wow all this dynamic switching issue being fronted here makes me wish that I can take back my order and get a full refund...

wonder if thats possible..

I was looking at the latest dell xps, however the price is at rm3800 for a i5 processor whereas the hp 6114tx is at the same price + the headphones and has an i7 processor...but all this dynamic switching problems is kinda worrying me. More so when I'm a Maya and 3dstudio max user and both programs uses openGL. I realize that the graphics card is suitable for gaming and not for 3d applications, but Im treating this laptop as my work companion....do you guys think its still ok for me to purchase this hp laptop? even with the dynamic switching issue with openGL programs?

if you going to use this laptop to do 3d work for most of the time,
you should get a workstation laptop eg: dell precision which having nvidia quadro graphic card (very expensive) or laptop with ATI Fire GL
you mention you are considering XPS, but XPS is also just a multimedia / entertainment laptop,
the graphic card inside (nvidia GT series) also more to gaming.
why don't just get DV6-6001TX like some other people here? instead of XPS ?  brows.gif  brows.gif  brows.gif  brows.gif
don't worry about Radeon card compatibility for 3dmax / maya, these issue are happen very long time ago.

personally i like this laptop so much, i am using this laptop 50% for work (graphic / video / little bit of blender) 50% for gaming / entertainment.
before that i am also consider return the laptop to HP because of i cant manual switching the graphic card
(i am forcing to use blender with intel graphic device, this should be happen to be same with maya and 3d studio max),
but after many consider i decide to keep it and pray everyday that hp will give me manual switching in near future. lol

thanks dude

haha the reason why I look to these models is because of the price range/budget constraint only. For solely work purposes, Ive a professional desktop at home already so thats ok. Just wanted a laptop as my work companion..when Im at the office I can just continue some of my personal work and then bring back and continue work on it on my home desktop..

Just my main concern is that I cant fully use 3dstudio max and/or Maya with this hp laptop and the hd3000 card

Hey guys..I know that the dynamic switching issue has been talked to death over here but since I was rather concerned about how it will affect the programs that I often use which are mostly openGL programs, I gave the hp guys a call just to ask whether this will affect the said programs. After sometime, one of their sales agent told me that he'll ask the technical staff and also his manager to check up on this issue as they themselves have not heard about this dynamic switching issue with openGL programs ( I know!!!....right...)

This is the reply that I got from their technical manager :

QUOTE
Here is what my manager has informed me:
The notebook model above does not support dynamic switching (ref: http://www.amd.com/us/products/technologie...-graphics.aspx)
The AMD Radeon 6770M has OpenGL 4.1 support.

OpenGL requirements for the following softwares:
Adobe Photoshop : Min 2.0
Adobe LightRoom: Min 2.0
3D Studio Max: OpenGL capable cards
Autodesk Maya: OpenGL capable cards

Please also take note that dv6-6114tx might not fit to run 3D Studio Max and Autodesk MAYA because the min OS requirement is Professional versions or higher. Home versions might not be supported.

No issue with PhotoShop and Lightroom.

So...hmm....well...um..i'll just take their word for it and then will take it from there..so I didnt cancel my order just yet, will wait for the laptop and then test it out. Sigh...hope it all goes well. Reason why I looked to the hp was mainly because of the bundle deal and together with the price, it is really bang for your buck

Erm guys... I think it is inappropriate for me to say this here, but do forgive me if it offended anyone.
I had ordered my dv6-6114tx on the 15/6/2011 and up till friday, not even a single call from HP to tell me anything regarding my order... The terms & condition stated that the delivery would be 11-14 working days right? If it reaches this coming Friday, it would be a whole month already!!!! Should i go and rant this to the HP customer service by monday morning? or should i continue to wait till all my tension and excitement about my new lappy are lost in the sands of time?
*
I ordered mine on 11th June 2011 with my order being accepted and processed on 16th June..I received everything but the laptop last thursday (7th June 2011). The delivery schedule stated that I would receive everything by Friday (8th June 2011) and when I didnt get a call regarding the delivery of the laptop on Friday morning, I gave HP a call asking what's up. They said they overlooked it ( what the hell ) and I'll be receiving it later today. They said they could have delivered it on Saturday if not for the rally but..still..stupid excuse in my opinion...but ah well, gonna get it today....

hope that helps
