5.1 is dropping in 1-2 days .... damn, need to upgrade my 4.3.3 iPad 2 to 5.0.1 tonight. Upgraded my wife's iPad a couple of weeks ago, now need to update mine. No SHSH saved (warranty set, got it on 4.3.3 but by then Apple already released 4.3.5 ...)

Decisions, decisions ..... 5.0.1 it is ....

This will probably be the last jailbreak the iPad 2 will have before the ipad 3 comes out and with the difficulties in jailbreaking the iPad 2 and A5 devices (all userland exploit), it's going to get a lot tougher with the iPad 3

I got a PM from someone offering a jailbreaking service smile.gif (good that he is pro-active and trying to make some money which is fair)

Had to decline coz I'm pretty sure I can do it myself and I actually have jailbroken the 4s and the iPad 2

Very easy jailbreak especially if you do a fresh restore and run Absinthe. Restore the backup once the jailbreak is done.

Easy peasy.

Version 0.43 should be able to run on Windows.

Try this (taken from LUiZINH0 )

QUOTE
First time use CMD?

Let´s go.

First, ensure the compatible Firmwares:
iPhone4S: 5.0 (9A334), 5.0.1 (9A405) and the “other” 5.0.1 (9A406)
iPad2: 5.0.1 (9A405) <--- ONLY WIFI, NOT 3G

Download, version 0.4.3, Read post 3.

Unzip files into root dir, like C:

1. Press, in your keyboard WINDOWS+R (Run windows) and type: "CMD" (Without quotes), and press ENTER
2. On windows is open (BLACK WINDOWS) type the commands withouts quotes: "CD .."
3. "cd cinject_0.4.3"
4. Now your machine will stay that way: (C:\cinject_0.4.3>) <-- DO NOT TYPE THIS
5. Run first command withou quotes: (Submit by CAPSLOCKON)
a. "cinject.exe -i payloads/jailbreak.mobileconfig"
- IMPORTANT. On device, accept the script, and next next finish (without password)
6. "cinject.exe -j payloads"
- IMPORTANT. Wait the backup. Sugest try with blank A5 device.
7. "cinject.exe -w"
8. Try to start Absithe, if you get error database, go to setting and turn on VPN and try again

Good luck

For OSX, you can directly download Absinthe and run the jailbreak

If you have jailbroken your iPad, never use reset and erase as you will brick your iPad. Jailbreaking would have moved some of the system files and doing the reset and erase would fail and your iPad will be stuck in the apple loop.

If you have jailbroken your ipad, you will need to use the Shift + restore method to wipe the iPad clean and reinstall the iOS 5.0.1, then you re-jailbreak.

The Absinthe Windows GUI has been released, maybe zamanjaafar can edit the OP and include the link to the guide.

Here's one from iClarified.

http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=19468

Enjoy the jailbreak smile.gif

Restore your iPad using the Shift + restore method. Kena download the full iPad 2 5.0.1 firmware and bila Shift + restore, point the prompt to where you downloaded the firmware. Set it as new iPad (jangan restore backup lagi)

Lepas tu follow the guide from iClarified using the Windows Absinthe GUI.

http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=19468

Sure boleh jalan. Lepas jailbreak, restore the Backup.

There is something in the host file that is causing the error. Check your host file and remove any lines with gs.apple.com in it.

Excellent. Since the jailbreak utilizes the backup/restore exploit in iTunes, having a large backup will cause some complications (not to mentioned taking a long time which causes high blood pressure heh heh heh) so having a fresh iPad 2 is ideal.

You can always restore your backup once the jailbreak is successful smile.gif

This is my suggestion.

1. Restore your iPad 2 (I hope you have an iPad 2 cause Absinthe only works with iPad 2, if you're on an iPad 1 then don't use Absinthe, use redsn0w)
2. Make sure you download the latest version of Absinthe
3. Run Absinthe (in my case, there was no need to do anything -- VPN etc etc ... not needed)
4. Once it says to run Absinthe in the iPad 2, just slide to unlock and find Absinthe and run it in the iPad 2

You should have a jailbroken iPad 2

how long usually it will take in the screen "Absinthe is now setting things up" ?
it has been 10mins and is still showing the same screen...
*
Someone has mentioned that it took him 30 minutes due to the fact that his backup was huge. One of the reason why people are recommending for us to Backup the iPad 2 prior to jailbreaking, restoring it to factory fresh and setting it up as a new iPad 2 and then jailbreaking and once the jailbreak is successful (which shouldn't take you more than 5 minutes), restoring the old backup.

Hi there im just  a newbie. My ipad aged for 3 months only..

I never experience how to JB b4.. So i hope u guys can help me to answer my question.
1) After we jailbreak, is it possible to return back to our apple original firmware (coz we use untethered JB)? So that we still can claim our warranty at apple store without they knowing we've been JB B4. If possible how ?( please guide me step by step coz i really dunno)

2) Why people really eager to do JB?? Is it we can get free application in apple store????

3) Why so many people got many problem when they try 2 JB their ipad?? Is it bcoz the JB still not stable yet?

4) Any tips to get successful JB?? Please share for those guys who successfully JB their IPAD 2...

*
1. Yes, just download the Apple firmware and do a Shift + Restore and your iPad will be restored to factory settings and your Warranty will also be "Restored"

2. A lot of tweaks that Apple disapprove of such as customisations of our themes etc etc. We don't condone piracy and some of the tweaks in Cydia are paid applications so you pay similar to the App Store.

3. The server maybe overloaded and jailbreaking is easy but not simple, there's a lot of coding and things happens.

4. Tips, as I mentioned above, What I did was to backup my iPad 2, restore it to factory fresh condition, set it up as a new iPad (don't restore the backup yet), run Absinthe to jailbreak and once the jailbreak is successful, restore back my Backup.

wtf ..yesterday before i do this. i make a backup around 2 am

and now i want to restore from backup..it only have backup from today 1pm ..

how???
*
Go to your iTunes Preferences and under the Devices Tab, it should have a list of your Backup. Check the time of the backup before your restore and that's the one you should choose when you are restoring your backup.

Absinthe will create a backup of your iPad 2 and it will be an empty Backup so choose an earlier backup file.

Then if wanna warranty claim how to remove the jailbreak if restore doesnt remove it?

You don't restore from backup, your restore the Firmware which will wipe clean your iPad 2 (including the jailbreak) and re-install the OS.
