When is IBM releasing Core 2 Duo notebook? Kinda interested.
*
Is lowyatt selling any T7200 2.0Ghz Core 2 Duo Processor. Maybe you could buy one and replace it with your existing ThinkPad, but make sure your chipset is 945GM or 945PM.

*
I know where you got it... it's from www.lelong.com.my by a woman named Kelly.
Am I right icon_idea.gif ?

Anyway you can trust that the R60 will run fine for years to come because I got my R51e from her also icon_rolleyes.gif last year and it's running as good as new till today.

She sells ThinkPads at real low price + free gifts (free usb mouse, usb keyboard and 5pcs Sony CD R/W), till date i still wonder where she got the stock from.

Any hints wtm?

Though of getting one too from her, but what worries me is the battery.

Wtm is your R60 running on T2300E(1.66GHz) or T2300(1.66GHz)?

I did a little research on the two so called "identical" processor and this is what i discovered ...

Read this first

Read this second

So is the model "ThinkPad R60 9455-A18" sold in Malaysia using T2300E or T2300?

Yo wtm and super I finally got my R60 and guess what? It's from Kelly too! thumbup.gif

My battery is Sanyo too. rclxm9.gif

Once I brought this baby home, I had the default 256 RAM removed.
Took me awhile to carefully remove the armrest area, the front part seems to be latched on. I got the back part tilted up but the front part refuse to budge, need a little shake to get it loose.

Once I got it removed I saw most part of the inner side (left and right) covered by greyish brown metal plate. I suspect it's the magnesium alloy roll cage. Whereas in the middle is a silver plate. I had to remove the silver plate to retrieve/replace my RAM.

Need to ask, does your inner part looks greyish brown too?
When I take out my battery I can see the greyish brown plate there too.
I found it quite ugly to look at, as if the plates are dipped into mud. ohmy.gif
Does your roll cage has this dirty look too?

Anyway, it's just the inner part, I shouldn't fuss about it. wink.gif

I also had to remove my XP Home and reinstall XP Pro (needed the IIS badly for development).
Forget to backup the drivers and took me 2 days to update the drivers.

Actually it takes only one day but I kept getting the PCI unknown device problem.
After doing some reading, I finally found out how to fix it.

1. Download Realtek HD Audio driver : WDM_R147.exe (google up myself)
2. Install ThinkPad audio driver provided by the ThinkPad website.

Previously someone mentioned about this PCI problem. If you don't get this fix, you can't listen to anything except for "beeps".

This babe really reminds me of my EX (r51e) except that this babe is lighter/slimmer and it comes with touchpad (a bit small), not to mention smarter too (core duo). I like the "windows launch" button they included into the keyboard this time. Plus the keyboard feel is awesome. Compare to R51e, this babe should be cooler. The ventilation is quite different from r51e. The base has a fan and the right upper corner has more holes.

Did you guys notice there are holes in between gaps of each keys?
At first I thought it's a manufacturing scar/defects, later I check it up and found out that it's actually part of the drainage system.
Water goes into those holes and literally pass out from the bottom of your ThinkPad. Check the bottom of your R60 you will see a "Droplet" picture, each droplet represents where the water will come out from. How cool is that (not that i encourage anyone to pour water on their keyboard)?

Check this out ...

I guess that's all I have to say about my first 2 days with my R60.
I'm writting this in KLCC AMW, the WIFI config is an ease.
2 Step configuration, 1. just launch your ThinkPad access connection, 2. select Access point and connect.
I notice the WIFI pick up is superb too, no hiccups/disconections.

Notice for first time R60 user :
1. When upgrading RAM, never use force to pull the armrest out, shake it left and right to loosen it from the front latch. You can also use your finger nail. Slide your finger nail between the gaps starting from one side to the other.
2. MUST install "Rescue and Recovery", if your unit is the MS-DOS version. You won't want to download/reinstall drivers/applications all over again (unless your office connection is superfast).
3. When there is a power source, best use your ThinkPad without battery. Just plug adapter to notebook (have the battery remove first) connect to power source , switch it on, viola, you are good to go. I do this to increase battery lifespan (don't want to strain it from constant charging). I use battery only when there's no power source.
4. Don't eat AMW Ramadan promotion, it's disgusting. Kidding, you can ignore this.

Rescue & Recovery acts as a complete backup.
It also allows us to migrate (copy backup and restore) from one ThinkPad to another.
I got it for RM2700 with free 256 RAM (but not using it).

Anyone want to buy 2 NEW 256MB PC5300 667MHz DDR2?

how much ram u upgraded? 1GB? 2GB?
ram price is shooting high... where u got it from?

I salvage it from my EX (r51e) and it's 2 GB 4200 DDR2 533Mhz.
At that time September 2005, I bought it for RM 365 per piece from C-Zone.

sep 06? that was few days ago....  how was the performance with 2GB ram? mine is only 256MB x2 Dual channel 667MHz.... so far so good... coz i yet to install any game...

it's there any utilities / tools u recommended for this lappy?

about the drainage system on the keyboard, it is COOL!!!!  thumbup.gif

Sorry it's September 2005 last year. My mistake.

Hey got a question to ask. I have installed CPU Z and my R60 is always running at 997++ Mhz in "Maximum Peformance" configuration.

Is this the peak performance of R60 only at 997Mhz, I thought it's suppose to go all the way up to 1.66 Ghz?

Or am I missing out some settings?

Or is this how core duo behaves?

when Z61T come out??????? and how much??????

IBM soooo slow. HP already offer c2d!

Z61T heard from my friend Kelly will be out by early/mid December mainly for XMas hype.

But come to think of it, do you all really want to get C2D now for RM4000?
Santa rosa chipset and 965GM (crestine) will be out next year which can support up to 800Mhz FSB.

i doesnt know thts normal or bugs for new IBM lappy, this only happens when u took out the battery, whenever wat mode u set in windows or bios, once u take out the battery, the speed maintains at 900++mhz
looks like all of us here enjoy n appreciate our R60 very much rite? affordable, tahan lasak, excellent in built quality n internal design, which is worth every penny for sacrificing the spec  thumbup.gif

Wow you are right, after putting the battery back the speed is back up to 1662++ Mhz.

The scary part is my Temp1 and Temp2 (core1 and core2) temperature increases from 46 degrees to 52 degrees celcius.

And you are right wtm ThinkPad Rocks!

i want to know if i have 1GB ram and 256MB Ram, should there any different if i plug in the ram order into the ram slot accordingly?

such as 1GB ram goes to the lower slot and 256MB ram goes to the higher slot....
*
Nope there's no difference in terms of performance.
But I would suggest you to put the 1GB at the bottom.
So that in the future if you decide to replace the 256 RAM with say 1GB RAM, you could do it with ease.

To all R60 users just a quick question.
What is your CPU temperature? Mine is 43 and 41 for core 1 and core 2.
Is this normal operating temperature?

Ever wonder what brand/model is your ThinkPad keyboard?
I did a little research on the ThinkPad keyboard and I would like to share my discovery with you guys.

It seems that there are 3 keyboard manufacturers, Alps, NMB(very rare) and Chicony.
I have read many reviews that praises both Alps and NMB keyboard.
Sadly not many on Chicony, some like it, some don't. Those who don't are Ex-NMB or Ex-Alps users.

Anyway if you ever wonder how's it feel like to use an Alps or NMB just read the review below ...
Keyboard Maniac Review

I know words alone can't really express how it feels like to use Alps and NMB, but at least it gives us a rough idea.
I am considering getting Alps and NMB (Yes you guess it right, mine is a Chicony), mainly as a backup keyboard, partly for satisfying my curiousity.

You guys probably think I'm mad. (It's just a keyboard, why bother?)

Anyway, those who are as "mad" as me and would like to find out more about their keyboards can refer to the links below.

1. Find out your keyboard FRU number
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss.../partsLookup.vm

2. Key in your model/serial number and do a lookup

3. Scroll down the list and find for your keyboard FRU number. You should see something like the below...

39T7148 39T7178 KEYBOARD FRU YES

4. Go to this page and lookup
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-64342.html

Example : 39T7178 corresponds to "Chicony", "English, U.S."

Last words, I hope there are some Alps and NMB here in Malaysia.
Do tell me your experience with an Alps or NMB keyboard.

Just want to ask any thinkpad users suffers this issue:

*press the keyboard G,H,J (3buttons) simultaneously and there's a loud beep. It's quite annoying when I am typing fast. Anyone knows how to turn this 'beep' sound off permanently? smile.gif

Hey I got the same problem, I press "4,5,6" or "g,h,j" or "t,y,u" etc random combination it causes the same 'beep' too. I notice the 'beep' volume is depending on your volume setting.

Initially when I first heard it, I got quite a shocked because I was working real late and it was a quiet night yawn.gif with no one around then suddenly...... "BEEP" ! blink.gif shocking.gif

So anyone knows how to turn it off without adjusting the volume setting?

I found the solution for this problem please refer to the steps below ...

Yup, present on most Thinkpads and, for that matter, laptops in general.

Bring up the Control Panel, then click on System and bring up the "Hardware" tab and click on Device Manager. After you have done that, click on View>"Show Hidden Devices" and expand "Non-Plug and Play Drivers" by clicking on the little plus sign next to it. Scroll down to where you find "Beep" and disable that device driver. Then click OK/Apply to save changes and test it out. You shouldn't have the beep when you hit three keys anymore afterwards
