Oh . .coz I thought there might be some "KE" version of baseband and build number too . . based on your comment, I presumed it is ok to maintain "KE" version for kernel and "KF" version for baseband and build number . . latest kernel would be "JPKF3" ya? thanks hehe
*
It does not matter much in Samsung phone. Can mix and match but it is better to use the latest kernel or at least the same release with firmware. JPKF3 is the latest in the collection but it is for middle east region. If you love to use arabic language and keyboard then it is ok. nod.gif

Restart the flashing process again. You phone is not flashing anything. There is no status update above the COM11. Change to another USB port.

Power down your phone and boot again to download mode; restart Odin.

Yes, either pull the battery or press and hold power button. Restart the download mode.

Before connecting the phone to PC, restart ODIN. Better plug the phone to another USB port.

If you encounter boot loop after flashing, then you need to wipe your phone using Recovery Mode (Most likely to happen if you're coming from Villain).

The phone file system type is EXT4, only internal sd and external sd was formatted as Fat32

Stock player can't play mkv file. Need 3rd party player like MoboPlayer.

SGS2 can play mkv files smoothly. I've tested it with DIVX Plus HD format. If you wanted to test, download the video from this link...

http://www.divx.com/en/electronics/solutio...x-plus-hd/video

The videos I've tested were the GI Joe and Ironman.

Btw, CSC is for LBKE5 is where?
*
You need Kies App install in the PC and not using Kies Air.

Btw, did anybody else notice that there is a "very slight backlight bleeding" on the left/right side of the home button? Yours maybe on the left or it could be on the right. It's like a small white dot of light peeking throught the button biggrin.gif

I have that... just push the button to cover the light. It will be ok tongue.gif

Wanted to try on K9 but one thing made me keep going back to default mail client. I'm using 2 email account, 1 is hotmail and 2nd is my company email(POP Server), by using the default email client some how it will manage to configure automatically as push mail and it actually works tested on that.  Where on K9 i only can configure it as poll account and no idea how to configure it as push.
*
You need to use Samsung SocialHub function to be able to have push mail capability on default email app. At most I received my emails in 2 minutes timeframe. This push email function won't work if you have battery monitor program like Juice Defender which only initiate data connection on certain interval.

You can surf this URL to see how this thing works.

worked great!
used this site: www.fakenamegenerator.com to generate fake name, address, credit card number, etc.
another question:
any idea how i can disable message alerts when a phone call is in session?
i've been encountering this alot lately.

im in the middle of a call, and a sms or email comes in.
at which point my notification ringtone rings while im on the phone!

very annoying, very pointless.

anyway to make it into a *beep* or not ring at all?(vibration would be perfect,i think)
*
Settings -> Call -> Call alert -> Alerts on call

Just curious, why need to use third party app for push notification? Samsung social hub not good enough for that?
*
Dunno, maybe they like to set the protocol, port and cert biggrin.gif I prefer Social Hub, push email setting done with email address and password only. The rest is automagically done by Social Hub.

Installing Villian now as we speak smile.gif

I got to ask you this:
I tried to push email via K9 but unable to. There is another forumer who gave me instruction and I followed through 100% (am using Yahoo) but for some reason, not able to connect to server for IMAP yahoo.

Did I miss out anything?

Also, stock email has push email for all (Yahoo, Live etc) right?
*
Yup, I've done that and working flawlessly.

i try to use adb remount, but it show:

remount failed: Operation not permitted

why this is happening?
*
You need Superuser access to use this function. After connecting your phone to PC (Make sure your phone screen is active and not showing lock screen), type SU at ADB terminal and the phone will pop up Superuser access permission.

Hello Galaxy S2 pioneers,

I just want to ask how is the music audio quality? The S2 uses a Yamaha DAC which is not very highly rated compared to the Wolfson DAC in the Galaxy S. For those who upgraded how is the sound quality compared to the S? For those who have used iphone 3gs/4 before how does it compare? Music playback is very important to me so I have to find out first before I jump in.
*
Stock to stock there is not much difference but once SGS1 uses Voodoo tweak, there difference is a lot especially using an audiophile headphone.

Now I'm searching for SGS1 or Nexus S. Regret selling my SGS1 cry.gif

bro, do we need to backup the efs folder according to xda?
do u backup ur folder?
*
Yes, I did this first thing after I rooted my phone. Use XDA guide to help you. IMHO, rom from Cyanogen and MIUI tend to mess up with this folder.

yeah, i backup alrdy,
but i used terminal emulator, dont know how to use adb (still learning:blush:)
is it correct that what it did is create 1 EFS folder in the sdcard in .tar format,
and the other 1 is the image file in the EFS folder

even tho i followed the guide, im confused,
what are we going to do with it if we happen to corrupt the EFS folder?
how are we going to restore it? hmm.gif
*
Ok, you're doing the right thing. As long as you have .img and .tar. Next, copy those files out from phone and keep it in your pc.

To check .tar file, just use any file compression software like 7zip to view. You should see the same files and folder as your phone.

For .IMG, the size of the file is equivalent to EFS partition size. You may mount it (if using linux) to see the innards but I have not done that yet so cannot verify on it.

yeah, i checked the .tar file, there's 1 EFS folder inside it,
as for the image file , the size is 20mb, is it rite?
how to check the partition size in the phone?
tried using root explorer, but cannot..
*
Yup, 20MB is the correct size.

To check your partition size, you need to use ADB terminal or install terminal app in your phone.

CODE

#df

Look for /dev/block/mmcblk0p1

MY EXPERIENCE WITH GS2 AND DIFFERENT ROMS/STOCK ROM
Been playing with a bunch of roms for awhile and here's some finding's I'd like to share:

1) Villainrom is quite a bit of a PITA to use because there are a lot of patches that need to be added. Other roms are usually cooked up-to-date by the cook and comes very close to perfect.

- You can customize before flashing the ROM... everything can be done if in zip file.

2) Baseband KE7 baseband after battery calibration gave me best battery life

- My best modem so far is DXKF1

3) KF2 kernal gave me some random shutdown issue. Flashing back to KF1 has been the most stable.

4) Our firmware is from Singapore. The stock firmware can be downloaded here:
http://hotfile.com/dl/120783140/282d1ad/I9100ZSKF1.rar.html

It took me a bit of digging to find the correct firmware with correct CSC. If you wish to use samsung apps, you have to make sure the CSC is correct or a lot of the functions wont work. Most of the custom Roms on XDA have different (their localized) CSC.

5) Hacked google nav is excellent, no longer need to bother with PAPAGO. HOWEVER, the robotic voice is absolutely horrible..

6) One rom that is close to perfect is TK Rom 3.0.8. However for some reasons "Samsung Apps" was left in there and because the CSC is incorrect for our region, the app is pretty much useless. If you were to flash back all the samsung apps as per the rom's thread, you will find that almost none of the stock samsung apps work since the CSC is incorrect.

- You can flash any CSC using Odin or customize your .zip file before flashing (prefer the latter coz it won't wipe the phone).

TK Rom + baseband KE7 + KF1 Kenal is the most stable rom I've used so far. However, to "perfect" the rom, you need to install root uninstaller (android market) and remove the samsung app. Install GO Launcher and speed up the transition speed. You will no longer feel the transition lag between pages. It's about 95%, if not 100%, as smooth as iOS.

I am now trying Cognition S2 which also seems to be a very well made Rom.

-Good ROM and almost stock, but pay particular attention to the kernel coz the dev compiled his own kernel.

Download the official stock ROM for Malaysia SME set from Samfirmware. Put the modem file only at "Phone" field in Odin.
