but that defeats the purpose of getting a modelling amp in the first place.

if it's not powerful enough, get an overdrive pedal to add more gain to it, not get a new distortion altogether.

QUOTE(led_zep_freak @ Mar 25 2006, 05:54 PM) When you're setting the gain on your amp, the best to tip to keep in mind is that "you always need less gain than you think you need,". Go easy with the gain and if you think you're lacking distortion, whack your strings harder, you'ill be surprised how musical your guitar and amp could sound. definitely. and even for metal, more gain isn't necessarily better, in contrary to the general assumption.QUOTE(TheWhacker @ Mar 25 2006, 07:32 PM) Yup, that's true ... . heh, so am I a noob too for maxing out the gain on my Vox's Mesa modeller on stage? I have seen alot of noobs, first time on stage go and put the Gain to 10 |

QUOTE(led_zep_freak @ Mar 25 2006, 08:21 PM) Exactly, worse if they're using Boss distortion pedals (*Ahem* Metal Zone), ear-piercing and fizzy. hmm okay nice pointers there! thanks lzep Yup, more gain also means less clarity and more compression. If you substitute the gain with volume, you'ill get a bigger sound with clarity to cut through the band. |

but the Metal Zone reduces your tone to an airport runway, and it is not for use onstage or even band practice. and it makes ears bleed.
