You guys are right, looking at RTM, RTM has 15 Digital TV channels and only 1 channel (TV2) so-called caters to non malays, the rest for bumiputera. Clearly this is a political tool to gain mileage, targeting only the rural Malays. RTM should follow the same strategy as the Singapore government channels catering to all races if it wants to boost its popularity and support among the non-malays. In Singapore there are 2 Chinese channels, 1 Indian, 1 Malay and 3 English channels for Digital TV. RTM should open up its 15 digital TV channels with content in Chinese, Indian and English as well.
If MyTV follows the same strategy as RTM (catering to the malays) then they will surely fail. That's why I'm asking for a lot of quality content in English and Chinese on MyTV if they are going to implement 40+ channels next year. Heard that Media Prima is going to add more channels bringing it to a total of 9. Hope Media Prima will have more Chinese and English channels too. If all are Malay, then Media Prima's new channels are surely bound to fail. Astro only has 22-25 TV channels and 22 radio stations, cant compare with MyTV's offering next year of 40+ channels and later up to 80+ or even 100+ channels. But still we have to wait and see this MyTV and see how it fares. We have to wait and see what type of TV programmes they have and in what language. Then only we will know wether they are a quality TV service provider or not. Only time will tell. |

9M-MAS as quoted as saying >
This is inaccurate. MYTV doesn't operate on the same philosophy as ASTRO. Remember, MYTV is simply the company tasked by the government to provide and maintain digital terrestrial television *INFRASTRUCTURE*. They don't dabble in content provision like Astro. Content providers i.e. TV stations go to MYTV and pay a fee to be broadcasted through the infra. With ASTRO, AStro *GOES* to content providers, pay them a fee, and in turn charges viewers for it. To say that MYTV is "catering to Malays" is grossly inaccurate. Astro dabbles on its own in-house content provision, which as far as I can see, caters to mostly Malay-speaking audience - this I believe stems from where they believe advertising income will be derived. And remember, 12 of the 40 channels set to be broadcasted through MYTV are from EnjoyTV Holding S/B - they can provide nonMalay content (and probably will, judging from their current offering) if they like. In the end it all boils down to ADEX for the channels. It's all about making money. As it is, of the 7 analog FTAs, two feature Chinese programming prominently, both belonging to the same "Malay" company. RTM on the other hand is a government outfit, and not too strictly bound to profit & loss philosophy of private corporations. MYTV simply gets paid to air whatever channels are willing to pay for it and is not part of the content provision equation. Quoted > To say that MYTV is "catering to Malays" is grossly inaccurate. Astro dabbles on its own in-house content provision, which as far as I can see, caters to mostly Malay-speaking audience - this I believe stems from where they believe advertising income will be derived. Oh, I see, so non-Malays don't buy things? Just like you said the advertising income is derived from Malays. If you go to most of the shopping complexes in Klang Valley, or in fact not, Malaysia, you will see mostly Chinese buying things! And if that is not enough some commercial areas and shoplots too in some areas where Chinese shop and eat and dine there? Is that not non-Malays? And who says Astro only caters to the Malays? They got channels for every race be it Indian, Chinese, Malay, Black, White etc. |

Any update on MITV's or Freeview new digital TV channels?
Has the 40+ channels that were planned this year started broadcasting or they still have not confirmed yet? Any English or Chinese or multilingul TV channels? Any radio channels? Any Chinese or English content? I would like to see that 70% of MITV channels in English or Chinese. Seriously thinking of getting an MITV decoder and I will buy one if they have about 50+ channels this year where majority of the channels are in English or Chinese. |

I am looking for a digital terrestrial receiver or decoder with digital text or 2nd generation teletext or MHEG digital text function to receive RTMs digital text service as well as other channels like NTV7, RTM, 8TV, BNC etc like on the MITV decoders.
Any suggestions for decoder below RM100? |

I am one of the younger generation and its ironic that how with all the advertistments on MYTV Freeview done in FTA terrestrial channels like NTV7 and 8TV, many Malaysians are not aware of the digital switchover or even know what is MYTV.
I first new that Malaysia was going to broadcast Digital Terrestrial TV and Radio way back in 2007 when they announced it in the news on newspapers and TV at that time. RTM was spearheading the project and they were going to launch 15 digital TV channels around 2009 or somewhere around 2012. They did, however but the content was so-so with all the channels being in Malay except for TV2. I could pick it up with my cousins car/mobile Nakamichi Entertaintment/Multimedia unit/system that was DVB-T1/T2 ready. That unit was purchased and fixed in a car accessory shop in Singapore. Until MYTV tookover or became the carrier for DTTV broadcasts, since then RTM has stop the broadcast of extra channels except maybe for TV1, TV2, TVi and Al-Hijrah. Content on RTM channels are getting better as there are English content added to TVi as well as the other variety of programs on TV2. There are also some Korean programmes on TV2, mostly K-Pop. RTM also announced on Traxx FM/Radio 4 and Minnal FM/Radio 6 (RTM radio stations) that they will introduce new digital terrestrial TV channels with mix content. Hopefully it is mixed language content with all types of shows like movies, dramas, reality shows, variety shows, documentaries, docu-dramas etc. Another 4 digital TV channels will be introduced in the few years to come. 8TV and NTV7 has a lot of Chinese and Thai shows and some English content. Whereas TV9 and TV3, has respectively Korean shows and movies and English movies broadcasted late at night. TV2 also has some Chinese content broadcasted somewhere in the midnight-early mornings, after morning rush hour traffic and during the evenings. Drama Sangat with most content being in Malay also does air some Chinese dramas and I have seen this for myself but I am not sure when the come on air. Sometimes in the mornings, sometimes in the evenings, sometimes at night. Another thing is that the WOW shop channel should also add Chinese infomercials to their programming or schedule. The advantages that MYTV has over Astro Njoi is Astro can only offer only 27 digital sattelite tv channels free and so-so number of digital radio stations free because if they offer more channels free that will affect their income or bread and butter as their buisness model is such and cannot afford to offer all channels like on normal Astro or Astro Byond free as they will go bankrupt. Whereas MYTV, with different media companies broadcasting over their service can offer up to 88 channels free because they have a different buissness model. Companies can also make money through subscription service through PPV (Pay Per View) if they want to. On MYTV, PPV will be the extra channels that will bring the channel line up to 100+. They can also do that to radio stations. Astro NJOI can't compete with this. I heard that another 10-20 digital TV channels will be added to MYTV if they are confirmed, which is good. Hopefully content can be mostly in English, Chinese, Korean and maybe even Japanese. However, I still feel MYTV should add more digital radio channels. Hopefully by 2020, MYTV will have 88 digital TV channels with mixed language and mixed shows content. I have the original MYTV decoder and I even purchased another one under my relatives request and find that the MYTV decoder is much better than the off brand or China brand ones. It works like a charm, no lag and delays and switches on/off instantly and changes channels instantly and goes to various windows and menus or GUI On Screen Displays instantly. It is much better than the cheap off brand one I bought in Pasar Road that lasted me only for 2 weeks until it konked out. I dont agree the MYTV decoder is for the old and non-tech savvy individuals. I am an electronics enthusiast and hobbyist and I've worked in many tech companies in Malaysia and I have both Astro and HyppTV and a 55" Philips LED TV (with Interactive TV, HbbTV and 2nd Generation Teletext [MHEG Digital Text] capability) and as well have 2 A/V gadgets that looks like a VCR called an Interactive Multiplayer and a HTPC (with Kodi/XBMC) on my home theatre and also that I have even recommended TV Boxes to others, am using the MYTV decoder on my second TV upstairs. I am also interested in purchasing another one for my 55" Philips TV downstairs later. All I want to say is, TV on MYTV is not boring if you know what to watch, when to watch (catch) it and where to watch it (channel). PS: I feel that TV3 news is a bigger BN propoganda medium than RTM. |

Also I want to mention, the advantages digital terrestrial TV have over analog is that you can have EPG or programme info/schedule/guide displayed on your TV screen.
But for some channels on MYTV however I hope they update their EPG or programme info with synopsis. Another thing is that digital broadcasts is clearer than analog broadcasts. For the same spot you put your aerial and TV set receiving analog reception, you might get a noisy, fuzzy, with static or very grainy picture, hence not clear picture. But with digital reception you will get it clear as if the TV station is right next to your house. PS: Bernama News Channel (BNC) on MYTV also has some English content. |

I have both a Philips 55 inch LED TV downstairs and a Sanyo 25 inch CRT TV upstairs. I'm using MYTV decoder on the 25 inch TV upstairs. TV3 HD looks so tiny and small on the screen and there's no way to expand it if you watch it on a CRT. Other channels appear fine at 4:3 ratio.
You see, people still have CRT TVs kept and are using it. I'm not poor but there are many poor folk who still have their CRT TVs around and cannot afford to upgrade to a LED TV. There will be no problem for users of flatscreen wether they watch in 4:3 ratio or 16:9 format because on flatscreens you can scale them or adjust the viewing size. |

Any news about the 10 channels coming from Media Prima and RTM for MYTV?
Any news about the Chinese channels from Green Packet tie up with Chinese/Hong Kong broadcaster to broadcast Chinese channels on MYTV? What we need is more English/Chinese/Korean and Japanese content. Hope those 10 channels from Media Prima and RTM can offer mixed content with most of their programmes in English from US, Canada, Austrailia, New Zealand, UK, Europe and maybe South Africa? Hope they can also air sci-fi manga and anime like Terraforma, Patlabor, Macross, Robotech, Gundam, Ghost In The Shell etc. P.S.: TV2 keeps changing their schedule all the time.....what happened to that K-Pop show on every Saturday at 4:00PM? Yup screwed up this TV2, only good time slot and something worth watching they have is every Sunday nights between 8:30PM to midnight. At least there is 1 Korean drama and 3 English dramas back to back.
It would be good if any of the current existing channels and coming new channels would air America's Got Talent, X-Factor, Dance Mums, Killjoys, CSI Miami, Hawaii-5-O and the new X-Files (new season). It would also be good if they can have reruns of shows like Baywatch (TV Series), The O.C., Babylon 5, Space : Up, Above & Beyond, Seaquest DSV, Star Trek and Star Trek : Deep Space Nine and X-Files (old season). On TVi, what happened to that TV show "At home with Didiyer" that used to be aired on 4:30PM every Sundays?
For 3 weeks it has gone missing. They should show more English, Chinese, Japanese and Korean shows on MYTV. |

Recently after NTV7 got revamped, they've been showing some garbage shows, some of it rubbish.
NTV7 was much better off earlier before the revamp. They said their new shows and reruns of old shows are for the younger generation and the young, BUT from what I see they look like shows for the old and aging. My god, they don't know what the definition of cool is. NTV7 is so nerdy. Even the advertisements on their commercial slot now are all like garbage and have become so nerdy. They were much better off before. NTV7, give us more Chinese, Japanese, Korean, English and Latin American shows and not some borrowed Korean programmes from TV9. NTV7 was much better off BEFORE the revamp. |

Any news about:-
Green Packet's (P1) three new Chinese channels? RTM and Media Prima's 10 new channels? The other 19 unconfirmed channels from long ago? And whether Long TV can be received on both official and unofficial MYTV decoders (Digital Terrestrial Decoders)? |

Has NAM TV started broadcasting on MYTV?
They said they´re going to start broadcasting in January this year, but January came and went still no sign. Or do I have to retune/rescan/search/set/reprogram my decoder? Other channels all can receive and working fine. |
