my Desire S is alive again! brought it to SIS (plaza berjaya) on monday, they said the turnaround time is 3 days. but today (tuesday), they sms-ed me saying that it's ready to be collected.

they changed the motherboard on my Desire S. so happy that it only took them a day to fix it biggrin.gif

nice man, btw, did you ask about the Wifi death grip? would they fix it too?

Mine here is AP too, I guess it's cheaper. You can only get it from Maxis at the moment. Some might be selling the ori set, but u have to find it yourself.

Regrading phone cant be start problem, I guess you better go for the warranty. My phone is great and running without any problems, I guess maybe u got a faulty unit.

Anyhow, I would suggest u guys to update your phone and then make a factory reset. Clear all files and start it like a new phone. I thinks it is more stable that way.

Yea i don't OC myself. Just underclock and undervolt a bit. But doesn't seem to give much effect.

MIUI is pretty and has useful built in apps. No app drawer so you have to put them in folders.

I like CM7 for the CM settings. MIUI don't have that.

Just try both. See what you like and maybe stick with it. tongue.gif

TS is here wink.gif

btw, if u want to get a new sdcard, get the one with higher class... better read and write speed.

p.s. I'm using virtuous unity ROM now, and it's fast and awesome, just some tiny bugs haven't fix yet. Might wanna try MIUI ROM someday too, but it's too iphone like to me.. and it';s not completely stable yet.

Welcome New Desire S user!!!, we need more people here to make this active, I see too few Desire S users in here... It's a great phone, should recommended to anyone out there!

Just gotten my phone back.. all seems to working just fine except that i cant hard reset by pressing volume down + power button anymore... dont know why lerr...
*
To hard reset your phone, you need to press "Volume up" + "Volume down" + "power button".

To boot up your device to hboot, you press "Volume down" + "power button" while you phone is shutted down. (You need to untick fastboot in settings and then shut down your phone)

So, don't get confused... hope this helps.

Added video tutorial on first page, thanks.

Glad to see more Desire S users, I'm currently using Virtuous ROM, which is a great ROM and stable.

MIUI ROM is still buggy as far as I know, you might need to sacrifice some functions. However, you can still try it, it is still quite stable.

CynogenMOD got its official support, you guys might want to try that awesome ROM.

Any more questions please ask, thanks...

You can always use a custom ROM with sense 3.0 or 3.5.... No point waiting for the official one haha...

QUOTE(robeng @ Nov 1 2011, 11:45 AM)
anyone had successfully installed this 'Virtuous Unity Sense 3.0 based on Pyramid' ROM? How's the performance? Better than stock?

this is my first time to try install custom rom to my desire. do i need to root my device or just turn to s-off only?

is it a must to root using Gingerbreak if i want to backup all my data and apps? is there any other way coz im bit confuse the gingerbreak process.

Hope to get some feedbacks. Sorry for my noobs. smile.gif
*
Custom ROM usually outperform the stock ROM, I used Virtuous ROM before and it was worth it. But now I'm using hyperion ROM, which is good also.

You DO NOT need to root your device to install custom ROM, no gingerbreak and anything..... "All you need is S-OFF"...

After S-OFF, you get to install custom ROM, and custom ROM is pre-root. Means, after flashing a custom ROM, your phone will be rooted.

Just follow my guide on first page man.

Surprisingly, only very few malaysian would appreciate this phone, this is really an awesome phone for mid-range. I don't have any problems with it.

QUOTE(squarepilot @ Feb 1 2012, 11:19 PM)
because the retail price of this phone is rm 1599

where the actual market price is only around rm1000-1200

cheers icon_rolleyes.gif

hmm it happens last week but this week appears fine to me. very weird. but i'm not surprising that it will restart another time, cause even samsung gs2 or gw have this problem. symbian still rocks yo

try to restart the phone by yourself

or turn it off for 5 min then on it back
*
Something is wrong with either your phone or the firmware. I never experience this kind of problem ever since sense 3.0 and now using sense 3.5 custom ROM, everything runs well.

errr what do you mean by browser ya bro?
my problem is that the system keep asking for default launcher (in my case Sense & Go Launcher) even I've clear default...any advice bro?
Thanx
*
bro, you can't have 2 launchers running at a same time, choose one launcher that you like and make it as default. It won't ask u the same questions again. If you clear default, there will be no default launcher therefore, it keeps asking u to select one. Hope you know what I meant.

muslayer,
Did you put your phone to S-OFF? Done any rooting? or it's straight up original? Anyway, I didn't have that problem.

Hmm, maybe a full reset on your phone? btw, it's good to flash a custom ROM, more tweaks and more stable. IMO. wink.gif

I have a question to ask. My hboot version is 2.000.0002, S-ON, and reading over the first page, it mentioned that Revolutionary only works for hboot 0.98.0002?

Is there a way to root my phone and still be able to use custom roms while still maintaining my hboot version?

I've had this phone for almost a year now and I finally have the balls to try to root it hahahah.

Some help is very much appreciated biggrin.gif
-==EDIT==-

I manage to do it heh. Just would like to know which ROM(s) are you all using (for those who rooted their phones, of course)

Thanks!

I'm using Virtuous ROM from www.virtuousrom.com It's stable and working great.

Now that you've rooted your stock ROM, you can now install the recovery.

Backup first your stock ROM using the recovery just in case you want to go back. And then go ahead format the phone and install whatever ROM you want. The backup is in your SD card so it's safe there.

I'm using MIUI 4 since i personally like it. Still not perfectly stable though.
*
Hey man, what bugs did u encounter with MIUI4? I feel like giving it a try but scare not stable enough for everyday use....

Just some random freezes. Most of the time it's ok though. Everything seems to work.

After using custom ROM i doubt you'll want to go back hehe... but you can still install it back if you want. I think there's a thread where they compile stock rooted ROM somewhere on XDA.
*
Cool... Btw, I kinda like the wallpapers in MIUI 4 ROM... can you upload for me? lol...

i wonder, what is the most stable ics rom to date? I doesn't matter whether it's aosp, sense, miui, etc.. as long as it's ics.  hmm.gif
*
MIUI I guess... There are no bugs in the bug lists.... as u can see, there are some bugs on most sense roms. AOSP should be quite stable by now...

i wanna buy this hp and someone wanna sell to me with price rm500, but the condition of this already S-off and now the software have change to ICS4.0.3 htc one software. Is it good? please let me know bcos i dont know much in this things .
*
ICS is not stable on our phone yet... most probably wifi hotspot not working... fortunately, u can always flash another ROM since its already S-Off... so no worries about that rom the phone's using... phone condition that matters...
