Introduction
DACport is a reference-quality, stereo 24-bit / 96kHz Digital to Analog Converter (DAC) that sounds so good that it reveals the subtlest detail in your music. Featuring CEntrance's proprietary AdaptiWaveâ„¢ 24-bit USB audio technology, JitterGuardâ„¢ clock management system, and an audiophile headphone amplifier, DACport redefines the portable USB DAC.

So after lusting for the dac from headfi and other sites, I found out that Jaben carry this "lightsabers" and got the chance to test it this week. The main reason I lusted after this in the first place is due to lots of reviews saying it improves soundstages and mids and since my ES10 has a V shaped frequencies where the mid is very recessed so this is like the best companion for it. And it is also portable, which is a huge plus for me (bought the ES10 for the same reason).
Systems used:
Foobar2k (without any dsp)
Benq S42
Audio Technica ES10
Place: Jaben
Songs:
- No Leaf Clover-Flac-Metallica S&M Japanese Reissue
- Spanish Harlems-Flac-Chesky Records Guide to Critical Listening
- Festival Te Deum-Flac-Chesky Records Guide to Critical Listening
- I've Just Seen A Face-Flac-The Beatles (HELP!) 24 bit Remaster
- Grandma's Hand-Flac-Chesky Records Guide to Critical Listening
- Some J-pops
At first, I cant really appreciate this and the stock laptop dac which makes me quite worried whether my ears are the problematic ones and when I mentioned that I cant differentiate, I can see Yuheng's disbelieved face at my statement

. Then I realized that the store has quite a lot of people at that time and ES10 is not really a good isolator, so I increased the volume a bit and give more attentions. The first thing I realized that the bass which become less fatiguing and more controlled. The soundstage also increased dramatically for a closed headphone and extra details came out even at moderate volume although outside noise somehow managed to sneak through and cover most of the details. All the difference was enough to convince me that this is a good investment for the price. So I came today to buy it and tested with more songs for better review

Ordnance .22
Audio Technica ES10
Place: My room
Songs:
-The whole Chesky Records Guide to Critical Listening
- A few songs from The Beatles 24 bit Remaster Edition
- Few FLACs composed of multiple genres
- Few mp3s ranging from 128-320 kbps
Part 1 (without Ordnance)
So now Im in the comfort of my room, I decided to listen again carefully using DACport as the DAC and amp without using the Ordnance. First thing I noticed was the comfort which increased dramatically. Why? Because before this, the ES10 clamps a bit hard on my ear and since the bass become fatiguing quite fast, I noticed that it hurts wearing the ES10 with glasses only after an hour or so. Using DACport, since it is less fatiguing, I only noticed that my ear hurts from the glasses after I took off the headphone after 3 hours of straight music listening

. The next thing I noticed is that even for 128 mp3s, the separation is MUCH2 better compared to using the laptop DAC alone. I heard new details from songs I have heard hundreds time already

. For soundstage, previously I could not comprehend what was the guy in the Chesky was talking about soundstage but now I can precisely hear the echo in the large church. And plus, before this almost all FLAC songs sounds like they are performing behind me but now the staging is perfect. As for the The Beatles's earlier songs, before this I have to use foobar's resample+crossfeed+dolby headphones DSP to get the surround feelings but now it is enjoyable even without all the DSP
Part 2 (With Ordnance)
After fully charging the Ordnance .22, it was overall improvement especially the vocals but I love it this way better than without the amp.
So that's it, my review for the DACport. Keep in mind this is my own preferences and may differ from person to person plus I only compared it with my own laptop dac, some link below shows how people compare it with other DAC. The cons for this DAC are:
a) It gets warm after a while because of its Class A amp. Although not as hot as a kettle but you dont want to put it on your lap

(can use the belt utility if you want to make it portable which also looks like you are carrying a light saber

.)
b) The usb is quite long for me but maybe because this is not the default USB cable. May be useful for desktop user but not laptop user.
