I may suggest if you want to give money for them to pay bills, it's better for you to take the bills and pay for them by yourself. I don't say all but I do come acrross some homes with bad caretakers who don't take all donation for the homes but for personal use. Thus, it's more advisable to pay bills for them yourself. As for things they need, they actually have a list of things either monthly or some weekly for food.
Yes, it is very normal in this country to see people treating homes as like a huge garbage bin where they just donate everything they don't want and can't be used anymore. Even like torned clothes, or some with spoilt tv/computers.
You may not need to give them some real good things, but do give them what they really want. Simply for orphanage, they do need some education materials, which hardly people willing to donate some of them.
It is advisable to call them, or better to pay them a visit before you're going to "donate" things to them. Do ask them what they need and they will provide you a list. You may look around at their kitchens for what they lack of. Most homes will have list of things they need which they will be updating it monthly, if not then two months once.
I think that all do not have such intention to treat other as "dump area", if something is given, it would be good that the things can be repaired and there will be some one who can help to repair them. This is who everone contributes a little. Of course torn clothes cannot be used to wear them and have you seen in countries that many without clothes....Yes, it is very normal in this country to see people treating homes as like a huge garbage bin where they just donate everything they don't want and can't be used anymore. We need to appreciate and convert them to useful things, such as cleaning cloth and even sell them to commercial as rags for cleaning oil and etc. This conversion will convert to cash. However, if all items are convert to cash there may be issues and people prefer to give in terms of foods and necessary items.....

Hi all,
I have been donating to various orphanage thru out the year. Its a yearly thing that we have as a family activity.
However, due to the increasing help that most of the famous orphanage gets, the caretakers are getting selective. They rejected my computer because its too old (its pentium 4) and they took the cpu and gave us back the monitor (its crt, they wanted led or lcd)
They even demand what type of rice they want and what type of food that want.
Our yearly donation consist of canned food, rice, chickens (both cooked and raw, we cook it ourself) and milk powder. I understand these are necessity for childs around 3-12
Since we are not very well to do, more like middle class, we are most definitely cant afford any expensive brand, we used to buy normal jati rice or sheaper canned food, BUT we never opt of china made brands. We always buy in bulks of 30 packs of rice and so on
This year we are thinking of getting food from the 1 malaysia shop and giving it to the orphanage
please recommend me a orphanage which is at the suburb area that seriouslly serioully need help. Usually those that are not so famous one
Thank you for your help
