I STRONGLY suggest you readup the features of the roms you wish to flash. You will get yourself into trouble if you don't do that. Do not just jump in to flash the easy way trying to follow some rules without understanding  the features of the rom you wish to flash

The different roms in XDA has these features :

1. Some will wipe clean your phone while some will nbot
2. Some will auto root for you whiloe some will not
3. Some requires you to root it yourself after flashing using an insecure kernel method
4. Some roms required you to wipe clean ( ie factory/hard reset ) ; some will not - is optional step. But my advise is it is better to wipe clean ( hard reset ) so you start with a new plate , again is optional

I always recommend for new users, the easiest way of getting yourself started :

ROOT - easiest method use Supercurio

Rom flash - start with Litening - as using it , you learn how to use Odin. Also flashing this rom will NOT wipe your phone clean

Recovery - use Chainfire v4.0 . You will need recovery installed if you wish to do a nandroid backup and full restore of your rom. Some roms required you to flash using RECOVERY mode and not through Odin. Some roms even auto installed Chainfire recovery when you flash it

So the GOLDEN RULE is please READ the features of the rom you want to flash - check whether it use Odin or through recovery ??? Does it install recovery auto for you ?? Does the rom wipe clean your phone ??

Another GOLDEN rule :

ALWAYS ALWAYS wipe clean cache partition and in ADvanced mode - clear Dalvik cache BEFORE you flash a new rom - this will avoid reboots keep looping or phone fail to boot after flash. This also means it is in a way compulsory you install a RECOVERY first before attempting to flash a new rom. If you are lucky you could have a successful flash; if you are unlucky you will curse yourself because you want a fast way

Hi benny.

I think u'd mentioned this b4 about clearing the cache. There is this "wipe clear cache" and "dalvik cache". I believe these r two diff things am
I right?

I read it in xda forum, there r diff ways to clear these caches (i.e. Wipe clear cache via cwm recovery, dalvik cache via titanium backup pro). My question is, does cwm recovery's wipe clear cache means clearing both cache and dalvik? Normally how do u do it?

i think in CMW can clear both but it is different command/menu. wipe cache is in 1st/front menu. wipe dalvik is in advance menu...

To avoid boot loop after flashing custom rom, it is advisable to restore factory default, clear all cache ... including dalvik ... etc & also clear batt

but be warned all data will be lost

I guess you could judge from the previous post ..47C..... a little hot but whether it is tolerable varies from person to person I think. I would say, from personal experience, overheating in electronics is the main cause behind most of the reliability issues people encounter with their gadgets. I am not saying SGS2 will have this issue as it is still new on the market and no one knows until it has been on the market for a while. But by the time it may be an issue, you might be on SGS 3 or Iphone 5 or who knows what by then I am sure smile.gif

Not sure the reason behind you wanting to switch from Sensation to SGS 2 but it seemed convinced. So why not? smile.gif

dun ever swap sensation for galaxy s2. it is just like downgrading.

1) solid and premium aluminum unibody vs. cheap flimsy plastic
2) superbly gorgeous HTC Sense and its social features vs. iOS copycat Touchwiz

surely u will regret once the hype has gone down and u get fed up of flashing and reflashing ur ROM. whistling.gif

In general, some of the commonly reported observations ( I dont want to say issue as it is subjective) are:

1) Yellow tint which seems to affect the majority of the SGS 2 globally, at least from the 1st batch or maybe some of the 2nd batch.

2) Overheating after some period of usage

3) Short battery life span

4) Pink dot in Camera

I haven't calibrated my battery so i assume my battery lifespan is not very good.

Today didn't use much. ~5 calls, wifi on the whole time, sync 1 email account every 15 minutes, NO GAMING smile.gif
13h 50m on battery. Remaining 37%
Display 44%
Android OS 20%
Andriod System 11%
Cell standby 5%
Dialer 4%
Voice calls 4%
Phone idle 3%
Andriod Core Apps 3%

If I plan to use back original launcher how do I revert back?

Sorry for the nooby questions as I'm unfamiliar with Android.

Must... not... feed... the... oh crap. I HAVE TO DO THIS...

1) What unibody? The battery cover is blardy plastic with a metal insert lol. And flimsy thermoplastic is not.
2) Superbly resource sucking SENSE-less you mean, with a weather widget so large you can actually feel rain coming out of the screen.

Sorry mate. And I thought you were STARTING to make SENSE too (lol).

But seriously, the Sensation is a good phone - if you want qHD over SAMOLED+, some metal over a lotta (thermo)plastic, Adreno over Mali, fat (SOLID BUILD?) vs slim (FLIMSY BUILD?), USB-OTG over, well, Sensation doesn't have OTG. It's all up to you and depends on which one feels better to you.

And man, why all the Sammy hate? Being completely objective, I CHOSE the SGS 2 over the Sensation simply because I liked it, and I think most of these people did too (plus a small percentage of people buying into Samsung advertising, but people who eat up advertising buy iPhones lol).

So, who at Samsung pissed you off anyway?
