well...in terms of built...is it any good does it feel solid? any ram problems? restarts? any problem with it? i wanna make sure since my last decision to buy a samsung wave was a very2 bad one...
*
Build quality is actually nice. The back cover is like "matte" style. Doesn't feel that cheap for me. Doesn't even look like it's made by Huawei. My friends all asked me what phone. What type of Samsung/HTC. Lol.

RAM problems? - never encountered RAM problems though since the system manages the tasks quite good. In other words, the interface is quite smooth. Will definitely feel better if you flash it to custom ROM. More performance improvements smile.gif

Restarts? - none here actually unless the custom ROM is a bit buggy.

The phone is stable and the processor can be overclocked to 1.5Ghz and still, stable. Doesn't even feel that hot but of course, battery drain is there.

For gaming, Gameloft HD games is playable for me.

how about wifi problem, read about it. Is it easy to solve?
*
Wifi problem? None here too. Lol. Just make sure to turn "Wifi Sleep Policy" to Never.

Not sure about other's Wifi problem, I do read about Wifi signal drops etc, but I never encountered one. Maybe due to the ROM they flashed or maybe a bad wifi chipset (which can happen to any phone).

what do you mean by the ROM being a bit buggy..?
*
Custom ROM sometimes have some problem. Example is a ROM called MIUI.

Known Bugs
Camera may not work correctly. Blue tint and/or upside down image is common.
No hardware video acceleration
No Wifi Hotspot
No haptic feedback on touch keys.
Notification LED will stay solid and not blink. Save power by disabling led notifications. (fixed with patch below)
Buzzing noise in earpiece during phone calls (fixed with patch below)

That's what "buggy" means. A little problem with the rom. But of course, the next release, some of them will be fixed. It's a custom ROM, that's why there will be some problem. Not quite "perfect".

if not mistaken, someone complain about wifi signal drop when connect to wap encrypted wifi..
*
Yep, read about that too. But other users doesn't have any problem connecting to WPA encrypted network too. If the person can't connect their phone to a WPA network, doesn't mean the phone got some problem while other person can. There's some possibilities actually, from the wireless router to a bad wifi chipset. smile.gif

But for your info, I don't have any problem connecting by using MAC address and WPA/WPA2 network.

I'm interested to try custom ROM too after I buy x5. But as a newbie, it's quite hard to decide which rom is most stable and fast and battery saving. I think experienced user should guide us on the best custom ROM to start with.
*
Yeah, you should flash to a custom ROM, better, feels more solid and stable and good performance. Overclockable too smile.gif

If you ask me, I would recommend you FLB B137 Custom ROM smile.gif

No worries about guiding, once you have your phone, just ask here. Definitely one of us will help you with it.

I need ROM recommendations ><

Now that I've got my 8GB card, memory isnt a problem

*
Haha. Congrats bro on your new card rclxms.gif

Anyways,

FLB B137 ROM
- smooth.
- feels more stable and more solid.
- scores quite good on benchmark.
- no bugs encountered.

void.
- scores high in benchmark. (afaik, highest)
- quite stable.

x - sometimes feels a bit laggy/sluggish. (on the #draco and also new kernel for it)
x - sometimes, you can't complete AnTuTu benchmark process. will reboot. (new kernel)

That's what I encountered and what I feel about those two ROM. Maybe other users doesn't encounter any problem smile.gif

Need to have ClockworkMod Recovery v4.0.0.5 installed first. Then just flash like normal smile.gif

That's all I do though. Haha.

Hmm, I do have CWM installed.

Now is to slowly find my way around.

Wait, SMS and contacts need to back up as well, right?

Then what about the apps and games?

rclxub.gif
*
You can keep them by not selecting "Wipe data" in CWM. But, to ensure best performance, it's better to wipe it all and install it fresh smile.gif

I think you can use Titanium Backup to backup all your apps etc. Not quite sure how to use it though, cause I usually just install the ROM fresh.. So, no chance of using Titanium Backup etc.

I think it's just the same as backing up in ClockworkMod Recovery. If me, I won't run nandroid backup. That's me though. If you want, you could try, won't hurt.

B137 come with 800mhz?
*
Can you move the slider on SetCPU app? If you can move, that means you're on FLB B137 ROM. I can't recall wether it's on 800mhz when I first flashed it.

Edit: Or, got to your Settings -> About phone.

Build number should be:

FLB Custom ROM for the U8800 r3

Since some of us (including me) still need convincing from the forum users to buy X5. Let me share my doubts and 'cons' after reading X5 related forum for whole day. If the doubts are cleared, I think I'll be convinced.

(Don't quite understand what it meant)

2) Is the screen easily scratched? Does it come with Gorilla glass?

3)Wifi drop problem (already discussed earlier post)

4) Video recording jerky 720p but 17fps only, not the usual 30fps. (this limitation doesn't bother me)

5) Third party headphone may not work well on X5

6) read somewhere that app2sd doesn't work on certain ROM. This bother me because I plan to install huge collection of dictionaries which takes up lots of space.

7) can't think of any ....
*
1 - not sure what that means. lol

2 - This unit does not come with Gorilla glass, so better get screen protector. That's for sure. (only costs RM18 or lower)

3 - discussed already.

4 - not sure about video recording since I rarely use it. (never even use it before)

5 - This one, yes, there's some problem. But I think it depends on the headphone itself. For me, I tested it with my AKG Q350 and it doesn't work well. But that's due to the fact that on the AKG box itself, it says "Compatible with iPod, iPhone, iPad and Blackberry.

6 - You can use App 2 SD app from the market to move some apps to the sd card. Bear in mind, sometimes, the app itself doesn't support app2sd smile.gif

Not sure about that one. Haha. Maybe I'll just get a new earphone with mic without saying 'compatible with ipod/iphone/ipad/blackberry' thingy.

Quite sad actually the earphone doesn't work with the phone. Lol.

Em, don't quite understand your post. Haha. Do you mean, you can't choose 'reboot system now' on CWM after you install the zip?

Is there any custom ROM/ applications that allow an option to choose installation destination?
*
By using an app called 'App 2 SD' from the market, you can move some of the movable apps to the SD Card. Some app can't be moved to the SD Card. Same goes for games, some of them can be moved, some can't. This is also due to the fact that the application doesn't even support app2sd (move from phone to sd card).

Quote from Geno.kolar of MoDaCo

"There is app2sd function build-in in Froyo (there are a lot of problems)"

After install the zip file.
We should be able to get back to the Main Menu to perform System Reboot.
Which I couldn't manage to get back to Main Menu but have to pull out the battery in order to restart.

Kind of weird sweat.gif

Oh. Haha. Did you press the "back" button on your phone. Which is the bottom left side of your phone (arrow). Hehe.

Not sure about your problem though if you can't go back using the "back" button. But hey, you flashed it successfully! rclxms.gif

I think it's not a pro version, that's why need to approve one by one. Haha. If you have completed everything, have the time and tested every apps, tell me if there's any problem ya. Might be handy in the future if there's no problem.
