just want to add something abt RV (kinda boring dy rite?)

i see a lot of ppl calculate the value drop in percentage head on. So wanna highlight another parameter that has been neglected.

Taking for example, forte 2.0 v civic 2.0s (since it is the main debate nwadays korean v jap).
97k v 127k, so difference is 30k. When we do rv calculation, i think one shud also consider the money we paid upfront to own the more expensive car, hence the interest generated for taking the additional loan, or the interest that can be profited if we put the money into FD.

it could be substantial, if loan is like 7~9 years, which seems norm recently

not to be bias into selection, just saying...

That kind of calculation has some good points but more complicated and have a bit more assumptions, mainly that you put money into FD. If you don't put money into FD and spend it then outcome is different.

So that's why the most straightforward is just calc the value drop head on.
*
i disagree...spend it or not, it is still an amount of money. For that example i given, it shud be forte + 30k in FD vs civic 2.0s. Normally, we use FD rate as the appreciation standard for any fund/investment, a reference point.

Well, this is only true provided the person who purchased Forte actually has the extra 30k in pocket to begin with. Otherwise if he/she buy a Forte because Civic 2.0s is above budget, then there shall be no issue whether FD generate any profit or not.

Besides, if using your philosophy to buy car, I think everyone should just buy a Viva, forget all other luxury/expensive/exotic brands, those manufacturers can close shops already.

A Viva owner after reading your reply will probably laughing out: " see, I'm so smart, now I feel that as if have the extra RM 600K-700k to put in FD to generate interest compared to those morons who buy a Porsche, Merc or BMW....."

Everyone has different financial capabilities, needs, standards, preference....., we shall not impose our own value on others.

Just my 2 cents.
*
that is not what i meant. I never say buying forte or viva is smart move or otherwise. Im just saying a parameter has been neglected in the value drop calculation when ppl talk abt RV. Thats all.

Some ppl dont have the actual amt to buy the car in cash, normally takes loan. But, by buying a more expensive car, say in this case, a civic 2.0s is not only 127k, it shud be 127k plus the interest or finance term incurred. Whereas, if buying a forte will incur less interest coz simply loan amt is less.

example :
10% dep for each car, same int 2.45% for 9 years. By the time, the owner completely service the car loan, it shud be:

civic : 12,700 + (114,300 x 9 x 2.45%) = 152,203
forte : 9,700 + (87,300 x 9 x 2.45%) = 116,250

besides the actual car difference of 30k, there is additional difference of RM5,953 consist of 9y int of the car difference. So when u compare RV, it shud be civic selling - 152,203, and for forte, it shud be forte selling price - 116,250.

Again, this is wat i suggest shud be in consideration, nothing more. Im not imposing that everyone shud buy cheaper car aka korean or watever.

Again, by considering only this factor, you have to ignore other added values of buying a more expensive/branded car.  For instance, the satisfaction, rewarding experience, the pride, driving pleasure, hassle-free, wide support network etc..... all these can't be valued in terms of money.

And perhaps one should consider that the extra amount of money he/she spent is actually getting them these added values. Personally, I will regard this as paying for those immeasurable factors, and when I'm selling my car, I don't calculate like what you are suggesting.  And my definition of Good Resale Value maybe different from others, and as long as I'm happy with the second hand car price during selling, I have nothing to complaint about.

Maybe Civic vs Forte may not show a wide difference in class and status, but if this is a budget brand vs Luxury brand scenario, and same car segment, I don't think a financially capable car enthusiast will settle for something less if he/she can afford something more expensive/branded.

resale value is monetary, interest incurred is monetary. Satisfaction, the pride, rewarding experience bla bla bla is NOT monetary...again, im tokking abt RESALE VALUE

by neglecting this, it seems like someone who ignore the compounding interest effect on a liability(car), not a prudent act. For me, i calculate a car price with the loan interest factor in as well. How long the loan, and the monthly payment like. What will the TOTAL price be? And of course, wealthy or financially capable ppl wont mind this, but not all are financially capable.

seems like hijacking a camry thread ? tongue.gif hehehe

I was wondering if Malaysia follow those oversea countries rules, meaning if caught speeding for the first time, RM300 fine, second time RM600, third time driving license will suspended for 2 months and fine RM2000.00, the 4th time will be suspended from driving 2 years and fine RM10k. What will these guys do?
*
err....pay rm1000 or little bit more to the guy which control this, and back to square one

a company make money, not SOLELY rest on how good their products are...
i think, toyota really excel in their production system, the way they produce car, with high efficiency, low wastage, and increasing quality in the same time. That part really helps them get good profit margin, and in turn be dominant.

VW got this plan to overtake and become world no 1, and im sure toyota is worried with their aggressive moves. Locally, we already witness greater amount of VW than we used to see 3 years ago.

those that made bad comments abt new camry, abt their low specs and old tech, has nothing to profit from drop of sales(maybe get some pride tongue.gif ).

but i think, by means of internet, unbound knowledge, we as consumers shud know more abt our products, whats happening ard the globe, are we being short-handed locally, in spirit of consumerism.

if we simply accept watever those bully sell to us, then they will continue to take advantage. In this very thread, camry is the example. Yes, it is realiable, yes, previous models has better RV than others, yes, parts are easily found, yes, nvh is good. But izzit really worth the price? Are they charging higher for bigger profit margin?

take for example, cbu lancer 2.0gt at 125k, and civic 2.0s with 60% local parts 127k. Suzuki kizashi cbu and camry umw, and many more. Is it a sitting duck easy prey hunting ground for these big bullies? Whereas the others are offering perks and specs to attract us? Are we simply killing ourselves by ignoring and become slaves?

just my 2c

simple point is no one is forcing anyone to buy anything. its consumer choice.
you can campaign/lobby for better safety, but i feel we are not strong enough or have the right infra to do it in meleisial.

hence, the only realistic way to have better safety is via natural market force
e.g demand. cars wif better safety get better sales if consumers choose that path

however, that is also not the case. because a car is many things to many different people.
it does not only perform one function.

even the outgoing camry also no diskaun
i was hoping to get 10k off the 2.4V but SA said not gonna happen

but we all know how our country with all the hoohah when debating, but implementing is totally different story

Modern car engines are now geared towards fuel efficiency rather than performance. So really aside from car features, NA engine from brand A is unlikely to differ too much from brand B or brand C. Whatever difference is going to lie in the way difference manufacturers tune their engines and their cars.

Those days of a high revving VTEC engine in a non performance based saloon? Long gone~~~

We are all saying the same thing. The only complaint we have against the Camry is the lack of safety and other specs for the price they are charging. Yes design is crap too but then again everybody has different taste. Read all posts carefully before commenting.
*
I tot so. When I tried, telling how we are being bullied, being asked to take bus instead.

I think the explanation on how rear seat belt can save life is comprehensive . But, my argument was, isn't already like cold story? Forgotten? When it all started, everyone hoohah, but later, no one remembers.

These company are gambling on the future. These conti with turbo n jap with hybrid. Korean are latecomers, they don't dictate the game. Just eating slices. We on the other hand , just want the most out of it.

No one here say Korean da best , no one said Korean got good RV, no one here said global camry is bad, just local camry is short handing us.

Push the button to switch on, accelerate 2 the desired speed and set. Even at low speed.
Can slow down and speed up also using the lever.
To cancel just pull the lever or apply brake.
I dono about other cars, but, it's far better than the one installed in my ex-ria.
Ops I've done comparison with the old kia again.

No ill meaning, how's the old ria auto cruise settings?

lexus, 3series, passat oso rated poor and so. gosh...
maybe prior to this new test, the manufacturer designs or apply safety measures to direct frontal hit. They took actual accident fatality stats to see what kind of accident happened the most, which stated trees, marginal frontal head to head collision, and put it into test. Very good lab test there. Hope it can benefit all

Yes i agree. I did another test yesterday. This time i used the cruise control to fix speeds on the best flat roads i could find. Then used the average FC meter to calculate. I find the instant FC gauge too sensative to foot pressure and road gradients. I reset the meter each time i was at 110kmph crusing speed and i did it 3 times to get an average.

I got about 6.0L/100km at 110kmph. At 90kmph, my reading was around 5.0L/100km. Couldnt test at higher speeds. Will do another test on the NSE this Friday.
*
i think there is something not right abt ur instant FC. I rmbr last time u said u had weird readings there. Yesterday i find at 110km/hr, was ard 6l/km from the instant fuel reading, not the ave fuel reading. Maybe u ought to bring it up at ur coming 10k km service. I done my alignment free at red cube even with odo 7k km

No nothing wrong. Its just that the instant FC is very sensative to even the slightest tap of your foot or the road gradient. So u can be going at 110kmph but if u depress your accelerator even a few mm, the FC reading will jump although there wont be an immediate increase in the speed. Thats why yesterday i used the average meter but reset it every time i reached 110kmph cruising speed. And i did it 3 times to get a more uniform reading.
*
how abt the reading when u use auto cruise at flat road? The instant FC shud give the correct reading, without resetting the ave FC.

If car price were reduced, you can save say....RM25,000 on a Vios.

If fuel is at non-subsidized RM3.30, that will allow you to buy 7575 liters of expensive fuel or 90,000-km of driving. Where got problem?

Now we often see only the driver in car with no passenger. For these driver, there will be incentive for him to get a Viva instead and mean 113,000-km of driving. Less pollution also. If someone want to drive BMW 7 Series, that is his problem and his money to buy expensive fuel.

And since fuel is at global price, nobody want to smuggle out of Malaysia any more.

So I am all for cheap car and expensive petrol. That is why i say BN and PR are all stupid.
*
politicians will say wat they need to win them votes. Right now, exp cars and fuel are the trending issues. Can even promise m'sia can get olympic gold at rio. doh.gif

Am I correct in saying these are Instantaneous FC reading? If yes, then these are meaningless when translate to actual Average FC.
*
Instantaneous FC reading gives u the engine and the car as a whole, its behaviour at the stated cruise speed. Cannot be translate to AVE FC, but Ave FC oso can be "meaningless". Many here put it XX% highway and XX% city, but how can u be exact for sure? Some pedal to floor once green light, some accent to speed slowly.
