For anyone missed the update: Sygic (GPS navigation app) new version 11.0.2 was out, fixed the bottom panel overlap with Andriod notification bar. Although the software "About" still showing 11.0.1 after install...

new OTA update 4.010.30, update from Acer_A500_4.010.22_COM_GEN1. Much smoother for me, since i never wipe apps or factory reset since day 1 with all updates install continuously.
FYI, the .22 was downloaded from XDA. Meaning manual update does not broke the OTA updates (yet) which most asked/afraid. |

QUOTE(exkaizen @ Jul 12 2011, 06:55 AM) I believe this due to 4.010.22 is an official rom but for other region.... as long as its official rom you will still receive ota even though manually updates. true. QUOTE(exkaizen @ Jul 12 2011, 06:55 AM) Added on July 12, 2011, 11:26 amwhat keyboard (not external) you guys/gals using currently? Any suggestion... cuz I saw this.... looks good... any experience?? Thumb Keyboard Also using Thumb keyboard now, 3 layouts also. Used Hacker Keyboard b4, but its become lag. The arrow keys is the main reason to choose my keyboard, still too difficult to put the cursor exactly the place in a sentence/word. |

BTW, no one mention that the back of the ACER A500 is brushed aluminum? i like the cold and metal feels holding it, plus not fingerprints magnet
Also, due to this aluminum, some reviews said the build quality is much better. |

QUOTE(yuxin90 @ Jul 22 2011, 09:26 PM) Lol...yah...the iconia is actually really decent tablet....n battery is really great...light usage since four days ago n still left around 30++ percent battery!!!! Agree, i am happy with the battery life too, i once played the "Game Dev Story" straight 12 hours non-stop until the battery drained, with 35% brightness (which is normal brightness, never adjust over 35% because it will be too bright for me! which is good anyway), 90% volume. The game is 2D though. Btw...which rom u guys rec for performance n bat..currently on virtous xoom (thank gods it is 12 hours, or else cant stop playing, the game is very addictive Added on July 23, 2011, 1:29 am QUOTE(yuxin90 @ Jul 23 2011, 01:16 AM) true, due to (strangely) most people go for Asus, less supplier carrying accessories for A500. i bought all the screen protector, Sikai MibroFiber case, micro HDMI cable from ebay. Next one would be the A500 silicon case (3 available now), car charger (1 USA seller, expensive postage), car holder (a fews, not needed yet) .This post has been edited by gl7: Jul 23 2011, 01:29 AM |

have not try custom rom yet, the official rom is quite good for me, never experience the battery % charge problem, maybe you need to reset battery in the CWM?
Anyway, here is the 4.010.40 Full official update from Acer http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread...33#post15861033 , was meant for upgrade from 1.139.04, but you can extract the zip after decrypt with Acer Decrypter and update with CWM, clear Dalvik cache. (always backup full rom before update) I use it to update my 4.010.38 (US version) back to 4.010.40, app and settings stay after 2nd reboot. |

As for the GPS, 30 seconds should consider good since mobile phone uses AGPS, which "assisted" by cell towers to locate your position while iconia is pure GPS, although also listed as AGPS, but without phone capability, i assume the "A"GPS is limited.
I used once on the road, with Sygic, the route is accurate. But most of the time i just use the mobile phone Sygic, since i to not have A500 car holder and car charger if the A500 running low battery. gnitney: what a modern dad and good child your father have =D , i hope you upgraded to 3.1 latest patches for best performance. |

QUOTE(gnitney @ Jul 26 2011, 10:54 AM) when i opened it the acer tab requires me to update the system but after downloading i couldnt install because it stated the sumthing invalid and canceled.. Yes, normally this is how android devices get update OTA and install easily without problem. Too bad I'm also quite new to android,u can try browse few pages back or the 1st page on how to update. Some master here like Benny may come back to check and provide some answers. You should try download again , try disable the screen auto sleep and wireless off when screen off that broke the download? Note down the message if failed again.Btw updating to 3.1 can be done by myself???or i have to sent it to sumwhere to get it done? Added on July 26, 2011, 7:07 pm QUOTE(RayKazansky @ Jul 26 2011, 03:25 PM) When I tested it with stock HC3.0, it was already so smooth! I wonder how's the performance if it is running on 3.1 You definately want to get 3.1 ,not only performance a boost, extra features like support more USB devices, example play games with USB gamepad, smoother low profile 1080p movie playback etc.http://developer.android.com/sdk/android-3.1-highlights.html Btw, XDA always my first choice for to look for tips, and updates, A500 section, http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1133 This post has been edited by gl7: Jul 26 2011, 07:17 PM |
