it's up to u, coz if one really go slow & steady type, d chances of having bsod is lower. but for those wanna save time & make significant jump, illegal shutdowns are normal. & that will harm ya hdd especially normal platter type. my 2 cents only thou. smile.gif

Hi bro ah_khoo. smile.gif Are you going to get an FX8350 soon? lol that processor caught my attention a bit, but why nobody is anticipating it in this forum? Has everyone left? unsure.gif

vishera does look temptin but am really retired liao. had moved to matx platform for months. with limited choices of am3+ ready mobo over here (sgp) i can't even make a come back... tongue.gif there're still some amd die hard fans over here i supposed, just that they're layin low for d moment...  brows.gif

Ah...didn't know you would retire lol. Afterall, you stayed on after most of us already retired.
Last night, I was looking for M-ATX mobo that has 900-series chipset too. doh.gif It turned out there is none! sweat.gif

Another Vishera. rclxms.gif
Eh...just wondering, why does Gigabyte website doesn't show FX-83x0 as supported CPU with F8 bios?

Still using the good ol Venomous X sweat.gif
Wanna buy SilverArrow SBE but the heatsink is too damn huge, that will definitely obscure my tall ram heatsink.

AMD need to improve their chipset badly too, the SSD is not perform optimally with AMD chipset, if they cant improve their next chipset,
my next rig sure using intel liao doh.gif
*
Why did you say AMD chipset cannot fully utilized ssd performance? How significant is the issue?

Well many benchmark/review site use Intel, so i didnt know either.
here is another proof http://www.anandtech.com/show/2973/6gbps-s...s-intel-x58-p55
about the benchmark i posted, the 4kQD32 bandwidth should be always higher than 4k without QD. and read speed should be near 500mb/s, but not if you are using AMD chipset, the 990X/FX is just a rebrand of older 7xx/8xx chipset with some newer features.

I just need other bros who use AMD mobo with high performance SSD to post some benchies here, me alone isnt enough to backup my claims lol sweat.gif
*
I think the issue is with the Southbridge (SB-950) since that is the SATA controller. I wonder if this issue also happens in Linux?
I don't have a SATA 3 SSD...can't test for you.
Sorry for OT.

A lot had changed since I last overclocked any CPU!
My modest OC so far using stock HSF blush.gif and undervolt the Vcore by 0.1V.

Anyone here using Gigabyte GA-970A series motherboard? I noticed the FSB is not stable after I flashed to F7 BIOS. It will occasionally shoot up to 3-4MHz difference in FSB. shocking.gif

woot!!! nicely done bro... gotta love d volt @ that clock!!! lookin forwards to more awesome results from u...  flex.gif
*
Thanks bro. But no choice, the stock HSF doesn't cut it. I'm now looking at Thermalright Venomous X Black or RT. BTW, you used to own one? How does it compare to your CoolerMaster? Also considering Thermaltake Water 2.0 Pro but afraid the pump cannot last long haha.

How did you monitor the CPU temp? CoreTemp is giving me sub-ambient temp haha. HWinfo64 has two reading, don't know which one is accurate.

3dfx woops...

my cpuvid is 1.3625v ..... what is yours ah_khoo bro...
from what i read higher cpuvid means better oc chips...
*
Haha ya, I did not have any PCI-e graphics card. So, tried with an ancient Voodoo 3. >_<
BTW, your VID is with Turbo enabled or disabled?

Some recent OC after replacing the stock HSF. 4300MHz @ stock Vcore
Looks like my chip is more suitable for downvolting. doh.gif

yo sir .. Are u using amd overdrive to overclock your processor???

Hmm - and i got a question if i am not a serious overclocking user did i need to disable cool&quiet and S1E ?? Or i just leave it enable for power saving.
*
Normally I use BIOS to OC because I want the setting to be intact regardless of what OS I run. Also, my main priority is the max stable OC. But sometimes I do use Overdrive for quick tests.
Before you found the max stable frequency you desire, you may want to disable all the power saving features first. You can enable it back after that. However, the system stability may be compromised after you enable it back; depending on motherboard model, BIOS and other settings.

try to reduce the vcore by 0.05/0.1 each time. if it can reach 1.2v core with 4.3 GHZ i think u will feel awesome,

my 1055T run at stock speed 1.1vcore. smile.gif
*
Nope. This is already the minimum Vcore it needs for 4.3GHz with OCCT 1 hour stability test. sweat.gif
It can perform at low Vcore for stock 3.5GHz @ 1.15 V and the Vcore scales linearly till 4.3GHz. I haven't really try any stability test past 4.3GHz. My power supply may not able to provide enough juice doh.gif

Hi bro ..

Den how about mine amd 960T ..

If i would like to overclock it until 3.9 Ghz . How much vcore voltage should i put??
*
Many factors to consider. Since you are the only one having access to your own chip, why don't you find out yourself? smile.gif
Try with stock Vcore first. Then increase your multiplier by 0.5x. For quick test, you may use Cinebench CPU test. It will not tell us max stable OC, but it will give you rough indication. e.g. if Cinebench completed successfully at 3.3GHz, but hangs/auto reboot/blue screen at 3.4GHz, it means you need more Vcore. Increased the Vcore by the smallest step (normally 0.025V) and try again. Normally you will need more incremental steps for fully stable voltage.
Always watch your Vcore, +12V, and temperatures reading. And be prepared for a lot of reboots and blue screens.

have a look on my bios setting ..

my CPU Vcore and DRAM voltage is not stated on my bios  blink.gif

so i should add or minus during overclocking ???  icon_question.gif
*
That mobo is using offset values to determine Vcore. Must be a Gigabyte... (should punch that engineer lol)
Try with default Vcore first (means 0 offset). Set +0.025V once you hit stability issue. Again, watch out for your temperature, PSU voltages and Vcore readings. I do not know what hardware you are using.

BTW, what r u using now? Any recent OC? tongue.gif

QUOTE(munlok30 @ Feb 3 2013, 09:07 PM)
so is that a bad news i having a gigabyte motherboard ? cry.gif

The only way i can set the vcore voltage accurately is by using the AMD overdrive  rclxms.gif

another setting i set in BIOS except the vcore voltage only  tongue.gif
*
Nah it's still fine. Just sometimes it's frustrating because Vcore is a tad inaccurate due to the way offset works.
