Greetings,

What's Picaday
Picaday's (This Thread) is created for you guys to share any interesting pictures that you snap daily and also for those who don't have a thread @ Photo Gallery due to any reason.

Picaday's Rules and Regulations
- No, Picaday is not a place for you to spam or increase your post count. Picaday's main objective is to encourage more people to post their pictures here and share knowledge among each other.
- Only post pictures taken by you using Digital Cameras be it from a Point-and-Shoot, Prosumers or DSLR. Pictures snapped by cameraphones are prohibited in Picaday.
- Use the spoiler tag whenever you are quoting someone's picture in Picaday.
- Photographs posted must not exceed 1024px in either width or height.
- One-liner comments e.g. "Niceeeee~~!!!" are considered as spam. Kindly include the reason why you like or dislike his/her picture or suggest ways to improve the shot should you want to comment on someone's photo. Please do not go off topic.
- Don't post your pictures here if you are those weirdos who can't accept genuine critiques or comments on your pictures. You have been warned. This place is for everyone to share their view be it a compliment or critique on your photos and we don't want immature photographers crying like a little girl after getting some genuine comments.

Get Started Now!
- Kindly copy, paste and edit the code below to tag your pictures so that it's easier for others to comment on or to learn from.

AFAIK, never put the horizontal line(between land and sky) at the middle of the pic.. try to apply the rule of third, by that way you will focus either on land or sky.
Im still learning too.. blush.gif

This is my first time I get to photograph flowing water in nature and i did not have a tripod so i was forced to place my camera on a bench which ruined the composition.

i didn't use a ND filter.. Yes i used long exposure... 1.6seconds.. Because the conditions were bright that time i can't expose too long.

for 'creamy' water, 0.5s is sufficient to achieve the effect..

Added on June 12, 2011, 7:04 pmand a tripod too (or something solid you can rest your camera on) if you want real sharp images

back from camp in bentong...
This is my first time I get to photograph flowing water in nature and i did not have a tripod so i was forced to place my camera on a bench which ruined the composition.

Panorama shot at Angry Bird Playground event.

Actually had a couple more frame to attach but Photoshop freeze up trying to align it ... So had to do with this. Maybe because the right side, wrong exposure, too dark photoshop cant align it. Much like autofocus in dark .. lol.

Camera Nikon D90
Exposure 1/500
Aperture f/3.5
Focal Length 18mm

indeed. however you need to compensate with the light available to you.
*
QUOTE(fruitie @ Jun 12 2011, 07:26 PM)
Can try using smaller aperture to compensate the long exposure? Use low ISO as well? hmm.gif

yup i compensate with either aperture, exposure bias or ISO.. but have to do it early in the morning.. approaching noon no matter how i compensate it will be too bright...

i said, 0.5s is sufficient.. but it also doesn't mean that the longer the exposure the better, you will just introduce more movement in other elements apart from the water to be recorded ie. shrubs movement, grass swaying in the wind etc. At the end of the day, its up to how you want your end image to look like.

photoscape doesnt change the resolution if you know what settings you are changing/using. and by the way, its called watermark smile.gif

No, its not HDR, I just do simple adjustment of Level & Curves in P'shop.
Thats right, I 'move' the branch a little bit to the left, to make the composition good enough (for me hehe)...

I see... but gonna buy the shutter release cable 1st, so that i can use smaller aperture and lowest ISO. I love to shoot at night and HDR because you'll never know what's your photo looks like.

The same goes to me huhu, we who use 135mm not so lucky last night, but if the weather clear,
I mean if there is no clouds, we also can get better capture. The best is to crop only at 50% not 100% tongue.gif
I'm processing my capture right now, will post it here after finished biggrin.gif

Annamir, I've always admire your post processing. Care to share some tips how you get that type of texture of the photo?
I compared some of my photos to yours (even from your flickr) they are all great and they are 100k miles away from mine.
I'm pretty much frustrated with mine I can say

This is my first attempt for OOB pictures, I can't figure out how to make it look like there's a lake/water, other than the reflection itself.
I'm trying to make it so that the entire lake/water area is visible. Still trying!!

P.S which one better? I prefer the first one though

For me its better without any reflection effect, unless you create the reflection more real.
Nice OOB trial btw, kipidap rclxms.gif

Thanks smile.gif

Without the reflection, it will look weird with just 2 hands.

Can help me on how to improve the reflection?? Still can't figure on how to put a lake below

Annamir, I've always admire your post processing. Care to share some tips how you get that type of texture of the photo?
I compared some of my photos to yours (even from your flickr) they are all great and they are 100k miles away from mine.
I'm pretty much frustrated with mine I can say
*
Thanks sahabat biggrin.gif
For your Q above, did you mean texture of my previous photo?
If yes, then the photo is about the sunset sky's reflection on the lake,
no texture were used, it is originally an image of reflection on the lake surface,
and there is a little bit waves in the water.

I have shots with less motion blur, but fire not as impressive as this one. Oh well, if you do 1/60s or so, this tends to happen as the cars are braking and vibrations on the front and rear absorbers.

if you fill the frame too much ,
left and right of the subject will appear obviously blur,

zoom out a bit more and make it more "centered" will make it appear sharper on whole thing,
then crop it out.

i did this when shoot aeroplane. biggrin.gif

I using no cost method (no extension tube, ring, dioptic or watever), follow the steps:

1. set the aperture to any aperture u want, then press n hold the depth of field button (for canon, its found near your dismount lens button) then use another finger to press the dismount button, u can see ur aperture blade didnt return to default.
2. Im using 50mm f/1.8 therefore, the front lens can be insert in, but still need to hold it but atleast the lens wont easily move XD.
3. Im using external flash mount on top of my camera with manual control of light n diffuser panel.

U set the aperture, then only dismount the lens. That way, u get the aperture u want
*
QUOTE(jitshiong @ Jun 26 2011, 07:52 PM)
Can, u have to press the apreture button while dismounting it...
go try it..
hehehe!
*
QUOTE(David900924 @ Jun 26 2011, 11:27 PM)
I using no cost method (no extension tube, ring, dioptic or watever), follow the steps:

1. set the aperture to any aperture u want, then press n hold the depth of field button (for canon, its found near your dismount lens button) then use another finger to press the dismount button, u can see ur aperture blade didnt return to default.
2. Im using 50mm f/1.8 therefore, the front lens can be insert in, but still need to hold it but atleast the lens wont easily move XD.
3. Im using external flash mount on top of my camera with manual control of light n diffuser panel.
*
I believe these methods only applicable to Canon, not Nikon. The only way to manually set aperture size for Nikon lenses is to use the older lenses, the ones with aperture ring on them.

Its get me almost 45 minutes to finished the post processing.
Basically, for the shot like above, you have to shot twice and set in your mind (or have a storyboard) what kind of effect you want to create later.
So then in P'shop, you have to play with several layer, specially at the hand part, shadow of the hand, aero effect on your screen lcd and also the lcd screen itself is a print screen capture wink.gif

Ya, to apply OOB is quite hard for those who aren't familiar with P'shop. But if you manage to try it several time it will become easy then wink.gif

David900924, because the aperture was shut at its smallest, the diffraction is kicking in, causing the sugar granules to lose a bit of sharpness, especially at the edges. But overall, it looks cool though..

I beg to differ, because when you pan at shutter such as 1/60s and also the direction of the car moving. Part of the car is moving faster/slower therefore only certain part will appear 'sharper' and some part motion blur. Only way to counter this is faster shutter that will reduce panning effect but overall 'sharper' pic.

I was shooting f/10 at a distance of 26.6m away. I don't think it is a DOF issue due to aperture.

David900924, because the aperture was shut at its smallest, the diffraction is kicking in, causing the sugar granules to lose a bit of sharpness, especially at the edges. But overall, it looks cool though..

Nikon 50mm f/1.8D has aperture ring, so all he needs to do is to control through the ring.

Its easy, if u r canon user, u juz press and hold the depth of field button with 1 finger than another finger press the lens release/dismount button, ta-da.. now u have set ur aperture in ur lens.

he said his lens was on reverse mounting, so i reckon the DOF preview wouldnt work.. my A700 has DOF preview button too, not only canon has it smile.gif

Awesome panorama... Damn damn damn wide... Lol... Did yu use a tripod? Cause from the shadow at the bottom seems like you weren't. And even with a tripod how do you keep things so steady for shots like these?

I knew PnS could do it and so could my iPhone... But (and I'm sorry cause I'm pretty new to photography) I've come across some of thos "panorama" tripod heads and they're freakin' expensive... So I was just wondering if there was a cheap and chearful way of doing it....

normally its not steady one, you shoot a few shots sure some of them will be tilted, so people campur all the shots into PS into a panaroma and crop it to a rectangle smile.gif

Next time I had better not get this close to such a competition. There was this girl, somehow she was still holding on while the others had let go. She flew right into me and my camera. Nothing happened thankfully. Shielded the camera with my arms, suffering a small cut in the process.

Very good shot there!! Did you do anything to the background?  smile.gif

thanks.. nope, nothing done to background. it is shown as how it is out from camera. f/16 and 1/500s, ISO200 with flash, that's how..

100% crop.

No time to position my SB600 (off camera slave mode) so just shoot with available light (and later edit in photoshop to brighten it ...). This spider running away very fast.
