Hi just to follow up on the Kingston 8GB DataTraveller, here is an official response from Kingston, CODE So far Kingston never produce any model of DataTraveler flash drive in 8GB capacity. Detail please see below: http://www.kingston.com/flash/datatraveler_home.asp
The photo attached on the forum was fake. The outside packaging shown it was KUSB/8G (we only have upto 256MB for this series model) but the casing design was DTI/xxx version.
Hereby is the verification website, every data traveller outside packaging will have their own SN # and AC (or LK) number for the verification purpose. Detail pls see below: http://www.kingston.com/asia/verify/default.asp
We do have customer wrote to us on the problem they encounterred after using 8G fake pen drive, hereby is a few common symptom found: -Windows XP recognises KUSBDTI/8gb Data Traveller USB Flas Drive but will not open. -I have just bought a 8 Gb Kingston flash Memory. It has worked fine but it has now a very strange behaviour. Whenever I plug in the device it says "insert disk in the player" -Two weeks ago I bought usb flash drive of 8 giga in china.Every thing was ok I saved picture on it and use it,but suddenly all the data "gone" and when I double click on it it's written"please insert a disk" -I purchase 4 memory flash in China, non of them works. KUSBDTI/8GB SN:Tco7773-00156959 LK:A510M1D-5380562U - How are you?my name is amr elkilany?,i am living in cairo,?egypt. i have a problem concerning a kingston flash memory, data travler 8GB,i have got more than 35 kingston flash memory from dubai they are all 8gb,and they are all stop working after only one use. They are all read 0 bytes
Purchase fake part will have risk on the functionality and there will not be any way to get warranty, all these should take into consideration.
In checking the capacity, we would suggest you reformat the pendrive fast and right click to the pen drive disk drive, to check the property, and look for the capacity.
Again, thanks for your valuable information.
Thanks & Regards,

This maybe mentioned before, but you guy do know that pretty much all flash based storage (usb/memory) are based on NAND technology that has a limited write times of 100,000 (low end) to 1 million. Most likely other components will fail before the NAND memory, but to take into consideration of programs or OS that frequently write and rewrite to usb/flash memory. Use for mainly back up/file transfer...
Of course u could claim the lifetime warranty and ... yadah... yadah... yadah

Use for mainly back up/file transfer...... so true. so, that's why i just go for the cheap and "ok" speed flash drive. too slow one... time wasted... time is invaluable... too fast one... sure very expensive... for "a 25MB/s vs a 10MB/s (read)" or "a 10MB/s vs a 6MB/s (write)", 512MB flash will just save u around 30sec... if... you are copying a 512MB single file. else... roughly the same.
