I thought it's hard to get IT job anywhere for the matter... You look at those foreign talent's resume and you know why.... Next time I must make sure my kid does not go into IT line..so competitive.
*
actually IT is very broad... it depends on what you're doing... if u compete with those from bangalore, make sure you're willing to be better than them, live like them and make less than them... mostly technical support, programming... etc etc

i got 2 cousins in the IT line.... non of them find it hard to compete... because they arent competing directly with those ppl... in IT you can also do project management, planning... etc etc

higher interest rate, but shrinking ex-rate... worth it? also because inflation and country risk is higher.... if u wanna go for interest might as well change to rupiah, not only is the interest very high the currency is going up too rclxms.gif

seantang,
i believe alaskabunny confused UOB debit card(white colour) with ATM card (grey colour), primarily because one can use debit card as ATM card to withdraw money from ATM machine and no charge whatsoever involves.

UOB debit card requires a certain amount of spending to waive off that 18SGD fees. ATM card is free

since the ringgit is droping compare to sgd, wont it risky if the rm drop alot? you guys not saving it in sg bank and change it at one shot?
*
msia is commodity export based... oil n gas + palm oil... the usd drop commodity goes up... so to support the export.. rm drops... as for sg, they are more towards services and finished product so increase in sgd rate will only affect operating cost?

dont plan to return to msia... so wont change tongue.gif unless my funds to my mum runs out, then gotta top up lor

QUOTE(crispypork @ Jul 18 2011, 10:18 PM)
Guys & girls,
Was hoping that some of you that are more experience could shed some light. I consider myself a freshie and I am thinking of making a career move and starting over in Singapore, so generally speaking, is Singapore a good place to start for an engineering graduate? I guess, my main concerns are not on the financial aspects but more towards the career side of things, in particular (for a MNC):

Training & development: In comparison with grads of the same organisation in other parts of the world, do you get the same level or training and exposure?

Working culture: Would love to know how's the working culture like? Mutual respect for one another (even from the top)? Promotion based on merit? Do people value/place importance in quality of work rather than profit only? Are people very willing to pass on their knowledge and help promote growth in one another? Working hours? etc. etc.

Social aspects: Do people go for lunch together? Do people hang out together after work?
While I understand that this is all very subjective, but I suppose there can be some generalisation to an extent. Also, I do apologise as some questions might seem very petty but I sincerely hope that I could get some advice, particularly from those who have had the chance to work in Singapore and in other parts of the globe.
Thanking you in advance,
Crispypork
*
1. eng. is ok, finance is the best in sg
2. yes, same exposure but some corp are just too small in sg
3. no mutual respect, top treat u like shiet, promotion based on merit and bootlicking at times, profit, generally helpful, avg 10 hours a day
4. yes, often cause nowhere else to go, no all balik rumah unless u r an alien,

The company can save hotel costs bcos my cousin can stay at his house whereas he can go back to KL frequently at the expense of his company.
Damn, so lucky of him.
