Filco for the springy Shift/Backspace/Enter keys (known as Filco stabilizers).
Cherry/Leopold for the cherry stabilizers (or satellite stabilitizers?)

I prefer the Filco much over Cherry's design.
Other than that, most of them should be the same.

Full NKRO can only be achieved over P/S2 so most of the keyboards should suit you if you're only using USB.. and P/S2 is non hot-swappable as far as I'm concerned.

Then there's the difference of plate mounted vs PCB mounted. The latter being easier to produce and also easy to desolder out switches for repair or changing other types of switches.
Plate mounted keyboards have a more sturdy feel (still quite subjective if you type very light) but the resonance of the keystrokes are more 'muted' and maybe 'deeper frequency'.

Thanks.

Also, is Filco / other brands plate mounted or PCB mounted?
*
Easily Google-able.

Generally, my Filco (Filcos in general) are plate-mounted while in my experience, the Leopold/Ducky are also plate-mounted.
My Noppoo Choc Mini on the other hand was not plate mounted and only PCB mounted.

PS: Anyone wants to share shipping on the Realforce 87U 45g? I'm gettin' itchy.
And I read somewhere that if you imported keyboards (PC accessories) along with a laptop, it is not taxable?

Thanks.

Cool.

I am quite interested in getting a mechanical numpad for my office laptop (when traveling that is)

Oh, this shop. He only sells most of the Duckys now though.
A very amazingly friendly shopkeeper but please do call before you plan to go there as his shop only opens from 2pm to like 9pm.
And sometimes he is just not there.. he's more like a keyboard collector that sells other keyboards as a kind service to his fellow Hong Kong friends.

Very cool guy. He allowed me to try out his MX Reds and alot of other stuff. Just be nice and ask.
No purchase necessary

Guys, wat's the most cheap Mechanicial KB i can get today?
*
The TVS Gold (Cherry MX Blue) if you can get your hands on one (1,300 Rupee which is about RM85).

A review here.

Or..

Scorpius iOne M10
NTD$1890 + US$10 shipping to MY

Both are Cherry MX Blues and appear to be plate-mounted construction, however the Scorpius iOne was scrutinized back then for lousy QC although some owners had no issues whatsoever.

Only if the distributor decides to 'play games' and up the price.

I got a chance to try out the DUCKY DK1008/DK1087 with Taiwan ALPS switches today.
My first take:
Keycaps are lasered similar to the DUCKY PBT keycaps. It is not pure white, a bit brownish and I think.
New packaging and it seems the flimsy USB port area was improved a little bit, but it remains to be seen how these hold in the long run

Non Clicky
Switches are very clacky, a bit noisy compared to say, Cherry Non Clicky switches, but otherwise similar to Clicky ALPS

Clicky
These sound really crispy, and they felt rather light, maybe 45g by guesstimation. They felt really nice. I prefer the Clicky type to the non clicky since Clacking of the keycaps is not my cup of tea.

For the price that they are going for, a pretty decent starter mechanical keyboard.

Thanks for sharing this, definitely interesting and great for a starter keyboard.
Anyone has any experience with the Taiwan ALPS copy switch in terms of durability?

People shouldn't worrying about shiny keys.
The keys will all eventually turning shiny after some time.
It's all about typing habits.

I've known people who got shiny keys only after a week of use on Filco.
Even PBT will get shiny.
*
Here's my take on this:

For the audio folks:
Shininess is like the extent of burn-in of the drivers.
The more you use it, the better they sound. (and keyboards sometimes do require burn/break-in too!)
It's an indication of an investment well spent.

For the car folks:
Shininess is like bringing your baby out for the occasional runaround to keep it in shape.
No point keeping it in the garage and letting it rust and performance drop in the long run.
If you want to keep it shiny, wash it every single day with TLC.
Any specks, scratches or dings can be buffed out and if you're even crazy enough, you can give it a new coat of paint every year (changing keycaps)

For the housewife folks: (bordering on being labelled a sexist but oh well)
Shininess is like a good housewife, put her to good use!
No point having a trophy wife which will still age with time (yellowing even though brand new kept in box)
Best to use it to its best extent (use your imagination here)

In all, just use and enjoy your keyboard in good health!
Tons of keycap options available (original, third party) to suit your budget or taste when you feel like giving it a makeover!

But anyway, awaiting and very eagerly waiting for news on the Realforce!
