hi guys, just started lifting few weeks ago
one question here, to restart or not between reps of deadlift/barbell row. i know that it's better to restart between reps
the trainer at my gym, came up to me saying i was doing it wrong. that the deadlift/barbell row should be done without restarting, tried to explain to him the reason but he started telling all his cert and qualifications..

Thats either a straight leg deadlift or a romanian
*
i believe he was referring to straight leg at that time

QUOTE(janson_kaniaz @ Aug 13 2011, 10:02 PM)
For deadlift:

No one is wrong here. Just make sure form is not.
*
agreed, but the trainer keep insisting there's no such thing as briefly touching the floor.
i told him that i'm not saying that he's wrong and asked him politely to check the internet for more info regarding pausing/restarting, but he replied saying that the internet are full of bullshits (i do agree partially but there's a lot of credible source around eg. startingstrength)

QUOTE(mikehuan @ Aug 13 2011, 11:08 PM)
thanks for the info

Guys, he was talking about the rest between REPS, not the way to lift the weight. Just lift the damn weight.

I reset after every rep.
*
sweet and short, thanks

He's probably thinking that if you drop the weight down you'd lose tension on your working muscles or he thinks it's dangerous to continuously lift dead weights or he's ignorant
*
yeah, that's what he said. that if i drop the weight it would lose the point of lifting
i don't know if he's being ignorant or what but he's telling me he's been lifting for years and he has a cert that can be used all around the world and have never seen ppl restarting between reps

Well, the bottom line is, he's a trainer, not your boss. If he doesn't like the variation of the exercise you're doing (provided your form is good and all), he really can't make you do anything.
*
aight, thanks

QUOTE(mikehuan @ Aug 14 2011, 11:28 PM)
wait, BB row? you mean you're dropping the weights on the floor for BB rows for every rep?

are you briefly touching the floor for DL or restarting at every rep, ie, doing singles continuously? probably a video would be nice so we are at the same page here.
*
yeah, that's it

QUOTE(theCrab @ Aug 14 2011, 11:34 PM)
I remember it call pendlay row ..
more towards strength
*
yeah, pendlay row, named after glen pendlay

guys, is it advisable to lift and jog at same day? i've googled around. some say it's better to separate it, some say it's better to do it on the same day. but most of them is "i think" or "they say", but never based on actual practical results. what do you guy thinks?

It's either you train for strength or conditioning. Attempting to do both results in subpar performance for either.
*
understood. i've read some of your posts regarding shredding and you did some jogging, so you do it separately? (nvm, i searched through, you do it PWO)
what's your height btw darklight?
i've noticed some increments in my waistline as i'm trying to gain weight first, muscle later. that's why i wanna do some cardio to prevent my waistline to further increase, i do understand that it's normal to gain a few inches in this process.

Exactly the question I had this morning.....

But I guess it's much easier to put off the cardio first, as it could be hard trying to determine your optimal calorie input just for lean mass gain. Or am I missing out something here..
*
my waistline gain from 29-33/34 ==, that's why i wanna add in the cardio

Lol damn.... I'm the opposite. My waist went down from 34 to 28.5. But I'm still getting stronger. I just do cardio when I feel like it.

damn, if my waist continues like this, i'll have no pants to wear lol.

Added on August 19, 2011, 2:22 pmI'm 5 feet 8 and a half inches. Dunno in cm.

curling and smiling, wonderwoman?

QUOTE(-Dan @ Aug 23 2011, 06:30 PM)
I love training legs in my gym. The squat rack is perpetually empty. The only people who squat are me and 2 of my friends.  thumbup.gif

Then of course there are squat rack curlers, but thankfully they do their curls on different days. I'll never understand them, though. They never curl more than 30kg, but they still take up the squat rack to curl instead of using the other barbells with fixed weight for curling (which goes up to 30kg coincidentally). doh.gif
*
it's the same with me here, i've only saw 1 ppl squat before and that's it. the smith machine is crowded though, like 5 ppl waiting, while there's only me using the squat rack.

Questions regarding breathing. Is it advisable to take a few breathe during a range of motion? Or it should be always a single breathe (inhale and exhale) in a one-rep motion? Always inhale during release and exhale during contraction?
