Can anyone check the current bitrate used for TV3 HD? It doesn’t look like HD. Only the live news show a while ago looked better.

Current TV drama in TV3 HD is now being shown in 16:9 format. But it looks like low bitrate, or upscaled from 720.

Not officially launched yet. We can see “SIARAN UJIAN” below the wordings Siaran Digital @Freeview for CH 104, 105 and 106.

What I have been noticing so far for TV3 HD is that live shows like news are aired in HD, while dramas are generally still in SD (these are new drama series though). In addition, some programmes still use HE-AAC1 audio.

Picture quality wise, TV3 HD cannot beat Astro HD. In comparison, Astro HD > TV3 HD > TV AL-Hijrah HD.

That’s really good! Dolby Digital Plus 3/2.1.

Update on TV3 HD audio:
Dolby Digital audio quality depends on programmes. Audio of certain programmes come out from centre speaker only instead of multiple speaker channels, and it sounds really crap with unstable audio. Well, since it is under test, we may wait and see.

I am an audiophile and I have very sensitive ears. The audio is really unstable and it sounds like chopping sound and sometimes cut into pieces (but not very serious). And most of the time the audio only comes out from centre speaker. I am pretty sure Dolby Digital in Astro HD channels are way better than TV3 HD (under test) at this point in time.

To me, low audio quality is extremely obvious when TV3 HD airs Hindi drama series Naagin now, the audio sucks. Meanwhile the same drama Naagin aired by Astro CH108 Tara HD, its sound was superb with 5.1 surround effect.

I do agree that picture quality is more important than sound quality.

Agreed. These wordings (title and watermark) in digital TV channels are rather annoying and worthless.

As for Astro HD channels, I wish “HD” mark could be omitted. The less wordings, the better though.

I agree that the entire marketing and awareness programs done by Malaysia government is so wrong even in the beginning. They keep highlighting “FREE”. So what?! Not a big deal. Even without digital TV channels, all the while analogue channels are already free what! To watch digital TV channels, Malaysians have to fork out own money (except minority BR1M recipients) to buy set top boxes or upgrade their TVs to DVB-T2 ready TVs, besides the need of upgrading their antennas. Moreover, it’s our taxpayers’ hard earned money to fund the digital TV project.

Our government should emphasize clearer and quality picture, rather than FREE thingy. I’m not sure what other people think about this, but I am quite irritated with this so-called FREE thingy because all the while analogue channels are free-to-air channels.

Just to add, some areas need to install outdoor antenna to receive MYTV signal. It is quite costly to install antenna on roof.

In fact, Njoi is much much better than the current myFreeview as Njoi not only consists of all myFreeview channels, it also comes with some free Astro channels (including Astro Arena sports channel) and some HD channels.

Finally we have some MYTV fans here.

88 channels? Trust me, it's not going to happen. With MYTV charging unreasonable high transmission fee, very less players would be interested in adding new channels. In the end, it is still dollors-and-cents commercial decision. Sadly government treats DTT project towards more profit oriented, rather than social responsibility.

While the original concession awarded to MYTV back in January 2014 was for 15 years, this has now been extended to 30 years. Chan confirms the extension but says there are still some technical conditions to be fulfilled.

I wish to see a pure English channel (not rojak languages) added in MYTV platform.

I’m quire sure the analogue switch off date for Malaysia will be extended.

As for new TVs in the market, you’d be surprised that some TVs being sold in Malaysia are still not equipped with built-in DVB-T2, especially TVs with lower end specs and low prices from Hisense and Sharp. However those new TVs are rejected and cannot be found in Singapore.

TV3 HD is testing Dolby Digital Plus 3/2.1 again. Its audio quality is better than HE-AAC but still far from Astro HD channels if you have 5.1 setup.

I can use my condo master antenna to receive digital TV channels. FYI, my condo is within 15km from KL Tower. Signal quality is only 60% so it is very unstable whenever there is human or object movement near the TV.

However, when I connect my TV with an external antenna (cheap antenna below RM10 bought from hypermarket), signal quality stabilizes at 95%-100%.

FYI, my condo has been completed for 8 years. The master antenna on the roof top of my condo is for analogue channels. Anyway, I can receive both analogue and digital TV channels using the master antenna but the signal quality for digital TV channels is around 60%-65%. Sometimes I can even receive digital TV channels using the centralized Astro antenna in my condo, and the signal quality is weak, about 50%-60%. Only when I use an external antenna, the signal quality for digital channels boosts to 95%-100%.

I guess you misunderstood my statement.

I mentioned that I tried to use a coaxial cable to connect my TV to the Astro port (centralised Astro antenna) to receive MYTV channels, not Astro channels. By doing this, I can sometimes still receive digital TV channels, but the signal quality is rather weak and unstable.
