I personally think that it will be nicer if you sprayed the sides to match the grill. More "Ori" looking.

No offense bro but if you buy a car to get glances from people, then you are really buying a car for the wrong reasons. Because of the 2doors tax structure in Malaysia, you are paying a lot more for a Roc than what it is actually worth. Just pop over to Sg (or any other parts of the world) and you will realize that the GTI is held in higher regards to the Roc 2.0 in both performance and prestige.
Added on August 17, 2011, 11:50 pmTell people that you paid about the same money for a Roc 1.4 vs the GTI and you will probably get even more "glances". This post has been edited by Gti23: Aug 17 2011, 11:50 PM |

Yeah. The Roc is indeed very sexy looking. I might be tempted to buy a Roc if it wasn't for the damn 2-door tax. Anyways, glad that you are happy with your ride.

QUOTE(omichael @ Aug 18 2011, 09:12 PM) I also chose a Golf over a Scirocco for the same reason. Well, to each his own but I am in the opinion that style over substance is never a good thing. Especially if you are paying so much more for "style". However, if that is how you roll, I am happy that you are happy. But it's not fair to say you're buying a car for the "wrong reason" just because you want people to look at you. Who's to say what is right or wrong? Some people want style. Some people want power. Some people want economy. For example if you're the kind of person who only wants to get from A - B, then you can also say buying a GTI is a waste of money. Better get a TSI instead. Plus we're not in SG, we're in Malaysia. And the reality here is, a Scirocco gets more glances and admiration from the layman than ANY kind of Golf, whether it's a TSI, a GTI or even an R. Everyone buys a car to get from point A to point B. Buying a car with "substance" will get you there faster or gives you a more pleasurable drive. If you are not into cars and everything a great car has to offer, then I don't see a point in this discussion. Might as well just buy a cheap 2nd hand car. In regardless of where we are in the world, a GTI will always be seen as a more complete car than the Roc especially if it is RM30k cheaper! If getting more glances and admiration from the layman floats your boat, then what have I got to say? To me, it is always better to get glances and admiration from people in the know than the average layman. For example, buy a Rolex to impress the layman (or ppl who knows nuts about watches) or buy a Panerai to impress those who are in the know. I certainly know where I want to belong. |

QUOTE(omichael @ Aug 20 2011, 12:59 AM) Funny that you say to each his own, and proceed to sound like a snobbish motoring Nazi right after. "By the way there's not that many roc's on the road. I always get glances from people every time I got out of my car. Can't say the same for GTI's since there's a lot of them on the road."As I clearly said, I too own a Golf. For me personally, the inflated price for style was not worth it. The difference between us is I'd rather not judge those who choose the Scirocco. Because from my perspective, I can see the merit of both performance and aesthetics. Who are you to say Scirocco buyers are making an unwise choice? All that matters is how satisfied they are with their purchase. It doesn't make you any smarter or more sophisticated than them. Wow, so you buy a car solely to get compliments from enthusiasts? I guess you go to the track every weekend then? Are all your friends, family members and co-workers hardcore motoring enthusiasts? Won any motor sport trophies lately? Remember you're on the LYN VW thread. It's a thread for enthusiasts and casual drivers alike. So accept the reality that a "car" has many different ways of making people feel good. To many, that feel good factor comes from the random glances they get on the street and the compliments they get from their friends (which they wouldn't be getting if they had chosen the common and plain-looking GTI.) BTW, I know where I want to belong too - and it's definitely not with my head in the clouds, thinking I'm better than everyone else I think you are getting this all very wrong. I was reacting to the above statement made by double7 in his original post which kinda demeans the GTI and implied that style is more important than substance. Yes, I did say to each his own but that does not mean that I can't air my opinion. Your analogy of a Nazi Is most ironic as they do not take kindly to opinions. So, who is the Nazi? I never did say that I am smarter or more sophisticated than Roc buyers. I personally love the Roc! You are arguing out of context. I am just saying that to buy a car so that people could admire your car is not the best reason to buy a car. We should buy a car because we like the car for it's performance, styling, etc. Buying a car to get glances from strangers seems juvenile to me. You might not agree with me but that is my opinion...and everyone is free to make an opinion...unless you are a Nazi. |

QUOTE(double7 @ Aug 20 2011, 02:41 AM) Dude give it a rest. I already said that the reason I get glances because there's not many rocs on the road and that's the truth. I never said the reason I bought it because I want to get glances. "Yeah. The Roc is indeed very sexy looking. I might be tempted to buy a Roc if it wasn't for the damn 2-door tax. Anyways, glad that you are happy with your ride."Power wise, the 1.4 TSI engine is powerful enough for me. Remember what I wrote after your reply? I have already given it a rest and understand that your original post could be easily misunderstood. However, I must defend my original position when challenged by another Forummer that seems to argue out of context and labeled me as a snobbish Nazi. Added on August 20, 2011, 3:12 am QUOTE(double7 @ Aug 20 2011, 02:59 AM) So true! True story, played zig zag through traffic against a GTI and managed to leave the GTI in the back. The steering and handling is very responsive where I can just dash into gaps and even making 90 degree turns without the rolling feeling. Sigh, just when I thought that you are OK and you go on to make the above statement. Don't you know that it is dangerous to play zig-zag through public roads. What are you trying to proof? I mean that's good enough for me. How often can you speed 200kmh++ (Scirocco on stock 233kmh btw) on Malaysian roads? I rest my case. This post has been edited by Gti23: Aug 20 2011, 03:12 AM |

QUOTE(omichael @ Aug 20 2011, 03:42 AM) Not trying to pick a bone with you mate. And of course everyone is entitled to an opinion. Alright bro. You have your point. It is at rest. I found your tone rather condescending though, which is what prompted me to respond. But to be fair I was pretty rude too. So let's put it to rest. Added on August 20, 2011, 11:31 am QUOTE(double7 @ Aug 20 2011, 03:46 AM) "Buying a car to get glances from strangers seems juvenile to me." Well, if you were indeed buying the car to get glances fom strangers then it is indeed quite a juvenile act but since you are not, then you are not juvenile and I apologize. However, playing zig-zag and racing on public roads suggests otherwise. Please put safety first before your ego. If you want to test your Roc against GTIs, bring it to your local racetrack.Well you're not on the righteous side either by accusing me of buying the car for the above reason and labeling me juvenile at the same time. Can I say you argued out of context as well? This post has been edited by Gti23: Aug 20 2011, 11:31 AM |

QUOTE(double7 @ Aug 20 2011, 11:51 AM) Well in all honesty that was a one time thing. Was bringing my friends and they asked me to chase down that GTI lol. Sure thanks for the advice. Haha. Since we are in the topic of ego, drive safe and enjoy the loving glances from strangers that will help bolster your ego instead of indulging in dangerous street racing. One more jab at ya buddy, if it wasn't for your ego we wouldn't be getting in this argument in the first place |
