I think beginner or pro the difference is not type of gear but being able to experience, differentiate, describe and relate the sound for better understanding.

I may buy good expensive headphone but if I cannot break it down, describe and fully master it, understand it and relate to other cans, then I think I am still not consider pro smile.gif

Beginner like me is very easy to appreciate the sound of many types of headphone, but it does gets harder if I try to describe the sound. And even harder to do it and measure it in a consistent basis since psychoacoustics, brain burn-in and all that factors come into play

One week I think X headphone is good. Another week I think Y is better. Then next month X is better than Y. Then 2 months after, I will end up saying X is X, and Y is Y doh.gif laugh.gif

I'm enjoying the ATH ES7 at this very moment.

Pretty good stuff...  I've always liked its style and I've had many good listens to it, but to actually have it for a few nights..  impresses me more...
I got these for the GF biggrin.gif but am listening to it FIRST!!  LOL

Very AudioTechnica styled treble and mids, fleet footed and light. Slightly grainy.. analog sounding. With a sumptuous subbass boost. Love how they avoided boosting too much of the midbass and concentrate on accentuating the lower bass instead. Very obvious when compared to the b&w p5. P5s have weaker subbass and stronger midbass. P5s are much better at the mids and less energy up top. The P5s overall are still a class above the ATH ES7 and the most laid back, non-fatiguing headphone ever but I can see many that will prefer the ES7 over the P5s, especially over a quick impression. A quick switch will make the P5s seemed 'veiled' due to their polite treble.

The ES7 frequencies are coming off as a little choppy sounding. The treble, mids and bass are not really seamlessly put together. Might have some uneven peaks here and there but overall still GREAT!!

Now.. I'm gonna just bend this.. ridiculously shaped headband...

Sidenote 2: There is a WHITE version of the Bowers & Wilkins P5.. dear lord... it looks.. so.. cool... I should get a pair for the gf (or my next GF) so we can walk down the street looking cool together. The improved earpads on the P5s also improved its sound quality across the spectrum.
