You've come to the right place to ask these questions  biggrin.gif
According to Gobind, our gov announced that they'll shut down analogue TV on end of Q1 2019, but they did not specify the exact date. Who knows it might get delayed again, because it has been postponed for quite a few times already. But anyhow, just keep fingers crossed that it will be shut down on time and won't get delay again.

Still using 3C2V cable type? Maybe it's time to get it replaced and lay a new cabling. Not to say 3C2V cannot, but if there is a choice, I would go for RG6 coaxial cable. As to my best knowledge, people nowadays won't opt for 3C2V cable anymore la. RG6 cable is very commonly used nowadays. Like now, you can't get digital TV signals and you know that you know that you're using 3C2V cable, I assume the cabling must be 10-20 over years already lol, then just get it replaced to RG6 cable.

Assuming you're using outdoor UHF antenna, as long it is still in good condition, where the antenna's "metal rods" are still in good condition (not too rusty, or severely bent, or some rods have been missing), and the connector port of the antenna is still in good condition, then do continue use it.

It depends on your receiving location (where do you stay). If your area is too far away from transmitter towers, or rough terrains, and other surrounding factors, both analogue and digital TV signals can become poor and unstable, or no signal for digital TV. If you can receive analogue TV channels clearly without too much static, it shouldn't be a big issue to receive digital TV signals. If you stay in a rural or remote areas, then maybe there is a possibility that you might face some reception issues.
But to most of the cases, you will be able to receive digital TV signals properly. Unless, if MYTV is up to something fishy on their transmitter towers, like technical reception issues, then I have no comment but to just complain and bring up the issue to their customer service.

Because digital TV is, if there is adequate signal, you can see everything. If the signal is poor, then you see nothing. Got means got, don't have means don't have. If "half-half" signal (means poor or marginal signal), you'll see pixelation (a lot of boxes, and freezes) like you playing a scratches DVD disc. Pretty straightforward. Also, if you use any signal booster (masthead amplifier), do consider power it off and remove it, as this might cause signal overload for the digital TV signals, and it might be the culprit that you get "No Signal" on digital TV.

In simple words, Njoi is better than MYTV (myFreeview, digital TV) because Njoi has more channels for you to watch compared to MYTV (at least for now).

Njoi is a free-to-view satellite TV service from Astro. So yes, you still experience rain fade issue same like Astro.
Do you experience any signal disruption issue on your analogue TV during rain? Well, it is the same thing for MYTV digital TV too,
Unless if the signal reception are unstable especially if antenna installation are not properly done, it won't cause interruptions one.

If terrestrial TV (MYTV digital TV/analogue TV) and satellite TV (Njoi/Astro) is out of the option, then your only option left is Internet.

When you say "iptv", I assume you are referring to those illegal streaming services where you can watch hundreds to thousands of channels from various countries either for free or some affordable subscription types by using a TV box, do note that service quality from those underground IPTV services are not guaranteed, and yes, it's illegal, so use it at your own risk.

Or, you can opt for the legal streaming services such as Netflix, iflix and many more. Or, just consume content online like from Facebook, YouTube, and others. At the end of the day, it depends on what kind of content you want to watch la.

Hope you learnt something new today.

wow bro...very clear explanation from u...now i understand why they need to close the analogue...

cabling definitely need to change...tats quite headache especially for those rooftop 1...because no easy if done by myself...but no choice...haha
my antenna need to changed as well...will buy those support 120km+ even my place less than 70km from tower...
my existing one are vhf+uhf+orange box+white box...analogue is ok but digital totally scan nothing...no really sure is booster problem that you mentioned or not...

no issue for my analogue when raining...so hopefully my mom can enjoy the digital channel without any issue even bad weather
iptv i meant is unifi tv that last time provided by tm...no those illegal one...i wont support all tat...haha
iptv i guess is the best in terms of stability but too bad it comes with unifi package only...

thx bro again for ur explanation...learnt alot today...i will buy antenna and rg6 cable later...
hopefully no prob....thx again....

First, where is your location?
I doubt that the analogue signal will close on 31 March although it was tentatively scheduled on Q1 2019, especially for reliably issues in Johor Bahru when there is co channel interference between Indonesian analogue TV and Malaysian DTT. The coverage isn't complete too. Furthermore, there is little communication regarding digital TV switchover on TV.

Njoi is an good option too. It has far more channels to view for. However the picture quality for SD channels on Astro/NJOI is inferior than of MYTV due to usage of ancient MPEG-2 coding. Plus the usual rain fade issues.

my place is perak...shud b no prob
due to rain issue i dun choose njoi...
hopefully no prob for me after change to digital even raining time ^^

If your UHF antenna is still in good condition, then I don't see the need to buy a new antenna.

1) Do make sure your TV supports built-in DVB-T2 standard for digital TV.
If your TV doesn't support digital TV or only supports DVB-T standard, you got to buy a digital TV set-top-box which you can get one from MYTV, or buy to a brand new TV that supports DVB-T2.

2) Try power off your masthead amplifier (the white box, near your TV), and see if you can receive digital TV signals.

3) Do you have this thing in between the connection from TV to your rooftop antenna? If you don't have this, then just ignore.

Are you able to receive digital TV signals now?

sorry i forgot to mention....actually my vhf+uhf fell down before...but still can use for analogue..but only good quality 8tv and ntv7 can watch (lucky my mom juz watch these 2...haha)...tv1, tv2, tv3 sometimes good but most of the time ok only...
and my 3c2v cable is around 15m...so i guess all these broken antenna+long cabling+booster make 0 scanned result

1. no worry...my mom already got 1 free mytv decoder

2. actually ytd i did try skip the white box and direct plug in tv...cannot...then i tried another method by follow this link (https://www.disablemycable.com/quick-test/) provided by previous page here...still cannot... then juz now follow ur way by turning off the white box...still cannot also...

3. no...my antenna only got orange box (combine vhf & uhf cable) + white box

i give up nw...haha
willl buy the new antenna + rg6 cable
if still cannot then call installer and pay them lor (hopefully no la)
thx again bro...

Perak DTT (digital terrestrial television) frequency is either 666MHz or 698MHz. To make it faster, just perform manual scan on this frequency. Make sure the bandwidth is set as 8MHz.

May I know you stay at which part of Perak? Can your nearby neighbours able to get DTT signals? I just got the info that not entire Perak can get DTT reception (coverage may not be complete in entire Perak).

Okay. Once you receive your antenna and finish laying the cable, you do a manual search on 666MHz (Channel 45), and then monitor the signal strength reading while you align the antenna. Once you get signal, continue align until you get the highest Signal Strength % reading possible, then tighten the screws to complete the installation. Also, do make sure the "BER" reading is zero, and it is not fluctuating. You can check those signal parameters at "Diagnostics" menu on your MYTV box.
*
done installed ytd after received the antenna and cable...tired...
finally can receive the digital channel...hohoho
best strength is 76%~80% and quality 98%...
but i dun see "BER" reading...what is that?
picture quality is better...but my mom cant feel it...maybe my tv is 32" only...haha

cost for outdoor antenna + 15m rg6 cable RM60.30
stand set RM18 (quite expensive i think...bought at local shop at town)
so that's total cost to convert to digital...considered ok la...hehe

anyone know what is the usb port in mytv decoder basic for? recording only?
and anyone know what is the wifi function for? and how to type "@" in the decoder? can't find pg+/- in the setting...
in future maybe will get a better decoder that can play movie thru usb also...all in one decoder.... brows.gif

Congrats... We'll, as long you can watch DTT without any reception issues, then don't need to bother about that BER then...
32 inch is too small to see a greater difference. Go for 42 inch and above, or 60 inch for 4K TV, if you have the budget la.

USB port is useless for now, and MYTV said it is "Reserved for future use". Some people use that port to charge their phones, although it wasn't meant for that purpose, since the USB port does output very low power, so the charging time to fully charge your phone may takes 4+ hours.

Can you attach pictures of your MYTV box, as well as the packaging box as well? Thanks.

after a rain...cannot get any single channel anymore...
even rain stopped still same...no sure what happen...
gotta use back analogue now...zzzz
digital channels really so lousy or malaysia 1 lousy only? vmad.gif

Did you buy this MYTV box from Shopee?
https://shopee.com.my/MYTV-Decoder-Siaran-D...84212.792302418

Based on your packaging box, it seems that your MYTV box can support 4K UHD and HEVC H.265 video codec. Lucky you, cuz not everyone gets a digital TV box from MYTV that supports 4K UHD video resolution.
Basically means, if MYTV transmits 4K UHD channel in the future, your digital TV box will be able to support and you can watch it on your 4K TV.
nono....sent free by mytv 1...tats why got "unit dekoder percuma bukan dijual"
support 4k but also useless bcos dun hv 4k tv sweat.gif

QUOTE(joshhd @ Mar 1 2019, 11:14 PM)
Can you take a pic of your antenna installed at your rooftop?

You use your new antenna and cabling to watch analogue TV? Is it better than your previous old antenna with 3C2V cable one?
yaya...but no all channels...
8TV and NTV7 same quality...
TV1 - TV3 better quality (my vhf antenna last time half broken 1)
but all these i never tune again after change antenna (never tot gonna use back analogue ranting.gif)...i guess mayb can get better quality)

QUOTE(joshhd @ Mar 1 2019, 11:14 PM)
Nope. It seems that the problem comes from your side, not digital TV problem. Double check the F connector port of your cable connection between antenna to MYTV box is properly and correctly connected. Here's a reference:
user posted image

If the cable has no issue, then try realign the antenna again.
You monitor the BER reading, make sure it's "0" (e.g. 0.000) and not showing any numbers and fluctuating.
I don't have MYTV box myself, but I used it before, and I can't exactly remember which menus to press. You try navigate and look for option like these  "Settings>Installation>Diagnostics"
*
I just try with the box again...can get the sd and hd test channel only...but strength is around 50% only..
i will check the both connectors again...antenna side is done by me...but i think both should be fine...
i will try check the "BER" reading again...because really cant remember it got "BER"...haha
evening only can go rooftop...now so wet and slipping...somemore analogue still can use then no rush...mayb after 2 days rclxm9.gif

Oh, this antenna is Thailand brand one. I saw this before.
It appears that your antenna is pointing towards your rooftop. The long long part that points towards your rooftop, suppose to point towards a clear line-of-sight towards the nearest TV transmitter. Do relocate your antenna to the higher part of your rooftop, and make sure there's no obstruction along the way.

Bro...no choice ar...i have to use back the same cabling hole from the old one ar...
if relocate then i need to go between roof and ceiling there...that one i never enter...cannot simply go in ar...haha
so this thailand antenna no good enough? it said support up to 120km wo...what antenna u r using?
if really need to relocate the antenna, i have to hire pro 1...mayb need to wait analogue totally cannot use first...haha

I didn't say it's not good... I'm just highlighting that this is Thailand brand only... Lol. Not made in Malaysia or China or whatsoever. This antenna model is pretty much readily available to purchase in Malaysia, particularly online, although it is from Thailand. Like if you want to buy new antenna for digital TV, usually those sellers and installers would recommend you this model. That's all.
yaya...i understand...i just worried u might heard bad review only...
i choose it because cheap and support within 120km...

QUOTE(joshhd @ Mar 2 2019, 01:09 PM)
If relocate the antenna is not possible, how about replace your antenna pole into longer pole, so that you can place your antenna higher than now? High until your antenna can get perfect or near clear line-of-sight view towards your TV transmitter, or nearby surroundings.

No need to wait till analogue can't watch only switch one. When you have digital, why still watch on analogue? (Unless you tell me you love watching the analogue static, to make it feel like you enjoy using old technology)
when i buy i wan higher pole...but the seller only got this...and i never tot digital reception little block by roof also cannot sweat.gif
but now even can get higher pole...i might need extend the cable...now the cable ngam ngam only doh.gif

QUOTE(joshhd @ Mar 2 2019, 01:15 PM)
Oh that's good to hear. When you do antenna alignment, do monitor your signal reading on your MYTV box, keep adjusting until you get highest % reading possible.

Last time when people align antenna for analogue TV, they will align while tell someone to watch the TV screen whether the reception is clear or not. Like, tell the other person watching the TV screen to "shout" to the person who align the antenna.
But that's not the case for digital TV. You have to monitor signal % readings while align, not by determine whether you can watch that digital TV channel or not.
Hope that clarifies.
*
yaya...will realign like this first...
if really cannot...then only consider higher pole or relocate by hire ppl...
but i still dun see the "BER" reading...is it new decoder no longer got this...manual i cant find also...

Cable not long enough? How to extend a RG6 cable to make it longer?
Of course, don't literally cut the cable, and then join 2 cables by making sure the copper core touches to each other and tape it. This is not electrical wiring yea. Doing this will loss a lot of signal (until very very low) and potentially might get short circuit.

Don't worry. Use this joiner, and you won't get signal loss.
user posted image
Get another RG6 cable, connect F connector port, and use this joiner and connect it to each other. Once done, remember to tape the joiner with a black PVC electrical insulation tape as tight as possible to prevent rain water from getting in.
Since you are at least, able to receive intermittent digital TV signals, and the signal reading is very high when you can receive it, that's a good sign that digital TV coverage is available in your area. Perhaps, don't try relocate first, do try out some other alternative solutions first.

Not to say "cannot" la. Usual outdoor antenna are supposed to be pointing towards the direction of a nearby TV transmitter, and without obstruction whenever possible.
I know it may be not possible, but can you try to adjust your antenna point slightly upwards to the sky to see if signal improves. If it impoves, do take a photo and show us.
*
last time my 3c2v really joined like this icon_idea.gif
tried the alternative...it is worsen
but i think i found the main prob already...
i terbalik the green connector box and the box is full with water when raining and lost signal i guess...
now i terbalik make it upwards like the pic...it shud be fine from now...anyway...still need to wait heavy rain come only knows sweat.gif
i changed the direction to east 111 degree towards the white building in the pic...amazing can get max 98% strength...

If possible, please tie the cable coming out of the dipole to the main bone of the antenna, so that it becomes parallel immediately coming out of the dipole, before going down.

In the pictured position, the soldering of the connector to the dipole will definitely come off soon, due to the force being exerted by the cable. I've seen cases before where signal suddenly became weak, and discovered that the soldering inside the dipole (between the connector and the circuit board) had broken.

When the pole is too long like 3m, which I tried before, it will start to swing expecially  when strong wind hit on it. Signal reception will be affected too. You need to have a strong and more stable footing.

Ohhh, didn't notice the small "green box" on your antenna at first. My bad. sweat.gif Glad that you solve the issue. For me, that's probably because the signal is very strong in your area, so your antenna position may not necessary must be very direction-oriented. Not to say it will be definitely works like this, cuz it really depend on your location, like surrounding factors and geographical.

Btw why there's another antenna right next to your new antenna? Is it for your another room or something?

my bad...lol
kinda weird because blocked by the big white house but signal strong pulak...haha
but pointing to the white house direction made my analogue signal very bad now...

if the satellite one can be encrypted and must use MYTV decoder to watch...how about antenna one? can antenna one be encrypted as well? but if can, then built in TV cant watch...so I guess antenna one they wont encrypt even if they can, right?
