I am located in Tawau, if you are ever in Tawau, and need to find some kaki, send me a PM, will send you my contact number. You are welcome to join us anytime.
Is the Sandakan Tennis Club  at mile 2 near the bus station, right? However last time I was in Sandakan tried searching for it, I couldn't find it. x-p I think the inter affiliate tournament just took place a few weeks ago and SAGA just ended , and your team won from Sandakan..
*
it's at the back of it. i'm sure one who isn't familiar with that place can't find it. i'm there mostly fduring the weekends cause i'm teaching in kinabaatangan most of the time. when you do drop by during the weekends, just pm me before. we can have a game.

I see. Hi Vincent, well, you can try YMCA which is near the Hindu Temple at Anderson Road... They entertain guest players... the other places are clubs and you'll need someone to bring you there if you wanna play there. Try it out!

It's damn cheap indeed. But too bad that most of us can't attend the weekday matches without taking leave from work.

Aiya, made flight reservation to bkk last year BUT its just a few days after the finals. Grrr.... next time must look at the atp schedule first..

Criteria for newbie racket, less than 300g, preferably not head heavy, at least 98 sqin headsize.
*
those new dunlop biomimetics sure look pretty good.. they have i think 2-3 frames that match your criteria...

I personally like wilson and prince frames though... that's just me...

those 2 wilsons seem to match your criteria though... try it! remember to demo first!

Helo! I've been playing tennis on and off but thinking of starting again since my friend is interested and we're both newbies XD;; So far I've only been rallying with the wall (sad life I know...)

I'm interested in getting a new racket since all the while I've been using one with the grip a bit too large. And since I know nuts about rackets, any sport store with the owner being able to provide recommendations?
*
If you're in KL, just drop by at topper sports or Ultimate Sports, they have good deals there... even in Pertama Komplex they have 1-2 shops on the first floor that gives good deals in both strings and racquets... but I regularly visit Topper Sports and Ultimate Sports instead... I even have their cards... I'll scan them and see if it'll help anyone

These 2 pictures are for ULTIMATE SPORTS

These are for TOPPER SPORTS...

Well, just hoping it'll help maybe those who need to know more details..

I am using currently 3 Wilson K6.1 95.s with added +-20grammes, which totals it to about 330 grammes, the weight was added to the bottom of the handle... I have been using Ashaway Crossfire Strings pulled to 54lbs-58lbs all my life and I don't think I've transitioned very well with any other strings....

I've tried:
Babolat Pro Hurricane Tour @ 56lbs
Technifibre Red code @56lbs
Technifibre Black Code @56lbs
Luxilon BB Alu Power Rough @55lbs
Luxilon BB Original @55lbs
Dunlop Synthetic Gut @60lbs

but I've never gotten used to these polyester strings... I've been tempted to try the Wilson Pro Champion's Choice and Natural Gut.... but $$$$$$ kept me back... tongue.gif

All 3 racquets currently strung with Ashaway Crossfire 17 at 54-58lbs.

I used to use Wilson Hyper Hammer 6.5 (the one Serena Williams used to have)

and was a steady Prince Triple Threat Scream (the yellow one) for many-many years before making a switch to the Wilson K6.1 95s....

If you wanna date back during the days when I just started.... hehehehe (ahhhh... the good ol' days when I was 9 years old) it was a Rossignol (can't remember the model honestly) and Head Aluminium Racquet...

hehehe... don't ask me about the string setup for those though...

you?

I am currently using a prostaff 6.0 95 chiao ta 16x18 version, my backup is a tecnifibre tfight 320 vo2max and head microgel prestige MP. All stock frames and not leaded up.. My string setup is always full poly, Redcode is my fav string followed by other polys like volkl cyclone, pacific polyforce, prosupex's , topspin's.

Started out using crossfire 2 but now have gone for more cheaper and durable strings.

My first racket i bought was like around 5 years ago which was a 2nd hand iRadical OS .. Then about 3 years back i bought my first brand new racket the wilson Kblade MP .

After i found out about the tennis forum in sg about 2 yrs + back , i sold my Kblade and tried;
-Tecnifibre Tfight 320
- Tecnifibre Tfight 320 vo2max (still keeping)
- Youtek speed pro
- Youtek speed MP 16x18
- Babolat pure storm
- Babolat pure storm GT
- Head microgel radical MP
- Head youtek prestige MP
- Prince tour diablo MP
- Prince tt warrior MP
- volkl quantum 10 tour (still keeping)
- dunlop aerogel 200 (still keeping)
- Head microgel prestige MP  (still keeping)
- Head youtek speed MP 18x20 (just bought cos it was on sale for 75 usd)

Some classic racket i am collecting (started this yr)
- Head trisys 260 bumblebee radical (made in austria)
- Prostaff 6.0 85 st vincent
- Head competition 2
- Head competition 3
- Wilson jack kramer autograph
- prostaff classic 6.1 95
- prostaff 6.0 95
*
1. WOw... after trying all those frames, which one was the best for you? the classic 6.1 95 still? nothing beats the old pro staffs eh?

2. speaking of the classics, any luck with collecting those st. vincent 85's? hehehe.. they sell for quite a bomber price in those forums in TT.

3. I used to demo a couple of racquets before buying i.e:
- Babolat Pure Drive Standard
- Babolat Aerodrive Pro Cortex
- Head Radical Microgel
- Head Prestige Microgel
- Dunlop aerogel 200/300 and Dunlop 4G 200
- Prince O3 Shark/Blue/Tour (I nearly went for the Prince o3 Tour)
- Wilson k6.1 Tour
- Wilson Kblade Tour

but finally went for the k6.1 95. don't know why but that frame just made me hit the ball more freely

@k3vin82

I've asked that many years back before. I know the price is absurd but the proshop doesn't see the need to follow the living timezone of racquets outside. Even members aren't given any discount for these racquets. I think cause they do not plan to rotate out these backdated sticks with new ones and that's why they've stuck to the original price for that long. I was interested myself to purchase those sticks but fell short because of their quotation.

tongue.gif If I could have convinced them otherwise, those sticks would have been inside my bag already... ehehehe

Added on June 16, 2011, 6:31 pmpretty smart collection of the classics there... when are you gonna organise a 'classic racquets' matchup with those cool woodies?

I'm quite sure even Topper sports and Ultimate Sports don't have such specific replacements... they don't even have bumper guards and replacement grommets. You'll have to get it in ebay or tenniswarehouse

Seeking advice for those who r using hybrid or whoever knows this.  I read from tw that when stringing hybrid, the string on main determine d hitting feel.

Personally I like crispy feel, but I got more feel when strung poly on main rather multi on main. I tried few times with same racket and same strings. Just alternating d main n cross combo. I definitely feel more lively n ball impact with poly on main. This is totally opposite with tw statement. Am I wrong?!?!
*
putting mains with multis don't necessarily mean it will lead to better feel of the ball. many claim they feel the polys give them a crisp feeling too. plus, some multis do feel deader compared to the softer polys.... one thing that is highly recommeded though is putting polys in the mains to increase the string's lifespan by a lot... cause the main strings are the ones getting a lot of friction...

whatever you seem best for your game is best. not 100% what TW says

damn man... it's like USD145 right? i don't think my game will suit such a small frame anyway... i'm sure it'll feel solid on the serves and volleys with such a small and thin beamed frame... post your reviews the moment you get some solid hitting time with em... and of course... PICTURES!!!

when i do get to singapore, i'll surely tell you guys to hook up for a tennis game dudes...

@tiangkim
i've always propogated WHAT YOU FEEL IS WHAT IS RIGHT. NOT What tw says all the time

@Dark_angel,

ya it definitely wont suit my game also.. it'll just go into my racket collection.. maybe will just take it out for a hit once in awhile .. never tried the chiao ta prostaff 85.. so would be nice to have one to compare.
*
unfortunately there was only one time i played a prostaff 85.... i had noooo idea if it was a china or st. vincy made one... i just remember it's explosions on the serves and it was damn tiring to hit with...

but nothing beats my experience playing with the wilson t2000... that thing was such a beast to hit.... so deadly when hit at the centre... the strings were sorta dead but i cannot imagine myself swinging with that racquet for even 30 mins through a regular set

unforunately all the lead tape that i found was the small wilson ones and not the long grey leads that are more flexible to apply on. those wilson ones come off too easily... tried asking both topper and ultimate sports.. tarak.

@tiangkim

yup. connors' wilson. my friend who has that t2000 still keeps it in very good condition... probably 8++ condition

I feel that TMF is actually playing very well seeing that he is not in his prime anymore.

... but can he win Wimbledon?

Bjorn Borg posted in TENNIS.com saying that he picks TMF but I feel that what he said before this was more important... he said that the only people who can win wimbledon are the top four players now.

I agree to that. In fact, if I were to rank them based on who I think would win to who would least likely win, it'll be 1-Nadal, 2-Djokovic, 3-TMF, 4-Murray.

No matter how we feel Nadal is NOT at home compared to Federer in Centre Court, he has shown by far that on his worst days - like how he went down 2-5 in the first set in RG, he can still manage to grind back to win it 7-5. I mean, this is no joke to be able to pummel down TMF in the grandest stage of clay-tennis. In fact, the last time he faced off with TMF in the finals, he has shown the quality of tennis (his net game has drastically improved) suitable to that of today's slower grass in Centre Court.

My Predictions: Fed-Nadal final, Nadal in 4 sets if he wins the first set. Nadal in 5 if Federer wins the first set.

If Federer were to win, he MUST win the first 2 sets. I don't see him digging enough motivation in him to battle a 5 setter or coming back from 2 sets down to win an epic 5.

Unfortunately.... cause I would love to see him win another Wimby

*
i think he did.... for the first 5 months, he did. in fact... i think he will. he's only lost one match thus far. no boo hoos from him for sure.

just that on wimbledon's centre court, TMF and nadal just can't be excluded from the picture

ya he sorta dominated the past half a year but he know is the real test for him ... wimbledon and us open ... hope he can grab the no.1 spot soon...
*
kev

i think the media has been quite unfair to the joker. i mean, his streak has been quite record breaking... it was like the moment he lost to federer, his hype just disappeared. immediately peoplewere reverting back to the TMF & Nadal bickering... i mean... like this WHOLE half-year he lost only 1 match man... that's like superb for any legend or player alive. but now, here anything about him? nope... still talks about "does fed still have what it takes to win wimby" or "will nadal take both rg and wimby again?".. where's the novak article?

QUOTE(praetorian @ Jun 20 2011, 02:48 PM)
Nadal has already lost the No:1 ranking....to win Wimbledon and the US Open.....AGAIN......very very hard, nigh impossible....if he does it.....my hats off to him.....I think he is in the lead by a mere 65 points......lol....
*
you make an excellent point. in fact, nadal always sorta phases out a bit at the end of the year... that's been an ongoing trend of his... but i would find it hard pressed to rule him out of any tournament these days. unless he claims his knees are bothering him again

true. in fact, once they started pulling out streak records... i cannot imagine the amount of pressure he had to break all those records.
