Hey,

I really need advice on this.
I've been looking for halal / vegetarian restaurants or any place
to get cooked halal / vegetarian foods around Japan, anyone
having any information on this or any Muslims can share your experience?

The places my group will be going:-
1. Akihabara
2. Soka-City, Saitama
3. Nearby Shin-Osaka
4. Shinkansen Nozomi, Tokyo-Osaka (Any halal options?)

Will the vegetarian food in Japan be suitable for Muslims?
Any advice for Muslims on the meals in Japan?

Thanks.

I will be going to Japan on mid Nov 2012..and having a self guided trip..
Can some Sifu help to answer my questions:

1. I'm a student and for applying the visa, how should I write the self explanatory letter? Any samples?

2. If Im staying at a couch-surfer home, how should I provide the details in the Japan itinerary (accommodation column)?
- I will be stay in hotel for 3 nights and couchsurfing for 4 nights.
Can I just write the hotel which I stay in the whole accommodation column. Or just provide the couchsurfer details?

3. Should I photocopy my IC or Birth cert? or both?

4. The itinerary not necessary to be provide in too details right?
*
1. Who will be funding for your trip. That's your main point.
They just need to verify that you've money to cover for yourself in the trip.
Say also that you'll be leaving when and coming back Malaysia when.
If your dad is funding you, better to provide fathers' bank acc statement and his employment cert
to strengthen your case.

2. Write details for all nights. Including the couch-surfer home.

3. IC / Birth cert should not be necessary

4. The form can be downloaded from the Japan Embassy site. Just fill in
the relevant details only. E.g Day 1 you go 5 places in Osaka, just write e.g "Visiting Osaka".

Hope it helps.

1. Actually I won a trip to Japan from TLC discovery. The organizer will cover my expenses up to 4days only, the rest I will need to pay myself. BTW I believe my saving is more than sufficient to cover the whole trip. So should it be mentioned in my letter too?

2. OK..noted.

3. When should I go apply the visa if my trip is on mid nov?
*
1. Yes, do mention that TLC Discovery will cover all your expenses. Maybe you can ask TLC to help prepare
a letter to the Japan embassy stating that they will cover all your expenses, signed by them etc. You can also
attach your bank statement, showing you got enough. Thing is how much is enough is not for us to say.

3. Nov, you can try applying Mid of September. The usual visa is valid for 3 months.
but you must have your visa 2 weeks before the actual trip.

Hope this helps.

I can only answer the 1st place as i never been to osaka yet. There's turkey restaurant (if i'm not mistaken) name's siddique restaurant in akihabara.
You don;t have to worry about food in Japan. There're a lot of halal food to eat here especially in turkish restaurant, indian restaurant (most indian restaurant served halal food) or you can even eat in japanese restaurant. Just order other than beef la, it's ok. If curious, you can ask either they put alcohol in it, that's enough.

*There are Malaysian restaurant here in Japan. I only know in ikebukuro & tokyo. The restaurant's name is Malay-chan.

Ultima, best bet is vegetarian shop. In my experience, Turkish restaurant/shop u need to check properly cos not all Turkish are Muslim. Some Turkish kebab sourced their meat from non halal source.

There are some Indian Muslim shop in ikebukuro.
Or there should be halal shop near any of the mosques

Last time got someone posted his blog where he went to Japan n had all vegetarian meal.

Hey, where's tanoshii when ppl need him? He should know better cos it was his playground smile.gif

Thanks for the input guys!
Actually the trip was completed recently,
We did find turkish restaurants but as keii-kun said,
doubted on the halal-ness of their food. I'm not Muslim but the people I came with are. In the
end they just had Malaysian self-made tuna / sardine sandwiches and fruits for the duration of
the trip.

But maybe I should go looking for tanoshii's posts for future references.
It'll be easier for Muslims and also vegetarians.
