It will depends on what you are having inside, extend of work to the effected walls (existing). What type of finishes, etc.
Unless you are asking everyone the cost for the wet works only... If you provide sketches and list down the scope of work required, I am sure there are plenty of reno contractors that has been lurking in this forum would be able to give you their quote |

First floor extension, you need to leave minimal 5Ft space, cannot fully extend like on ground floor.
Most people will apply permit with the above method, but instead build full. Technically is illegal. |

Try always have natural ventilation for toilet. When all else don't work, mechanical ventilation will be the last resort but not recommended as machine will still breakdown sooner or later. Beside fresh air is always the best way to ventilate the toilet. |

QUOTE(joxen @ Jun 29 2011, 05:19 PM) hi kelvyn, Like some guys have mentioned, better to relocate the toilet to provide natural ventilation. Nothing beats natural ventilation.wet works only. the kitchen cab etc will be done by others. is it a requirement to relocate toilet upstairs? If you relocate the toilet, then you MUST provide water proofing. Else you will regret later when it leaks. You should also get your contractor to carry out ponding test to check for leakage before placing the tiles. Better safe then sorry. |

Quite expensive eh these days...
Some ppl take Indonesia contract worker to do it for them... Buy the materials by themselves, and hire them.. Any issues? |

QUOTE(joxen @ Jun 29 2011, 06:58 PM) Quite expensive eh these days... Unless you are familiar with construction work, or have knowledge in renovation work, better not do so.Some ppl take Indonesia contract worker to do it for them... Buy the materials by themselves, and hire them.. Any issues? Also, unless you have seen their workmanship. Else, you could be disappointed with the outcome. Having said that, this method could be cheaper but not without headache. On another note, I would also be wary if someone could just give you a lump sum figure just from the overall size of the renovation work; without knowing the finishes, etc. End of the day, there will be argument on the quality and finishes. And not forgetting additional VO. This post has been edited by kelvyn: Jun 29 2011, 09:49 PM |

Agree, also if you do that please be ready they will waste the materials, maybe sell it out. My friend experience before and he advice me not to take that path unless you really full time monitor them like site supervisor. Another cheaper method is handling all the contractor directly (without ID), This include electrical, Wet work, plumbing, windows, tiles, and furniture. Still headache but better than handling the worker. Less headache is get ID, let them handle all the problem. They design, and build base on your requirement + their suggestion. All this 3 have its Pros and Cons |

A lot of people delay their renovation because of money and afraid of 'kena con'.
Any tips on how to find good contractor? |
