Yo wtm and super I finally got my R60 and guess what? It's from Kelly too!
My battery is Sanyo too.
Once I brought this baby home, I had the default 256 RAM removed.
Took me awhile to carefully remove the armrest area, the front part seems to be latched on. I got the back part tilted up but the front part refuse to budge, need a little shake to get it loose.
Once I got it removed I saw most part of the inner side (left and right) covered by greyish brown metal plate. I suspect it's the magnesium alloy roll cage. Whereas in the middle is a silver plate. I had to remove the silver plate to retrieve/replace my RAM.
Need to ask, does your inner part looks greyish brown too?
When I take out my battery I can see the greyish brown plate there too.
I found it quite ugly to look at, as if the plates are dipped into mud.
Does your roll cage has this dirty look too?
Anyway, it's just the inner part, I shouldn't fuss about it.
I also had to remove my XP Home and reinstall XP Pro (needed the IIS badly for development).
Forget to backup the drivers and took me 2 days to update the drivers.
Actually it takes only one day but I kept getting the PCI unknown device problem.
After doing some reading, I finally found out how to fix it.
1. Download Realtek HD Audio driver : WDM_R147.exe (google up myself)
2. Install ThinkPad audio driver provided by the ThinkPad website.
Previously someone mentioned about this PCI problem. If you don't get this fix, you can't listen to anything except for "beeps".
This babe really reminds me of my EX (r51e) except that this babe is lighter/slimmer and it comes with touchpad (a bit small), not to mention smarter too (core duo). I like the "windows launch" button they included into the keyboard this time. Plus the keyboard feel is awesome. Compare to R51e, this babe should be cooler. The ventilation is quite different from r51e. The base has a fan and the right upper corner has more holes.
Did you guys notice there are holes in between gaps of each keys?
At first I thought it's a manufacturing scar/defects, later I check it up and found out that it's actually part of the drainage system.
Water goes into those holes and literally pass out from the bottom of your ThinkPad. Check the bottom of your R60 you will see a "Droplet" picture, each droplet represents where the water will come out from. How cool is that (not that i encourage anyone to pour water on their keyboard)?
Check this out ...
http://www.lenovoblogs.com/design/design-i...r-on-the-brain/I guess that's all I have to say about my first 2 days with my R60.
I'm writting this in KLCC AMW, the WIFI config is an ease.
2 Step configuration, 1. just launch your ThinkPad access connection, 2. select Access point and connect.
I notice the WIFI pick up is superb too, no hiccups/disconections.
Notice for first time R60 user :
1. When upgrading RAM, never use force to pull the armrest out, shake it left and right to loosen it from the front latch. You can also use your finger nail. Slide your finger nail between the gaps starting from one side to the other.
2. MUST install "Rescue and Recovery", if your unit is the MS-DOS version. You won't want to download/reinstall drivers/applications all over again (unless your office connection is superfast).
3. When there is a power source, best use your ThinkPad without battery. Just plug adapter to notebook (have the battery remove first) connect to power source , switch it on, viola, you are good to go. I do this to increase battery lifespan (don't want to strain it from constant charging). I use battery only when there's no power source.
4. Don't eat AMW Ramadan promotion, it's disgusting. Kidding, you can ignore this.
