Good pratices for laptop newbies

a) buy an extra usb keyboard & cooler pad

b) when u're using the AC adpater , always remove the 100% charged battery from the back (this may increase the life span of the battery)

c) leave a thin cloth on the wrist rest area if u're using the keyboard
(metallic/plastic wrist rest area may get obvious stains/scratches)

anymore suggestions?

It should be half-charged, not full charged for those laptop using Li-Ion battery.

The following is the quote from Notebook review forum:

QUOTE
Notebook battery conditioning for the long haul

Most people are familiar with battery "memory" which was known to be a possible problem with Ni-Cad. Li-Ion batteries used these days it's not so much of a problem. Some say to cycle the battery every month, cycling meaning to drain it completely and charge it to full with no interruptions. The problem was batteries developed a memory when not fully cycled to not use part of their capacity that wasn't drained. With Li-Ion battery packs, the memory isn't a problem and they do not need to be cycled and gain no benefit from it with some saying it hurts them more than it helps. It has been proven though that fully charged Li-Ion batteries in warm temps will lose their capacity over time faster. This isn't good for notebooks considering, when you're plugged in you're often @ 100% battery and the notebook is warm from usage. All you can really do is try to keep it cool for the best life of the battery. Keeping it cool may be just using it on a flat surface so it can breathe or using a notebook cooler to have it sit on. Reality is though, no matter what you do, Li-Ion batteries life expectancy is largely based on how old they are more than how much they were used. Many people feel they've degraded to the point of replacement within 2-3 years on most systems from my experience.

So, other than keeping it cool, you want to keep the contacts clean. You can clean the contacts using alcohol and a q-tip.

Notebook battery storage
Li-Ion batteries should be stored in a room temp or cool area neither at full charge or fully discharged. Around half charge has shown to be the best.

I trade in 256MB to Jason and purchase 1GB for RM 450. So I have one more slot to go. Maybe buying another 1GB or 512MB. 512MB is around RM250.

Mine is KTT. Yep, 512MB is for RM250, still can bargain a bit. He give me RM230. Coz I bought 1GB from him before. 256MB is for RM180. Go to Aggresive Tech, find Jason...he's very nice guy. Actually the performance the same, but KTT is certified by Toshiba, pls correct me if wrong. Jason changed the RAM that on the top, which require us to dismantle the keyboard. He does that coz its very difficult for us to upgrade the RAM ownself. So he left the easy one for me to upgrade next time, I mean the below one. He also help me to set my lappy even though I didn't bought from him. He said the guy from House of Notebook haven't help me to set anything, make the machine faster & software. Hope this will help. blush.gif

For my model, got two slot at two side, one is below and one is behind the keyboard. I also suprise when he first took it out. He said he left the one with backcover for me to upgrade later, its more easier than dismantle the keyboard. Make sure when you upgrade your RAM from authorize dealer, ask them to put in the behind keyboard first. If not, very hassle to open yourself. Hope this help.
