Hihi guys, help me critique my itinerary plan please? 5d4n in Tokyo:

Day1 (arrive narita 6.45, reach hotel 8.00):
Shinjuku, Meiji Shrine, Harajuku, Shibuya
Day2
Tsujiki Fish Market, Nihonbashi, Ginza, Tokyo Dome City, Imperial Palace East Gardens, Akihabara
Day3
Ameyoko, Sensoji Temple, Asakusa, Sengakuji Temple, Shinagawa, Tokyo Tower, Roppongi, Ikebukuro
Day4
Disneyland or Disneysea (which one better?)
Day5:
Can't really do anything cos 1:30pm flight so have to leave quite early

Too packed/Don't make sense cos things all over the place? I stay at a hotel in Toshima. Also ... feel like going to just one temple OK liao, which one to choose?

I feel that Disneysea is so much more interesting than Disneyland. Why don't you visit both? I did not regret one bit that i actually visited both!

Time limit I think ... I don't think you can do both in one day right? If two days for both parks, only 2 days left to explore the rest of the city leh.

QUOTE(RegentCid @ Aug 21 2011, 08:45 PM)
Do you really want to go Japan most highest class most expensive area shopping with your body full of heavy fish smell?

If you plan Day 1 is shopping...put all shopping places all in Day 1.

Good point, haha. Anyway Google tells me that access to the fish auction is now totally off limits to tourists for the time being (due to the earthquake & tsunami). is it still worth it to go at like 9am or so to look see look see and go omakase one of the sushi places there?

I've never been to Tsukiji auction itself (too early in the am) but I've been to the market itself a couple of times. I think it is still a good experience because it's a working market - very interesting to see fishmongers zip around at lightspeed on their one-man "scooters" and the variety of seafood available. You might even see the famous (don't touch) bluefin tunas - huge. Good for an hour of look-see I think.

okok thanks, will go there for breakfast/brunch too I think. google tells me to go Sushi Dai for the omakase but ... 1-2 hour queue hmmmmmmmmmm.

QUOTE(nasizwan @ Aug 22 2011, 10:23 AM)
Honestly speaking its REALLY packed. You will be rushing everywhere instead of enjoying the view

QUOTE(heterosapiens @ Aug 23 2011, 07:12 AM)
Day 3 - Super Packed Day - If you walk fast and do minimal stops, then you would probably have 30 minutes - 1 hour for each places.

Time your itinerary as it will help because some places closes early and opens late. Check their closing day as well.
Overall, I would say from your itinerary, it is a 'touch and go' to most of the attractions in Tokyo. It is very suitable for first timer in Tokyo/Japan. It will make you want to go there again, and spent 1-3 days each in Akihabara, Shibuya/Harajuku, and Shinjuku.

OKOK, thanks. We're planning this itinerary as a guide, so if it turns out when we're there that it is too packed we might just cut out a few stops and spend more time at the others.

How recent does the bank statement need to be? I read takes only bout 3 days to get the visa so i'm travelling in November, can wait till then on apply early and keep. Does the visa hv a 'use by' date?

My single-entry visa had a 3-month validity.

[edit] So anyway I went to Tsukiji fish market - twice! Once for Sushi Dai and once for Daiwa Sushi. Frickin' awesome! Totally worth the 1.5-hour queue.

We really should merge both Japan threads. End up people (myself included) double post in both threads cos dunno which one to post in.

@Riggo I did some research on this before going on my holiday. Technically M'sians don't need visa to enter Japan for short holiday. But at the immigration, you will be taken to a room for interview/questioning. Here you need to have all your documents available to prove that you don't intend to overstay; if the authorities suspect anything they will deny you entry and you're on the next flight back to KL.

Best is to just apply visa lah, it's free and very efficient one. Go there, drop off documents, come back 3 days later to pick up - done! Got nice visa sticker in your passport also.

i wanna to go Tokyo for 8 days... my budget... Rm 5k. enough for flight+ acco+ food+ etc???

Based on my very limited experience, should budget around rm400 per day for food/transport/attractions, not including shopping.

I heard it is better to exchange currency in Japan rather in Malaysia

No no no no 100 times no. Do you know how Malaysia every shopping mall also at least got one money changer? Japan is not like that. Money changer is damn hard to find and if you do find it the rates are terrible.

Exchange everything you need here - Mid Valley's rates are good. If in Japan you run out of money then find a seven eleven and withdraw from their 7-bank ATMs (normal ATM won't read your cirrus/mastercard ATM card).

Thanks for the input given, here is another thing, i have this maybank visa debit card, can i use it there ? Coz i have used that card for most online shopping ..It would b very convenient if it can b used there xD.thanks again !

Bear in mind that electronic FX using debit/credit card can be quite brutal on the rates. Just FYI, last month I withdrew 20,000yen from local MY ATM @ 24.82 equals RM805.77 - that day's actual closing rate was 25.66, so I rugi almost 3.5% spread.

Any one has any experience or knowledge to share?

Should be no problems. The visa on your passport tells the immigration officer in Japan that the embassy/consulate/whatever in your home country has already done all the necessary pre-screening and is satisfied that you don't pose an immigration risk.

Hi guys, I'm going to visit Kyoto and roaming charges can be a B***H.

try check with your current phone supplier whether they have roaming packages? having mobile internet on a smartphone while overseas is quite awesome. you can look up train/transport/transit directions on the fly, etc etc. my singtel line got unlimited data roaming in japan for $15 a day.

Does 2000 yen per day enough for food expenses that is included breakfast, lunch, dinner example how much does a bento cost at those convenience store?

Enough. With that budget you also can eat at makan places/restaurants actually. e.g. Ramen can start from 500-600Yen, so 3 meals = within your budget.

Tokyo busses seem hell to figure out though. Only online reference seem to be wikipedia, and god knows if that's updated.

Screw buses IMO, coverage probably sucks and when I was in Tokyo I hardly ever saw any of them. But there are 100+ subway/train lines and 800+ stations so I'd imagine you should be able to get pretty much anywhere just by train and a little walking.

Hi, I will be going to japan next feb for the first time. I was wondering do the visa application is necessary? I see some webpage say malaysian no need visa, while of coz most of the webpage say u need to apply visa. Thank you

Strictly speaking, no need. But you need to bring all your documents with you, then at the immigration in Japan you will be pulled aside to an interview room where an officer will interview you, go through your documents, and can easily decide not to grant you an entry permit.

Actually you do need a visa if traveling on a M'sian passport. The initial arbiter is the airline - which won't allow you to board otherwise.

Well, I was just going on what some other forumer posted recently where he forgot to apply for a visa and had to be interrogated at the Japan side immigration.

Another thing is, I am thinking of using credit card most of the time with hope the exchange rate will be cheaper than change money at money changer.

Impossible. not only for Japan but for practically everywhere you go, visa/mastercard & the bank will screw you on the credit card FX.

Give you one example the other day my colleague bought something about RM5,0000 in MY using SG credit card card, the effective rate he got was about 2.35. Reuters rate is hovering around 2.42-2.43!
