ThinkPad P1 Gen 2 impressive review.

The design build very solid than my previous X1 C6, this workstation can allow you to do more thing than slim X1 C6.
Actually I’m surprised about the SSD R/W speed more or less same as Samsung 970 Evo Plus, this time Lenovo packed with Samsung PM981a, lol I’m missed out another 1TB with offer price , cause I just customised for 1TB only.

Another thing is after installed eGPU of Nvidia control panel software cannot used with build in Quadro T2000 lol.. just left with external RTX2080 setup.

P1 Gen 2 4k display missing temple glass on cover, just like normal display, but the Color really rich same as X1 C6 WQHD HDR Color.

I love the weight cause just 1.7kg only and still able to charge with 100W PD from eGPU.

Regarding the airflow noisy, I’m accept cause still less noisy than my ex X1 C6.





Front look from 4k display, the design remind me from dell latitude. Lol 😂

P1 Gen 2 comes with Samsung PM981a the R/W very incredible , I am not too sure about previous Gen.
The price for PM981a were cheaper than 970 Evo Plus, but speed may slightly the same.

After software installed the speed is decreased a bit.


Lenovo this time never removed the screw for extra SSD , somemore come with heatpad sticker for SSD.


My conclusion:
Best Buy laptop from ThinkPad X1 Extreme/P1 Gen 1/2.
Cause you won’t disappoint of the weight and performance.
Against latest P1 Gen 2 slightly cheaper than previous Gen, if you consider to add on 64gb RAM with 1TB x 2 , the price are cheaper than X1 extreme Gen 2.

ThinkPad allow you to open back cover, excepted to touch on motherboard.
Such as SSD and Ram or Wifi upgrade is warranty not under covered.
Except you remain on the factory parts.

You will facing with heating an issue, due to X1 Carbon over slim and single exhaust fan only.

Yes same as my ex Carbon 6th Gen, the fan blowing heats non stop and if you holding mouse on right hand, the heats will blows direct on you.
Make sure buy laptop stand for more air intake to solve the cooling system.

No issue, just when doing installation or charging with running heavy software the fan blower will kick in.
