While I like the clarity of my new toy ES7, I notice at times that some of the songs were too sharp. So I guess I need more bass and warmer sound. Please do correct me.This will be my first DAC/Amp. The only DAC/Amp that I have tried during my purchase of ES7 was the Hippo Box+ and the Fiio E7. I like the Hippo Box+ more than the Fiio E7. So how is the Ibasso D2 Boa and the Ordnance .25 compared to the Hippo Box+? Any other worthy brands/models within the budget range? I dont adding up 50-100 more though. QUOTE(Akuma no Hana @ Jul 3 2011, 09:13 PM) JDS labs definitely worth it. can boost bass to not so bassy phone even without bass boost on. And you can increase the power by using external power supply. If assuming that the hippo box shares common sound signature and power of hippo amp then the JDS labs cmoy definitely beats it. It's a clear winner here. Ahhhh damn. U guys really poison me lah. I also want to wait for the c421 lah if like that. LOL.hi calmshot any info yet on the c421 such as casing and final price? When is the earliest we can see the info. I've been like waiting forever just to see their casing and price. Don't know which to get yet. QUOTE(tunertoobe @ Jul 4 2011, 08:07 AM) I've been following the C421. I like the internal shot of the amp. Looks good. Probably not as DIY looking as the cMoyBB. Bro, take picture can? Wanna see. Hehe.Added on July 4, 2011, 7:30 pmThis might be a very silly question, but after a trip to the bank, I have a concern about my rig, which is the Teclast T51 mated to JDS Labs cMoy, with wotiyo's interconnect. My concern is...........that it looks like a home-made explosive rig. I get looks from security guards at the bank. I'm leaving for Kuching on Wednesday, and I'm wondering whether I will be stuck at the scanner for a long time trying to explain myself to the airport security. That reminds me of this video from headfi. Not sure if u guys watch it already. Drag the timer to 5:55. QUOTE(tunertoobe @ Jul 4 2011, 10:29 PM) It's not the bulk, it's the way the rig looks that can cause misunderstandings. Yup specially the connector. What are those? The way they put the cable, looks abit like dynamite. LOL.Kinda worrying but funny at the same time. I was expecting one of them to go up to me and asking some questions. I guess with my IEM hooked up to it they kinda let me pass. Oh well, if the rig passes through without any suspicion, I would be glad. Else, it would be quite a funny experience. Anyways, back into topic. I think that this amp has somewhat cure my desire for a Future Sonics Atrio. It can make the Brainwavz M1 quite the air pumper. In fact, I'm more inclined into getting an IEM like the Hifiman RE0 than the Atrio.....for now at least. The bass of the Atrio would be nice, but since giving my Grado to my dad I would have nothing to rest my ears from bass if I got the Atrio and sell the M1. The Atrio would be great for a bass fix without an amp though, so it is still in my priorities list for IEM, but I think it just went 2nd place after the RE0 (or similar IEM). Thanks to the JDS Labs cMoyBB v2.03. Jude of HeadFi did give a tips or two on what to prepare when going thru the airport security. Ahh the JDS Labs cMoyBB v2.03. Hafto tahan until the next restock and hopefully the new model come out on the same time aswell. Hafto audition first then you will know if you really need an amp. I'm still looking for my first amp. Choose carefully. At least for my case, I'm looking for warmer and more bass due to the sharpness/lower bass on my ES7. Need to do more and more audition. Wow PINNED! Congratz to all! For the lulz. Found this old pix from HeadFi forum. ![]() ![]() |

What is DAC? QUOTE In electronics, a digital-to-analog converter (DAC or D-to-A) is a device that converts a digital (usually binary) code to an analog signal (current, voltage, or electric charge). Can try Jaben Network in Subang SS15 opposite AsiaCafe. Or you can go to their booth OR any other Audiophiles booth at KL AV 2011, JW Marriott.
Refer to this thread: http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1973253 OR, you can PM E1 - AKG. QUOTE(vex @ Jul 30 2011, 03:41 AM) How much is it? From bro E1 - AKG? |

LMAO! DACPort poisoning again. Keep it slow la guys. Give newbies like us the chance to understand and familiarized with DAC first. LOL.
I mean, go straight to the best like DAC Port no fun what. Then you stop and nothing much to do already. At the end we get bored, sell the DAC Port and change to new hobby. Hehe. Thats why I start with DIY-type one. Because seriously, I dunno anything about DAC before about a week ago. LOL. And some more I'm waiting for my first headamp also. So I'm taking it very slowly. Hehehe. As for now, I have completed my "audiophile starter kit". Waiting for my DIY-type DAC and amp to arrive at my doorstep. Great reviews there nordingh! |

The word "best" was intentionally put as if I assumed it is almost at the end of the tunnel for portable DAC. Forgive me if I offended you guys.
After all, I'm still waiting for my first DAC ever. And its a DIY USB DAC. Who am I to say what is the best. LOL. Please recommend more products with reviews backing it up. And among its price range also. I will put it in the first post for reference. For me, by the price, DAC Port seems likely to be the end of tunnel for me. LOL. My wife would cut my throat. QUOTE(Lennox @ Aug 1 2011, 12:09 PM) Based on his test, you can already decide on which to buy. QUOTE(sheenho @ Aug 1 2011, 11:53 AM) hi folks, im currently using GoVibe USB DAC.. I'm new about this too and would appreciate if taiko can explain the difference.how is the PCM2702 different from WM8740? i mean, in sound quality.. As far as I know, almost all DAP/PMP (IDevice, Sansa etc) have Wolfson's DAC chips in it. Been told that anything with Wolfson in it, it is surely good. Regarding these 2 chips, I saw a DAC that consists of both TI and WM chips. And that adds more to my confusions. LOL. Anybody can explain? Thanks! Google doesnt help also. Found some DAC chips comparisons page but its too advance for newcomers to understand. |

QUOTE(BCurve @ Aug 2 2011, 12:44 PM) no point starting at the bottom, this is the second half of 2011 already, I like the Lindemann USB-DAC 24/192, colour is nice, shape is also nice, with many bits and lots of frequencies to boot .... what is the point of listening owning so many when all you can listen is only one at a time .... I think what he meant starting at the bottom was to start small, just to get familiar with DAC and stuff, especially for beginners. It might be a waste of time(or money) for some people, but this is a clear habit for any enthusiasts everywhere. |

Guys, just posted my first (evar) review on the first page. Its a budget DAC sold by one of our members. Feel free to comment. I think its a good DAC to start with especially for beginners.
Feel free to recommend other DACs aswell. I will try to look for its reviews and put it on the first post. But would prefer it reviewed by one of us. Or maybe a local dedicated thread like DACPort. It would be awesome! Thanks! Haha. The T-Muso is RM120. Can we have like another branded budget range other than Go-Vibe USB DAC? 250-500 maybe? Then we move up abit to something like 500-1000 range. Above that already DACPort range. Then move up to Lavry for the ultimate. Just an idea. And I think we have limitation space for each post. So I cant put everything to the 1st post. Should've reserve the 2nd post. LOL. Yup Ibasso d2+ boa is on my list aswell. Lets break it to:- Popular DAC within:- RM200-500 = ?, ? RM500-1000 = Ibasso D2+ BoA, ? RM1000-1500 = DACPort, ? Above RM2000 = Lavry, ? What do you guys think? Ah thanks! But not so many lah. 2-3 in 1 price range. Another thing, I will need to search for its reviews aswell. Alot of work for me. Any help would be appreciated. Maybe 1 for portable and another 1 for desktop. Nope, dont mind. Can PM me the links. But before that, instead of just list up the one we thought is good or popular, maybe we need to do a poll first maybe. Unless ClieOS said so. HAHA. Added on August 4, 2011, 9:29 amGotta sleep first. QUOTE(Cold|Drawn @ Aug 21 2011, 12:42 AM) Slevin Sent's PCM2704 DAC Nice review! I bought the OScon 330uf from Slevin. Very satisfied with the sound coming out from this tiny DAC. Too bad I didnt get the chance to test the other DACs from him. Went and meet the seller today at Sunway Pyramid to get my DACs Initially I told him that I wanted to buy only one DAC, yet he decided to come to Sunway Pyramid during Saturday near buka puasa time (really hard to find parking man, had to drive all the way up to the roof top to get my parking) We went to Starbucks non-smoking area for an area with less noise in order to really test the DACs, seller decided to spend me a latte because today's my birthday! woot, free audition and free drinks lol, awesome. (btw, he didn't even check my IC Anyway, he took out 4 different type of DACs, from OScon 330uf, OScon 220uf, Nichicon Muse and Elna Silmic2. He hint me on the signatures of each of the caps then suggested me to try every single one of them. Started with OScon 330uf, I am not an audiophile person myself, so my hearing may not be as precise, neither is my explanation as well. Nonetheless, the OScon 330uf is more fun for me, I'd say the audio line has more variables. Suitable for people like me who listens to all range of musics. Then I tried the OScon 220uf, the sound is similar to 330uf. There's a slight difference from 330uf but I couldn't sense it, perhaps my hear is numb after listening to the OScon 330uf. (I tested with several songs, including rock, hip hop, vocal songs for each and every DAC) Then I tried the Elna Silmic2, whoa... the mids... is damn awesome, if you are a vocal or mid person and who could care less about the bass, this is the one to go. The vocals voice that goes through the Silmic2 caps is so precise and focus. If you'd listen carefully, you can even actually imagine the artist's lips shaping to produce the sound we call music. Last I tried Nichicon Muse, the DAC that should be coupled with an AMP. Beware, nichicon is very clear, it drills to the detail of the music. You can really hear the minor minor details of the song, but the problem is... it's awesome that you can hear details. But overall, it gets tiresome for me because everything sounds so equally good and none of them outshine each other, making the song sounds flatter. However, if you're a bassy person, you should really give nichicon muse a green light Spent about 2 hours trying out all these DACs, ended up buying three of them. One for myself, two for my friends. In brief, I'd highly recommend this seller to everyone. Not only is he friendly, he's also honest about his products. If you were to find a seller, might as well find one who's interested and passionate in his field, and Slevin is one of those people. *P.S: It really was my birthday yesterday lol. Just do another recommendation request using the 1st post format and wait for replies. Just curious, for Maverick Tube Magic D1 price equivalent, what is their worthy opponent? I like D1 ability to roll opamps and tubes but if possible, I want a portable size. Would love to go for DACPort but the price is too much for me. Discussion GO! QUOTE(edwardng @ Aug 23 2011, 01:10 PM) sry for a noob question Better quality is quite subjective. It will change the hearing experience. Do read up Cold|Drawn's review. Each caps has its own pros and cons. Will i get a better quality by changing high microFarad capacitors for pcm2704? The best is, what type of sound do you want to achieved? Bright? Bassy? If you want to pursue PCM2704 in which I know you have asked in the seller's thread, talk to the sellers if you can audition their products. Else, use this format to ask for more recommendation.
