Plus, another issue with UK releases, for some, are the ratings logos from BBFC (British Board of Film Classification) and IFCO (Irish Film Censors Office) appearing on the front cover art, and even on the spine of the packaging.

US releases only have the ratings indicated at the back, as they are voluntary and not legally required for distribution, unlike in the UK and Australia. German releases also have the ratings on the front but French releases usually don't.
*
Although it is voluntary for filmmaker to decide whether want to submit film for rating or not, but for theatrical release in US, unless filmmaker only intend to show his/her film in very limited theaters, otherwise their have to send their film to MPAA for rating.

QUOTE
Currently, the MPAA has 5 main ratings:

Unrestricted
G for General - Nothing that would offend parents for viewing by their children.
PG for Parental Guidance - Parents urged to give "parental guidance". May contain some material parents might not like for their young children.
PG-13 for Parental Guidance 13+ - Parents urged to be cautious. Some material may be inappropriate for pre-teenagers.

Restricted
R for Restricted - Contains some adult material. Parents urged to learn more about the film before taking their young children with them.
NC-17 for No Children Under 17 Admitted - Patently adult. Children are not admitted.

Other
NR for Not Rated - Not Yet Rated, or an Uncensored R or NC-17 Movie.

Banned
[UNRATED] Professional Use Only (and all must be 21+)

Finally, here's more very cool Star Wars Blu-ray news. We've finally learned that when the Star Wars: The Complete Saga Blu-ray set streets on 9/16, in addition to the previously released audio commentaries with Lucas and members of the production crew, each film will include a second commentary as well culled together from archival interviews with cast and crew members. What's more, you'll get 45 deleted and extended scenes in all (!), plus new cast and crew interviews and packed interactive galleries featuring images of matte paintings and concept art, as well as "turnarounds" of props, maquettes, models and costumes. Interesting. The 45 deleted/extended scenes look to be the real treasure trove. Should be some interesting stuff in there.
