight enough so that even large OLED screens will be easily moved or hung on the wall.

Cost effective
While the first Organic displays hitting the market today are expensive, those prices will fall dramatically as the technology matures and volume ramps. Ultimately, OLED televisions will prove more cost effective because they require fewer materials and fewer processing steps than LCDs and PDPs.

3M to challenge OLED displays with quantum dots
http://optics.org/news/3/6/9
QUOTE
Rather than actively creating light, the quantum dot films developed by Nanosys effectively work like a phosphor. When exposed to blue emission provided by a phosphor-less gallium nitride LED backlight, the dots produce narrow-linewidth red and green light, which can be combined with the original blue emission to generate a high-quality white backlight.

Samsung is pioneering this effort, but there are still some issues for OLED to appear on big TV screen, hence I doubt "real" commercial version anytime before 2013

Prototype rite? Lifespan oso a main issue.

At this point in time, they are all in prototype, still quite a bit of advancement needed, till then the manufacture would cash in on LED and Plasma

Thus far the best picture display is still CRT, unfortunately its bulky and not environment friendly.

The closest to CRT would be SED and FED, thanks to canon for this.

Lets see, how it progresses... thumbup.gif
*
Why CRT is the best? CRT old technology so it sure lost to current LCD and Plasma.

Added on July 13, 2011, 3:57 pmFuture market should be SED, FED(evolve from CRT) vs Oled(evolve from LCD)? Plasma???

Added on July 13, 2011, 4:06 pmany idea Sharp Quattron LED tv adding yellow become YRGB?

I don't think crt can go to 1080 cause it just use single electron gun. maybe SED, FED(evolve from CRT) can la

My Eyes Orgasmed When I Saw the Samsung Super OLED TV

quoted:
The first thing your brain realizes after your eyes recover from the explosive eyegasm is that the picture looks like it's floating in mid air. That's because the bezel is supermodel-who's-not-eaten-in-weeks thin, essentially unnoticeable, letting your picture appear frameless. The blacks are darker than night, the colors are deliciously vivid and to be honest, it looks better than real life. It's the best thing my eyes have ever seen. I want this in my living room so much I seriously considered the legal ramifications if I somehow stole it.

When it's out sometime in 2012, the 55-inch TV will be full 3D and powered by multiple cores. Oh god, I can't wait. happy.gif  happy.gif  happy.gif

Be it OLED or Crystal-LED they have self emitting pixel , and therefore susceptible to burn-in.

I do not think LCD will be replaced as a desktop monitor, but perhaps for HDTV.

LCD also will dead pixel and water/burn mark la.

not dead pixel lar.. its about uneven pixel aging.

LCD pixel doesnt emit light so they wont  AGE .

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Defective_pixel

Variations

Dark dot defects
A dark dot defect is usually caused by a transistor in the transparent electrode layer that is stuck "on" for TN panels or "off" for MVA/PVA and IPS panels. In that state, the transistor places the liquid crystal material in such a way that no light ever passes through to the RGB layer of the display.

Bright dot defects
A bright dot defect[3] is a group of three sub-pixels (one pixel) all of whose transistors are "off" for TN panels or stuck "on" for MVA/PVA panels. This allows all light to pass through to the RGB layer, creating a bright white pixel that is always on. This is commonly known as a "hot pixel".
