what is SDR?

Actually, TV3 VHF is not mono audio. At least in Klang Valley. My TV has been picking up NICAM stereo signal from TV3 VHF as of late. Also, They also launch NTV7 on VHF channel 7 - how they're allowed that is a mystery, it's right next to channel 8 used by TV2.

I recall one frequency on VHF has been allocated for DMB-T radio. Previously they have TV on DMB-T as well, but as of late they stopped transmitting TV channels on DMB-T. Have to take out my old Pontus and scan again. The Pontus calls the frequency range "Band III" - the old name for VHF.

A live demonstration of a unique satellite and terrestrial hybrid 4K transmission system is in the works for the upcoming ABU DBS (Digital Broadcasting Symposium) 2014 Exhibition in Hotel Istana, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

For the demonstration, Village Island and Aviindos developed with MEASAT the idea to empower the live transmission through a DVB-S2 transponder. This follows a request from the DVB group to demonstrate dual 4K services on a single DVB-T2 channel. The demonstration is also in response to generic deployment trends in South-East Asia to deploy digital TV concurrently via satellite and terrestrial means.

Malaysia is well ahead with its plans to cease analogue TV transmissions, with the bulk of the country already viewing digital TV. The final switch-off is slated for April 2016.

I think it'll be user cost to install a proper and optimized UHF antenna. The STB is only half the story, the antenna being the other part.
As for antenna, never buy those RM30 or somewhere at that price kind of antenna..they don't last. For a long time I have confidence in 2 brands that were available at Jalan Pasar KL. DX Antenna and Maspro. Both are Japanese products and suited for our weather. Unsure still available or not.
The bigger the antenna (more reflector elements) the better. If not mistaken, supposed to point to Gunung Ulu Kali = Genting Highlands or Bukit Sungei Besi (Cheras area?) for KL. These 2 transmission points have been there for many decades, never changed.

The only annoying part is......some area has weird broadcast towers location.

Example, at my area. Antenna need to aim for many difference direction.

TV1 = point north.
TV2 = point east.
TV3 = point west.

That why when the darn strong wind + rain blew it down, I said, screw this and apply NJOI.
